CBS Evening News Where They Stand The CBS Evening News provides an in-depth look at the issues facing the 44th president.
"I will not be a perfect president," Obama said in the commercial. "But I can promise you this - I will always tell you what I think and where I stand."
Aides described the unusual ad as a final summation of Obama's campaign. They put the total cost at roughly $4 million, enough to show it simultaneously on CBS, NBC and Fox. It also was running on BET, Univision, MSNBC and TV One.
In the spot, Obama asked voters to "choose hope over fear and unity over division" in Tuesday's election. Republican John McCain derided the event as a "gauzy, feel-good commercial" paid for with broken promises.
Across 30 minutes, the ad blended views of Obama speaking in a setting that resembled the Oval Office, at the Democratic National Convention and elsewhere. It also included scenes of Americans discussing their economic and health care troubles and testimonials to the Democratic presidential candidate by politicians and business executives.
“Ronald Reagan had ‘morning in America,’ but this 30-minute infomercial had the feel of ‘mid-morning in America,’ said CBSNews.com senior political editor Vaughn Ververs. “Obama’s message of change and hope is a powerful one and the primary reason he is clear front-runner in this election. As the examples his campaign chose to highlight in their made-for-Hollywood ad illustrated, however, the message runs up against a harsh reality. It will be up to voters to decide whether he can deliver on the promises."
The ad showed Obama's wife, Michelle, and his two daughters as well as past photos of his black father from Kenya and white mother from Kansas.
The program ended with a live transmission of Obama speaking at a campaign rally in Florida, one of several states where Obama is trying to capture traditionally Republican territory.
"we will win this election," he promised. "The time for change has come."
Without the money to match the commercial, McCain sniped at the man and the moment.
"He's got a few things he wants to sell you: He's offering government-run health care ... an energy plan guaranteed to work without drilling ... and an automatic wealth spreader that folds neatly and fits under any bed," McCain said during a campaign stop in Florida.
McCain also criticized Obama for having signed a pledge to accept federal funds for the fall campaign and then breaking his word.
By opting out of the public financing, Obama was free to raise unheard of millions for the final weeks of the race, and afford costly events such as the television commercial.
After months of campaigning, Obama offered no new proposals in the ad. Instead, he stressed his plan to offer tax cuts to the middle class, "restore the long-term health of our economy and our middle class."
Obama said the nation's neglected problems predate President Bush, but that the economic crisis that erupted a few weeks ago was a "final verdict on eight years of failed policies."
Earlier, taping an appearance on the Daily Show for later in the evening, Obama said he had to reassure one of his daughters that the commercial would not pre-empt all programming.Read Wyatt Andrews' Reality Check On Obama's Campaign Pledges
"I was describing this to Michelle and my daughters, and Malia, who's 10, said, 'Hold up a second. Are you saying that my programs are going to be interrupted?' I said, 'No, we didn't buy on Disney.' So she was relieved."

The Berg lawsuit was dismissed earlier this week and I highly doubt that the SCOTUS will take it on appeal because they are intelligent enough to understand that Obama has already been vetted by the appropriate agencies.
Secondly, your assertion that Obama has not provided a legitimate copy of his birth certificate has been shown to be false.

The middle class is the backbone of this country and its economy. Under McCain the county could turn into a 3rd world nation where the super rich call all the shots and the rest of us are left dirt poor. That''s not the America we want to envision.
Giving tax breaks to the wealthy in hopes it''ll TRICKle down has not and will never work because of excessive human greed. And giving tax breaks to corporations that outsource jobs to foreign countries is so absolutely insane!! The change is coming Nov. 4. Finally.
Sorry.. no breaks...
Become inform and use correct verbiage...
Political correctness is a term applied to language, ideas, policies, or behavior seen as seeking to minimize offense to gender, racial, cultural, disabled, aged or other identity groups."
Is your point to offend anyone? I doubt it...
You are just trying to state an opinion..
There have been many "Law suits" that were brought about for children with disabilities. (Most of them happened in California).
We need to give Obama a chance to show us what he can do.
Or go to youtube and search "endangered species - whirlpool"
And people should lay off Ms Palin. She has valid points, and peer pressure/media has weight too. Especially when there''s far more of it and when people who wait to pull down their zipper are deemed "unevolved" or other insults.

"Fair"? That contradicts your other posts, but I already digress.
We''re losing our factories to other countries, and QUALITY is NOT the reason - too many news articles can''t be wrong. It''s because the other countries do it cheaper, and resort to slave or other unethical forms of labor.

Interesting tv commercial from, oh, 1978... Companies paid their workers viable wages, which in turn kept workers happy and more productive - AND turning out quality goods.

I agree with your lofty sentiments except it seems to me that Obama has sparked class warfare instead of thoughtfulness and diplomacy. Pointing fingers at "the rich" and declaring gifts for "the middle class". While he does that, he hurts the very factories that have any hope of restoring our leadership. He tells car makers he wants more efficient cars but then he plans to tax their efforts (Taxes Toyota, Samsung, etc doesnt pay). He implies I am not patriotic if I dont want to pay more taxes for give away programs.
My sister is a welfare mom, teaching her able bodied, 30 year old son to be the same. Menawhile, I am raiding my 401 K to pay nursing home costs for our mother. Dont tell me about spreading the wealth because its patriotic. Stop the class warfare and help us all to return to the hard working principles that made us great.

You are right. But dont place the emphasis on green, or safe, or even fair. Make those things just common practice. We need to make our people proud of our factories output, quality and quantity, instead of mad that "the boss" gets paid too much. We need to make it a matter of pride and security to work again. But instead, we seem to be focused on how we divide the diminshing amounts we are getting. And we are calling names to the only people capable of helping us solve this mess. And our politicians are the worst.

You make very good points here. But its still the wrong way to help our country, even if Alaska does it. We need to build more, do more, LEAD. Not find a way to put more people on welfare and then increase the amount of its budget. Someone, somewhere has to work. Work is easier if we have safe, clean factories. Pay is higher if we outproduce our competition. When and how are we going to do that?
This whole "tax the rich" is a tempest in a teapot. I want to know how we are going to make more stuff and do more things. thats what wealth really is.

If you are still here. I have had interruptions too.
Americas problem is that foreighn competitors build more for less. We have to find a way to fix that, not bandaid by just spreading what we are able to get. I toured a factory in Japan that is 90+% robots. they didnt fire people, they built MORE PRODUCTS safer.
Our labor is already more expensive than theirs so we have to find a less laborious way to do things. We are good at that. But we dont do it anymore and our factories are becoming obsolete. Big corporations are careful to not build big espensive factories here anymore because its too risky. they build in other countries where the government actually helps with construction. So, the summary is:
1. American labor - high.
2. American factories - built by the coroporation, on coprorate money
3. American taxes - higher
The result is our factories are not being kept up to date and foreighers are taking our business. I have real world exapmples.
bamboozled by the change America slogan........and look around the world and America is a pretty *** good place to live. Vote for McCain to keep us secure,
steady and growing. Obama does not have the experience.
In fact Bill Clinton just said during the economic crisis Obama called and said" tell me what to do"
we need a president with experience and not a community organizer.
They won''t have to do anything because the majority of white Americans along with every other ethnic group is voting for Obama. Maybe we need to look out for the skinheads and Arayan Nation group this time.

Mike - don''''t you think Obama''''s education policy proposal tries to do just that???
I have heard the argument for yearson this. Again, common sense and a dose of reality are needed. Kids get to the 5 or 6 th grades today not knowing fundamental math facts...why? Answer....Because of this foolish idea that we damage them by telling them they are wrong. We just hand em off to the next grade. Whe ni was in school, if a kid could not master those skills, he/she stayed back. It may have been a bit embarassing, but it did not scar them for life.
It is way past time to admit this stupid idea failed. It is why this system is messed up, liberals cant admit this experiment went horribly wrong, and conservative dont want to the rock the boat. Bush did indeed screw up here by not funding the "no child Left Behind" correctly.
You cant teach someone something if your not going to let them learn by the natural process of failure and correction. It is not a sin to tell a 6 yr old that 6+3=8 is wrong. But that is the way its handled, then byt he time they get to the higher graeds, they a completely lost. But thats ok....their ego at 6 yrs old was not destroyed. They only feel totaly stupid at 12 & 13!

So why have not been outraged by ACORN...and this whole idea in OHio....Ohio is one of the major battle ground states....of course its outcome is going to be a huge factor in who wins this thing.
I am a firm beleiver that you should be required to prove your identity when you go to the polls. Picture ID with SS #. Idendity theft is so prevalent now, its insane to allow anyone to vote who cant be verified.
