(AP)  At least four students from a suburban St. Louis middle school face punishment for allegedly hitting Jewish classmates during what they called "Hit a Jew Day."

The incident happened last week at Parkway West Middle School in Chesterfield.

District officials said Thursday they believe that fewer than 10 children of the district's 35 Jewish students were struck.

District spokesman Paul Tandy said that in most cases, the students were hit on the back of their shoulders but one student was slapped in the face.

It began with an unofficial "Spirit Week" among sixth-graders that started harmlessly enough with a "Hug a Friend Day." Then there was "High Five Day."

Soon, though, the days moved from friendly to silly. Next there was "Hit a Tall Person Day" and, finally, "Hit a Jew Day."

District officials believe a handful of children were directly involved. Those who actually struck classmates could face suspension and required counseling, Tandy said. Others who weren't directly involved but taunted Jewish students or egged on classmates could face lesser penalties.

"There is a mix of sadness and outrage," Tandy said. "The concern is a lot of kids knew about it and they didn't take action or say anything."

Karen Aroesty, St. Louis regional director of the Anti-Defamation League, said this was more than a case of bullying. Officials from the group will meet Friday with district leaders to discuss the matter.

"District officials said Thursday they believe that fewer than 10 children of the district''s 35 Jewish students were struck"
------------------
What kind of apologistBullshit is this? Perhaps they should let the 25 "unaffected" Jewish students take Uzis to school. You know, not to seriously kill anyone, just to shoot them in the arms and legs.
With this kind ofCrap going on, how can you be surprised when a student starts shooting, which is almost always to defend themselves against bullying like this. The school administrators need to be fired, whether they knew, or were blind to it.

Ah, Missouri that bastion of "real" America, according to the neo-cons. When are the rest of us, the 60% plus going to tell the the 40% that THEY aren''t Americans and don''t have a clue as to what America is all about?

Round them up, use the GOP donor lists to start.

School officials should have realized something was up when they had "Sleep with your sister day".

Or is that considered normal for their neck of the woods?

These are the weird things sixth graders do.
However I don''t see any logic in the response either. By overlooking a "Slap a tall person day" that openly endorsed a "slap whoever day". I have to wonder if any of the Jews took part in slapping a tall person?
This is not about any sort of religion, governmental affiliation, ethic or other politically correct reason to protest. This is about silly kids and stupid adults.
On the other hand, as a tall person, I am offended that my youthful peers were allowed to be the focus of outrageous abuse and no one came whining about their rights. Forgive the kids. Go after the adults.

-Apparently Islam is being taught in this school. No secret that Islamic fundamentalism is creeping into our culture, yet liberals could care less.

They believe in pacifism, appeasement, instead.

My siblings and I were born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri; as were my children. We graduated from Parkway. We were not raised to treat others with prejudice, cruelty or disrespect. Common courtesy was expected and good behavior was the norm. Judging by the language, stereotyping and hatred being expressed in the comments I have read, it is no wonder mankind has fallen so far from grace.

Yeah, I''''m up for that one, only lets make it "shoot liberals who think that Obama can cure all ills with confiscatory taxation" days. I doubt I have enough ammo for it, but I''''m up for a try. They actually want to elect someone who hasn''''t given enough information about his past to pass a basic security check. Yet another President who is going to have to have to give his staff security clearances via executive privilege.Clinton was like that. Had to avoid the drug testing thing too or he would have lost half his cabinet and most of their staffers.

*** Well, maybe if you idiot republicans had a better candidate than amnesty mccain, maybe then I could vote republican. I refuse to vote for a guy that co-sponsored an amnesty bill with ted kennedy that would have given over 20 MILLION Illegals amnesty! Obama has lots of faults, but amnesty mccain has even more. I hate amnesty mccain... republicans,.. give us a candidate that DOES NOT SUPPORT AMNESTY!!

The Ideology Foundation of Evangelism Has always been :
To Provoke and Instigate : HATE of The JEW - and - HATE For The Jew

There is Nothing Christian about a : POLITICAL IDEOLOGY
That Disguises itself as a Religion

Even the famous (So Called) Christian Evangelical :
Pat Robertson said : "Ariel Sharon''s stroke was divine retribution"
(Wednesday, 11 January 2006 (BBC)

The is Nothing Christian about a (ideology) Religion that :
Teaches and Condones HATE - For any Race of People

Evangelicals have always been Hard Core Supporters of
The Republican NAZI Fascist Party Candidates
Despite Who They are ! !

They Call themselves Christians - Their Actions and Behavior
Say something different ! !

Excellent Example of the : CHRISTIAN RACIST Mentality of :

lastdance128: Pat Robertson said Sharon''s illness was Divine retribution because Sharon had done something against God''s will.

In intel circles, they said that America had given missiles secretly to Sharon to attack Iran. Instead, Sharon sold some (or all) to China. In response, American intel poisoned him. That''s the scuttlebutt.

From the article above:
"Those who actually struck classmates could face suspension and required counseling"

Suspension and counseling? Why are they being such pu.ssies? Do what the Israelis do and demolish their homes.
Better yet send a group of crazed Jewish settlers to take their homes and land.
That will teach them. I''m sure the rest of America will look on and understand they received the proper punishment. Right?

Counseling?

I don''t think they need counseling at all. Just suspend them for however long, and make them write a paper about WW2 and the Holocaust.

And write a 2nd paper on how to show some respect to other people...

Yup,,,that''ll learn''em....(Just a little humor on that last line)

the students should be suspended for one complete school year and required to do community service for basically a hate crime. the first teachers for any child is the parent or parents. hard to believe that after nazi germany that jews are still taunted, persecuted, especially here in the USA in the 21st century. but the nation treats all minorities, jews or not, in the same manner except for chinese who are more accepted for some reason.

Imagine the outrage if it would have been hitting blacks on that day. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would be calling for the deaths of those children who tapped a black person. After all, their "black messiah" is coming to power where all blacks and terrorists will reign supreme. (If you can''t detect the sarcasm, I''m sure you''ll let me know)

This is not newsworthy material. Hell, if it were hit a white kid day, it would all be in good fun. It would not have even been reported. Was any child hurt...No! But because it involved Jewish children...."Oh my God" !! Anti semitism !

I am really tired of all this feel sorry for Isreal/holocaust garbage. That was over 50 years ago and the Germans under Hitler committed those atrocities, not the Americans. However, The U.S. sends over $ 5 billion dollars a year to Isreal and we have been sending this money for over 30 years, for a total exceeding $ 150 Billion. What has Isreal ever done for the U.S.? I like Isreal and its people, but please lets not make someting out of nothing.

The money that we have sent to Isreal... has it ever been paid back ? Maybe our Government can help U.S. people for a change. It would be a nice thought.

A bunch of idiots writing here know nothing. I was a Jewish kid in the 1940s, and I was regularly kept out of things and places, had rocks and horse manure thrown at me (there were horses pulling delivery wagons in the city in those days). As for what has Israel done for America, you have to be a real dunce not to know, there is so much. You youngsters are SOoooo ignorant, you should be ashamed of your stupidity.

What is happening in the homes of these children?

Someone taught them to become hostile and hate people over a criteria based on religion.

Who is teaching these children they can disagree and still give respect?

It doesn''t seem the voices of respectful disagreement is heard in the lives of these children.

This has nothing to do with anti-Jewish attitude; it is simply school administration and some teachers let things go out of control. Fun things always have a way going out of control. Those adults should be reprimanded in public.

That''s OK then. As long as it isn''t over 1/3 of the Jewish students that got hit.

It''s a hate crime and the little ba*&^)rds should be prosecuted and the principal fired. But, child welfare advocates and the teacher''s union will step in and protect "their" rights.

Agreed. It doesn''t seem that the voices of respectful disagreement are heard very much ANYWHERE. Some of my best friends are "tall" and I''ve even had a few "tall" persons to my home for dinner. They''ve been very helpful in my life, reaching the higher shelves, changing light bulbs without having to unpack a ladder, telling me how the combover is working for me, etc. I think if these kids were to study the history of prejudice against "tall people" in this country and around the world, they would have a better appreciation for their trials and tribulations, for example, shin damage from cabinet doors, inability to wear shoes with laces, low hanging chandeliers and doorways measured for "short" people. We can no longer ostracize "tall people" in our schools to the basketball teams, to wide receiver positions and to the high jump. Goebbels was wrong; removing them from the sight of the rest of us is just not the way to go. Remember, Wilt Chamberlain was a "tall person" and Yo is a "tall person." So was "long tall Sally" and "Jones, long, lean, lanky Jones." Reach out: have a "tall person" to dinner, they can pass the meat plate to you without bothering the three people between you. Why would I want to slap such a helper in the face? Even if I could reach it.
