Pelosi, Reid Urge Bush To Call G-8 Summit

(The Politico)  House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) called on President Bush Thursday night to organize a meeting of the G-8 to address the downturn in financial markets around the world.

"The American people and the world are looking to the United States for leadership," the two Democratic leaders wrote Bush on Thursday. "Although your planned meeting this weekend with G-7 finance ministers is a positive step, there is a sense of urgency that the United States take a leadership role in bringing together leaders of the largest economies to help avoid even more serious economic consequences."

In addition to the U.S, The Group of Eight includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United Kingdom.
