(AP)  No $150,000 wardrobe malfunctions for Michelle Obama.

"Actually, this is a J. Crew ensemble," the wife of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama told comedian Jay Leno on Monday on his talk show. She wore a yellow sweater, skirt and blouse ensemble.

"You can get some good stuff online," she added.

Questioned by Leno, the potential first lady declined to criticize GOP vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin about revelations that the Republican National Committee spent $150,000 at Neiman Marcus and other high-end retailers on clothes and accessories for Palin and her family.

Obama said she and her husband have a policy of spending their own money on their clothes. But she said she wanted to be "empathetic."

"A V.P. pick, it's like being shot out of a cannon. All of a sudden you're at the center of attention, and you want to look good," said Michelle Obama, adding she has never met Palin. "You're living in your home, minding your business, and all of a sudden you're on the national stage and everyone's watching."

Leno asked about Barack Obama's ailing grandmother. Obama recently left the campaign trail to spend time in Hawaii with his grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who virtually raised him and is his main remaining family.

"She's doing OK, up and down. But we are just grateful that he took time off and went to see her," Michelle Obama said. She said her husband credited his grandmother, whom he calls "Toot," with teaching him strength.

She quoted him as saying: "'She's tough, she's been through a lot. She's still hanging on. If you wonder where I got my toughness, it's from Toot."'

She said neither of Obama's two young daughters is overly excited by the campaign.

Ten-year-old Malia's reaction to her father's plans to air a 30-minute paid advertisement on national TV Wednesday night?

"'You're going to be on all the TV? Are you going to interrupt my TV?"' her mother said Malia asked.

She said Barack Obama reassured his daughter that he hadn't bought time on the Disney Channel.

Are you kidding me?? Show us the proof that they buy their own clothes. Where''s the proof. Seems to me the messiah dresses in some real, real nice suits and shirts. If the tables were turned there would be a demand to see the receipts.
Besides, this whole issue is pure nonsense.
Let''s talk about the tap that the LA Times won''t release from 2005, let''s talk about the NPR interview from 2001, let''s talk about his answer to "joe the plummer" clearly stating he wants to "spread the wealth". Let''s talk about who got him into university. But no, the msm wants to keep this nonsense alive.

I am very disappointed at the ongoing conversation about clothes let''s get real people who really cares!!! I don''t care if she spends 10,000 on clothes it is her business just like the democats don''t seem to care if Obama spends millions on tv ads what is the difference??

They are both lawyers making good salaries. There''s no reason to expect they aren''t paying for their own clothes. And who really cares especially since Michelle Obama didn''t criticize her for taking the clothes. Talk about your crazy conspiracy theories if you want (hardly anyone is listening any more).

To Xlib and TexwLove; both of you need to get a grip! Barack doesn''t think he''s a Messiah, but obviously Xlib thinks he is! And as far as all of the other things the two of you bring up; it''s stupid! Barack isn''t bringing this nonsense up, it''s the media! You don''t want to be believe that he doesn''t have to have the DNC pay for his clothes. Your boy, McCain is the one that leaks this information! Neither of you want to talk about things that are important; you want to smear him! If you''re going to be mad, be mad at the Media! They''re the ones pulling this nonsense up! Some you folks are the dumbest people! Hopefully, if Barack wins, mayber Xlib and TexwLove will leave the country! So sad!!

I''m sure Cindy "I can''t smile any more because my face might crack" McCain can give her plenty of advice on Botox. Those lines are real and make her human and not plastic like Cindy, Sarah and Elizabeth.

And speaking of Elizabeth, who told Palin it was a good idea to take speech advice from that little Nazi no-nothing. There''s a reason they don''t let her talk on the view; they don''t want her to embarass herself any more. I am sure Fox has a talk show for her where she can say a whole lot of idiotic things and no one will notice becuase only idiots watch Fox.

Elizabeth is a lot more educated then Whoopi, Joy, and Sheeri on the view. Probably even Barabar. But the main reason your bashing her is because of her political views. But in my opinion her political views are what makes her smart. If you really listent to Elizabeth, you can see that she is talking from the heart and is fighting for the American People. All the others on the view just keep bashing republicans and dismiss any negative things that are said about Obama. It is kind of scary how Obama has brainwashed so many into believing he is the man for change. He is going to bring this country down and is going to make this country our founding fathers fought so hard to not be like.

I suspect Obama has had years to purchase clothing equal to that Palin has been able to ''rent'' (for lack of a better word). Of course, Michelle makes 4-5 times more than Sarah ever has, but we aren''t supposed to acknowledge that discrepency, right?

I guess redistribution of wealth doesn''t apply to the Obama''s...

Come on read the article. Michelle had a chance to make some snide remarks about Sarah and her $150K wardrobe, but she took the high road.

Unlike the other party which is calling names and doing character assassination.

Just like her husband, no stooping to the cess pool like others.

Ms. Obama has never taken the high road in her life. Remember she is "finally proud of her country". Wake up and smell the coffee...I don''''t particularly like being called "whitey". I am not a racist which is more than I can say Ms. Obama or her husband, who will not be The Commander in Chief of this great nation. They are running a campaign of hate and racism.

As was said it meant and for you slow of mind this is what she was talking about.

In years past it would never have been possible for a black man let alone half black and half white to run for Presidnet and that is what she is so proud of about this country. But for you biggets (no brains just mouth) you want to twist everything they say.

Hey guess what I am white and I am going to vote Obama, so are all three of my daughters for the first time in there lives. The oldest in 27 we live in Florida good luck wing nuts your day is ending.

That is one ugly, mean gas bag. There is no designer clothes in the world that will help her. She should continue shopping at Wal-Mart. That definitely is her speed. We will never, never see any beauty in that body of hers. How sickening trying to portray herself to the likes of Nancy Reagan or Jackie Kennedy. Those 2 first ladies were elegant in every respect something she will never be. Frankly, she is scary.

Posted by seriousinusa

Are you serious or just jealous? I think Michelle Obama will easily be one of the best looking first ladies we have ever had (other than Jackie O). I bet you that she looks better than you. Normally the first person that calls someone ugly on a posting site is probably hideous themself.

The big deal is who paid for it and who keeps pretending they are like the "average Joe" when they do that. Still waiting for someone to explain why Piper is shown carrying a over 1000.00 dollar grown up Louis Vuitton bag? Dress up on the tax payer''s dime?

Jackie was classy and beautiful just like Michelle is. Funny how many whites want to call Michelle names, while you''re running to the tanning salon trying to get darker, to the plastic surgeon trying to get fuller lips, hips, and breast. Could it be if you are a woman you are flat and pale, and if you are a man, you call Michelle names because your wife or girlfriend if you have either are flat and pale.

Remember the old adage that the person makes the clothes NOT the clothes make the person? That applies to people with character, they can make a rag look great--but for nasty little azzholes--it takes a lot of money to clean them up and give them the fake aura of class. In Sarah''s case, it took about 150K to do that.

We don''t care what Obama has a closet full of--we only care if we paid for whatever was in that closet--thinking we were giving to political campaigns and it went to dress someone who claimed to be just an ordinary, middle class person. THAT is what we care about. If you can complain about Edward''s 400.00 hair cut, others can complain about public money or donations for politics going to dress Palin and her family. Send her to the Gap or Banana Republic or hell, even Target--if she is not phony, she''d shop where the rest of Middle America shops.

If people can complain & criticize John Edward for his $400 haircut, why cant people complaint/criticise Palin for her $150,000 wardrobe ? Why the double standard and why should Palin be handled differently just because she is a woman ? Perhaps if she wasnt so bleeding hypocritical about her being a hockey mom and joe six-pack, noone would have picked on her $150,000. She should watch what comes spewing out of her toothy gap next time and not just say anything to woe the voters.

Michelle''s sweater is on sale on-line at J Crew for $89.99. I know the blouse, pin and possibly skirt also can be purchased at J Crew on-line. I love J Crew and recognized the sweater before Michelle even said where it came from.

I am voting for Obama, because I think the country has the best chance with him as our President. I have been watching him for several years and it is all good, folks. I think he is our best hope, give him a chance people-we need a Democrat in the White House because the economy is usually better with them in office. I have voted Republican in the past, but have soured on them. They have been demonizing their opponents for years - and they have been hypocritical themselves. Aren''t we all tired of that? The economy is the important thing now, lets be UNITED, not DIVIDED!

Exactly Michelle Obama is a lady. She did not say anything negative about Sarah and wardrobe, or Cindy''s Attacks on her husband. If the tables were turned, you know Sarah and Cindy would have been on attack mode. That is the way they are (republicans). Constantly attacking and not respecting family. See how this vicious attacks are causing other Americans to go after her husband. Can you imagine the tragedy that the Kennedy family went through. Now the hatred that Sarah spread is causing great concern for the Obama Family. I pray everyday for the safety of the Obama Family. Sarah shame on you for spreading such hatred in your rallies...
God Bless America and all Americans.

If Michelle Obama had spent $150,000 on clothes and $23,000 on her hair, we''d have been told she''s "elitist" and out of touch with ordinary Americans, particularly at a time of two wars, and major financial and economic crises.
