(AP)  Jewish settlers attacked a Palestinian photographer who was taking pictures of Palestinian farmers picking olives in the West Bank on Saturday.

The incident, filmed by AP Television News, shows four Jewish men passing through an orchard in the West Bank town of Hebron. They are then seen punching and kicking the photographer, Abed Hashlamoun of the EPA news agency. Hashlamoun said he was taking pictures of the men when he was attacked. One of the settlers snatched his camera but dropped it after a foreign human rights activist tried to retrieve it, he said.

The footage shows a settler punching a 53-year-old British woman in the face as she tries to snatch a camera from him.

Janet Benvie was one of dozens of foreign and Israeli activists who came to Hebron to shield local farmers from possible attack by settlers who frequently assault Palestinians during the fall olive harvest.

The harvest is crucial to the local economy, and a long-held tradition emphasizing the Palestinians' attachment to their land. Left-wing Israelis and pro-Palestinian foreigners often accompany the olive pickers to protect them.

The APTN footage shows Hashlamoun lobbing a rock at one of the settlers after he was assaulted.

Nobody was seriously injured in the scuffle. The footage shows Israeli soldiers quickly breaking up the brawl and allowing the youths to walk away.

The military faulted the Palestinians and their supporters for going out to harvest without coordinating with military officials first.

"The Palestinians are aware that there must be coordination before harvesting," the military said. "There was no coordination before they arrived ... something that constitutes a provocation."

As for the attack on the photographer, "the media must understand that they entered a closed military zone and that they undertake risks when they do so," the military said.

Police have launched an investigation into the actions of the Palestinians and their supporters and the local residents who attacked them, it added.

What are you suggesting? That right-wing Jews have reason to attack and kill people, that even the military supports it? That there''s an historical relationship somehow.

It is not surprising, Jesus was born a Jew and loved all peoples, the Jewish heirarchy killed him for that reason.

Thats right sweetie and thats why they have to be stronger and smarter then there enemies because they are outnumbered 500-1. By the way the USA only supported them after 1967 and the Six-Day War as they were flting French Mirages.

The truth of Israel - Palestinians cannot so much as harvest their OWN crops on their OWN without being attacked - and the military has no interest in catching the attackers. They just blame the Palestinians. This is what so many of our tax dollars go to support. It''s not right.

It is already well documented that the local Police and military turn a blind eye to this kind of Violence and often face no reprocusions for such abusive actions.

Israel has a perverted sense of Justice and I am not a Fan of Israel or their ways and do not frankly believe that they deserve Israel as a Jewish Nation. They would be slaughtered and destroyed if the USA did not step in and bolster them finantially and with weapons.

The Holy Land is not so Holy!

What a bunch of anti-semites you all are- shame on you.

First of all the Jews are not "settlers" in the land of Israel. The Jewish people children of Israel were given the land Israel by the Creator. Jews have lived in the land of Israel for thousands of years.

Second of all, I personally was in Chevron (i.e. "Hebron") in the year 2000 when I was a 20 year old girl. As an American Jew I volunteered two weeks to aid victims of terror as well as clean a Jewish cemetery that had been desecrated. I had a fire-bomb thrown at me and also was shot at by neighboring Arabs and saw the bullets hitting the ground several feet away from me. My friend was hit by shrapnel and needed medical assistance. In just those two weeks two Jewish men on two separate occasions were murdered in cold blood on their way home from work to Kiryat Arba in Chervon. I saw their blood on the streets. These were fathers of families. They were killed in cold blood just for being Jews. I was shot at just for being a Jew. What about baby Shalhevet shot at and murdered in Chevron in the arms of her mother. Did CBS report on any of this???

Innocent Jews are brutally attacked and murdered in Israel almost every day, unprovoked and in cold blood, just for being Jews and living in their land. Sederot is currently under attack, bombs raining on them daily causing people to loose limbs and lives, little children live there in constant fear-- yet this is what CBS chooses to report-- shame on you!!!!

So, an Arab that should be cleared, but hasn''t been cleared comes near you in any way shape or form - what are you supposed to do? Wait to see if you blow up or not?

In case you loving "christians" didn''t read the article, the Palestinians were on their own land. Oh, and Israelis were also present to prevent this abuse. Good for them. Right wing extremist, whether Islamic, Christian, or Jewish are a serious threat to peace.

I guess no one notices this part; "Israeli soldiers quickly breaking up the brawl and allowing the youths to walk away." And this is somehow the State of Israels doing?

This was a deliberate orchestrated event with left wing westerners and Palestinian press entering a military area with the goal of provoking the Israeli settlers and military. The photo show a photographer subdued, not attacked. Shame on CBS for publishing this ***. For you anti-Semitic posters, get a grip.

They should have dropped that Allah lover right in his tracks. There could have been (probably was) a bomb in that camara. And also the terrorist posing as olive pickers too.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Protesters attacked delegates, smashed...Members of the Connecticut delegation said they were attacked by protesters when they got off their bus near the Xcel Center, KMSP-TV reported. Delegate Rob Simmons told the station that a group of protesters came toward his delegation and tried to rip the credentials off their necks and sprayed them with a toxic substance that burned their eyes and stained their clothes.

One 80-year-old member of the delegation had to be treated for injuries, and several other delegates had to rinse their eyes and clothing, the station reported.

What an embarrassing shame for Israel. You''d think a nation with roots so deeply set in suffering and injustice would be above such a cruel and bigoted act.

These animals have no interest in pursuing peace with their neighbors. Not that you''ll see this on US TV. Anything that shows Israel in a bad light: BAD.
Anything that shows Palestinians in a bad light: GOOD.
To think that we give, what, 5 or 6 billion dollars a year to these people.

Wow! I can''t believe CBS News let this story get through. If Americans are to continue believing that all Palestians are crazed murderers, stories exposing Israeli provocations must not get through. Otherwise, it will be awkward when Obama and McCain trip over each other pandering to the AIPAC lobby.

It''s hard to be proud of America when we continue the genocide in the illegally occupied Palestinian territories.
