Timeline Marine Murder Key dates in the case of a murdered, pregnant Marine and the search for the fellow Marine wanted by the FBI.
Dick McNeil says 21-year-old Cpl. Cesar Laurean has filed an extradition appeal in a Mexican court.
In September, North Carolina officials said a Mexican court approved returning Laurean to the U.S.
Police arrested Laurean in April in Tacambaro, Mexico, after a three-month manhunt. He is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach of Vandalia, Ohio, who had accused him of rape.
She was eight months pregnant when she was killed.
Lauterbach's burned remains were found in January in the backyard of Laurean's home near Camp Lejeune. Both were stationed at the coastal North Carolina base where they served as clerks.
Born in Mexico, Laurean is a dual citizen, so an extradition fight could mean it may take up to two years to bring him back to the U.S.
Authorities in Mexico had issued an arrest warrant on the condition that Laurean not face the death penalty if he were tried in the United States, a condition to which the district attorney in charge of the case had to agree because it would otherwise be a treaty violation.
Onslow County D.A. Dewey Hudson told The Early Show in April that the toughest penalty Laurean could face is life in prison without parole.
Hudson said he has seen many cases where fugitives have fled to Mexico in order to avoid the death penalty if they are extradited.

- brdliky, you remind me of a monkey on a motorcycle with no doors, often personality disorders such as yours do not manifest themselves into such a degree but I would advise you to at least get a second opinion from another psychiatrist for blood work and chemical imbalances, that would be a much better place for you than where you are currently. Sorry, had to correct my spelling error, cat stepped on the keyboard.

- Personally I think, he should be charged in civilian court for the murder of Lauderback and baby... and stick to the deal made with the Mexian gov''t for extradition... THEN have the US Military court marshall and charge him with distruction of Gov''t. property and hang his butt! Cpl. Laurean is a disgrace the the Corps, and its core values! He took an oathe and broken them!!!

- What seems to be the problem. Mexico don''t seem to care how many of them come across the border to do there crime over here. We should hold the mexican government responsible for every one of there mexicans that commit a crime in the US and charge them a storage fee. Also send the losers back to Mexico and make them take care of them.

- Putting him in a Mexican prison for life would be a much stronger punishment and cost us a lot less.
Make a deal, the Mexicans agree to keep him in prison for life and we drop our request to bring him back to the USA. Life in a Mexican prison would be a death sentience ... - Reply to this comment

Women should stay out of the armed forces period

You need to get your head on straight. Nobody should ever rape anyone! The issue is not where the victim of rape was at the time, or what career path the victim has chosen. It has nothing to do with the armed forces. There are men at the mall, in bars, at college, and at church. Should women stay away from those places as well, because there are men around and they are just a bunch of pigs who rape women? Might I also point out that there are thousands of men who serve our country who act like the honorable men they are supposed to be. There are criminals everywhere, should all good citizens hide from them? No, women should serve our country if that is what they choose to do. - Reply to this comment
- Marine! Your lucky you ain''t from Texas. Here you''d be dragged across the Rio Grande legally or illegally and your Mexican *** would hang. Your a disgrace to the USMC.

- Women don''t belong in the armed forces to begin with. This is one of the reasons why it was banned for so long. My daughter was in the Air force and also was raped. She never told anyone until many years later. I know she is not alone. If the real truth were known rapes would be in the thousands. Men are pigs and can''t control themselves when the urge hits. The nearest woman then pays for his lust. Women should stay out of the armed forces period.

- Offer citizenship, employment and a home to the FIRST illegal that executes this waste of space. See what happens then. Video tape beheading him and post it on youtube to see justice served.
