I talked to Mike Huckabee this morning, the former governor of Arkansas and would be Republican presidential nominee.
Instead of asking him the standard, what does McCain need to do to win question, I said if we wake up in a week and McCain has won, what will be the biggest reason.
Joe the plumber, he said.
Joe has given the McCain campaign a rallying cry against taxes.
And if Obama wins, organization.
He said he's never seen anything like it.
He said even in his home state of Arkansas. Where there is no particularly hot contest, early voting is setting records.
And most of the early voters have been democrats.
Then I asked, when you were campaigning, what was the one thing you learned from would-be voters that will affect the outcome of the election.
Huckabee said, people are tired of business as usual in Washington.
They want their voices to be heard.
Conclusion, whoever best embodies that idea, will win.
