A look at Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's life and career

(AP)  An acclaimed celebrity makeup artist for Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin collected more money from John McCain's campaign than his foreign policy adviser.

Amy Strozzi, who works on the reality show "So You Think You Can Dance" and has been Palin's traveling stylist, was paid $22,800, according to campaign finance reports for the first two weeks in October. In contrast, McCain's foreign policy adviser, Randy Scheunemann, was paid $12,500, the report showed.

McCain's campaign said the payment covered a portion of her work in September and a portion of October. An earlier campaign finance report showed Strozzi was paid $13,200 for a portion of September.

In recent days, McCain and his running mate have tried to douse a furor over how their side spent their money. The Republican National Committee came under scrutiny after the party committee reported earlier this week that it had spent about $150,000 in September on wardrobe and cosmetics from high-end department stores like Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus after Palin joined the Republican ticket.

The purchases offered a stark contrast to Palin's image as a "hockey mom" who calls herself part of an average, middle-class American family.

"Those clothes are not my property. We had three days of using clothes that the RNC purchased," Palin told Fox News in an interview that aired Thursday night.

"If people knew how Todd and I and our kids shop so frugally. My favorite shop is a consignment shop in Anchorage, Alaska, called Out of the Closet. And my shoe store is called Shoe Fly in Juneau, Alaska. ... It's not, you know, Fifth Avenue-type of shopping."

In one shopping spree for Palin, the RNC spent $75,062 at Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis. It also spent $49,425 at Saks Fifth Avenue and $4,902 at Atelier, a stylish men's store, and paid $92 for a romper and matching hat with ears for her infant son, Trig, at Pacifier, a Minneapolis baby store.

There was no evidence of additional clothing purchases in the most recent reports.

The Obama campaign has said it paid for hair and makeup costs associated with interviews or events, but neither the campaign nor the Democratic National Committee has paid for clothing.

why is cbs so one sided? is it because you desprately want B. Hussain Obama to win? where is the story about Michelle Obama''s brucnh where she ate $110 an ounce cavier, $50 champagne, bought a new outfit for $1,500, where were the stories about Hillery Clinton $6000 pant suits?

I like how you ask why CBS is so one sided and then refer to Sen Obama as "B. Hussain Obama".

The kicker is the fact that you can''t spell correctly.

Why don''t you provide us with all the links for your "stories".

pghlady -

There HAVE BEEN stories published on the very topics you mention. The Michelle Obama story was put out - by that "raving liberal" Rupert Murdoch. oops, he got caught - turned out the story was a fabrication because the truth came out and trumped him. Michelle Obama never stayed at the hotel he claimed she was at. He actually issued a retraction, blaming their "sources" (would need to do no more than look over his shoulder at his own ***).

The Hillary pantsuit story is out there, and it is purportedly true. She apparently forks over the dough from her own personal funds for designer-made pantsuits (I''m not touching what she gets for her money). She never made an issue or pretended to be just like Joe the plumber or some such nonsense. To the contrary, she complained that the Bush tax cuts for wealthy people like her and Bill were unfair to ordinary middle Americans, so obviously she''s got the jack to spend however she pleases.

Now, be a good girl and go Google all these facts and you will see that they have been reported by CBS and other media at one time or another - even multiple times.

Sarah Palin spent more on her hairdo in two weeks than Joe SixPack''s wife makes in a year!

As plain looking as Palin''s hair is I can''t see why she can''t brush and blow dry her own hair her own *** self. Ya know what know what I''m talking about, by golly.

This just shows you how people (vendors, contractors, etc) ALWAYS take advantage of the government because they know everyone else does too. Your money is always safer in your hands, NOT THE GOVERNMENT"s. This is just an indication how the government run health care will work. Say no to rip-offs like this by rejecting Obama.

I''ll just bet.

If she truly was used to shopping "frugally", then she wouldn''t have just spent what she did.

There are some people that seemed confused about some things. First of all, the president DOES NOT spend the money. The president only PROPOSES and the congress has to approve it then write the check, then sends it back to the president for his signature. Therefore, without congress there would be no spending. Whatever you do, DO NOT vote for Obama. He is the WRONG choice for America for too many obvious and not so obvious reasons.

Keep hope all moderate progressives -- the conservative days are numbered. We can smell fear and defeat. A note on the most disgusting tactic to date: This young 20 year old woman they attempted to use to say that a black man mugged, molested and mutilated her by carving a "B" on her face. This was just the type of match McCain and Palin were looking for to ignite the race card once and for all. I''m sure they were giddy last night when their campaign staffers were pushing the tv news directors to play it all evening

This is atrocious. Outrageous selfish spending from the people who want to be our LEADERS. Do we want to vote for people who insult us so much? They have no inclination to make things better for us. They just want to indulge their narcissism. This is disgusting and insulting.

Dear Upto1947: Can all of us moderates send you a bill for our 401k plans and investments? Seems all of you said Bush was the next greatest thing since white bread. Again, you picked him in 2004 promising unity and compassion and a great America. And, now you want us to look at anything you say without disdain! Give you bigotry and racism a rest -- we''re not buying fear and loathing this time around. We at least vote for something instead of being against almost everything. We have hope and belief -- I''m not sure what you guys hold on to aside from hate.

By the way, as I peruse these boards, I notice one big, consistent difference between McCain supporters and Obama supporters. Obama supporters'' postings are usually intelligent and show independent thought and an awareness of the true state of things. McCain supporters are usually visceral and uninformed and show very little evidence of independent thinking...the sort of people who think it''s fulfilling to paint your body up and scream like an idiot at a football game. It''s a shame. But I''m beginning to feel like there is a huge element of stupid people in the world, and that bothers me a lot more than the pathetic nature of McCain and Palin. It''s scary....

George Bernard Shaw said that "Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve." Half this country deserves the horror that would be unleashed on this country by a President suffering from the onset of dementia and a Barbie doll VP that loves to shoot moose.

This is totally surrealistic and disturbing.

leaders are supposed to by example, so what does it tell you when they spend money like there is no shortage of it , and on the other hand tell us we have an economic crisis. Our government wastes money on everything they do.there is not one single department or arm of our government that is not mis-managed, completely. In a nut shell we face the problems we do because of two parties that have many mindless followers.hard to believe that after letting the economy go bust, voting a bailout that is ridiculous to think of, and giving that bailout to the very same people who''s greed has cost us dearly, without any oversight or repercussions, is simply insane to think. What even is more insane, party line voters will go to the polls and re elect the same congress knowing fully well that they will never represent the people.Wake up people congress has failed you miserably, no magic wand is going to change how those people in congress are.All they need is your vote , then they don''t need you till next election, nor will they represent you till then. But brainwashed idiots will pull the straight party ticket anyway and when the smoke clears and the party in power can''t and won''t come through with promises or solutions , things will fall apart. when they do don''t point the finger at the other party as usual, point them at your selves for voting them in. I will not waste my vote on either party as we cannot trust either one.The third parties look pretty good to me right now.

Hmmm looks like making Palin look good was more important than giving her good foreign policy training since Randy S their foreign policy advisor got LESS THAN the make up artist!

I dont think that was a strategic approach to spending!

What would she do if she had to face off with Putin?

First, the $22,500 for the hair stylist and the $150,000 for designer clothes for the Palins are the sole concern of the GOP donors. If I was a GOP donor, I would no longer donate to McCain.

But,during an interview with Brian Williams, McCain and Palin heavily criticized Obama for belonging to the elite class and they defined this class. By their own definition, Palin and McCain belong to the elite class. Talk about hypocrites.

I am appalled that during the most serious financial crisis of our time this newspaper feels clothing allowance is an important issue. I am a McCain contirbutor and I am glad he chose a typical American who cnat afford celebrity styling on her own budget. I am also glad he thinks Americas image is worth dressing up for. But more important, I am glad he wants to fix things in our country instead of petty backbiting like this article.

You really don''t your *** from a whole in the wall, do you? We''ve been over this, *******. The Obama campaign may''ve worked with ACORN, but you know, so has your boy McCain. In fact, he was the keynote speaker at their convention 2 yrs ago. That said, ACORN is not a corrupt organization. It HAS, on occassion, hired people to collect registrations who turned out to be too lazy to do the work. What they turned in, "my friend", is bogus paperwork. Bogus paperwork which, by law, is required to be turned into the election board even if it''s been flagged as "suspicious". The election board for the state has the ultimate say on who gets registered and who doesn''t, NOT ACORN. Now, I''m just a dumb MBA from Duke, but somehow I don''t picture any election board granting registrations to Mickey Mouse. If you''re really CHOOSE to perpetuate something you know not to be true, whatever. Be an ignoramous, but get this straight. This is bad paperwork, not bad voters. But hey, since you''re so incredibly dense and too stupid to listen, maybe YOU should stay home and not vote. We don''t need dumbasses like you choosing our next leader.
