Section Weathering The Downturn In this economy, it's smart to save. CBS News shows you how.
Speaking to several thousand people in Indianapolis, Obama acknowledged public anxiety over the financial crisis in starker terms than usual.
Calling it "a moment of great uncertainty for America," he said, "It's harder to make the mortgage or fill up your gas tank." Some people fear losing their electricity because of unpaid bills, he said.
"But this isn't a time for fear or panic," Obama said. "This is a time for resolve and leadership. I know that we can steer ourselves out of this crisis."
Obama ridiculed his Republican opponent, John McCain, for recently saying "the fundamentals of our economy are strong." But in his 35-minute speech on a muddy harness-racing track, he made a similar argument.
"America still has the most talented, most productive workers of any country on Earth," he said. "We're still the home to innovation and technology, colleges and universities that are the envy of the world. Some of the biggest ideas in history have come from our small businesses and our research facilities."
Obama repeated his claims that McCain's proposals would cause many Americans to lose their employer-provided health insurance because the Republican would tax those benefits. He said the $5,000 tax credit McCain would give people would not be enough for them to buy private insurance, a claim that McCain disputes.
"The American people can't take four more years of John McCain's George Bush policies," Obama said to loud cheers.
Indiana is normally a solidly Republican state at the presidential level, but polls here show the contest to be close.

OBAMA will restore the inheritance tax. How does this affect you? Before the tax was repealed many families have lost businesses, farms and ranches, and homes that have been in their families for generations because they could not afford the inheritance tax. Those willing their assets to loved ones will not only lose them to these taxes....read on...

- Riiiiight....don''t panic. A quarter of a century ago, in the era of the Labour manifesto that was dubbed (by a member of the Labour shadow cabinet) "the longest suicide note in history", when one wanted to depict the absurdity of the view of the world advanced by Tony Benn and Michael Foot one simply had to say: "They want to nationalise the banks!" People fell about laughing.
Given the socialistic leanings of Obama, it is all considerably less funny. We are all socialists now. - Reply to this comment

Talking about Civil Rights & what we should rightfully expect from our Government
MLK knew all are created equal, even if he knew the legalities of the declaration when our Founding Fathers wrote it. But MLK was asking for what is inherent in America, not to remake America. Does BHO think "all are created equal" or that all should be "made equal", with lots of your tax dollars?
Does he think slowing the rise of the oceans is a promise HE can make real, or a realistic promise at all? This kind of grandiose rhetoric comes from the notion that the POTUS is the "Leader of the Free World". That notion gets the US in trouble & sets our political reps up for failure. The example of the tiny seed that ACORN sewed some time ago grew thru-out the financial world, & the resulting knot of far-too-deep roots & branches w/ extremely-low-lying fruit can only be pruned where needed & properly nourished where appropriate w/ the cooperation of many nations on this giant root-ball. It''s the same with many situations these days. Telling us, and the World, that our Pres is the "Leader of the Free World", gives the impression that the US acts & all is solved. It is also this kind of rhetoric that makes the people expect more than they really should from the Government.
We need people in DC that will make realistic promises & expect realistic effort from the people they represent. Something for nothing for all leads to nothing for all when it''s really needed.

Talking about his Dem nomination & the effect he will have on the planet
Barack Obama''s pals at A.C.O.R.N. had a plan to remake things in the housing market, a plan that grew into a mighty S.O.A.K. - Stock Option Asset Kill. (Look into BHO & ACORN, and the overlying, or "over-lieing", Cloward-Piven Strategy)
I think it is time y''all B.O.L.T.E.D. if you were thinking of voting Jackass (see Andrew Jackson & the origin of the Democrat Party logo, especially if you are Native American) this year, before that ridiculous party totally remakes MLKs Dream into BHOs Nightmare.
"...Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy...I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ''We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.''"

- I want to add that I am a 63 year old female who has worked hard all my life and an RN in ICU and Recovery. I am still working hard full time. I am a mother, grandmother and nurse. Please listen to an older lady. Obama is a great man. I read his book years ago--"Dreams of my Father" and I have been waiting for him--finally we have a chance to have a president we can really love, trust and respect---and be proud of. We can can the world''s trust again. Vot Obama and Biden.

- Indiana --you are my beloved home state. Obama and Joe are intelligent, honorable men who can lead us back to sanity, prosperity and peace. McCain is "just ok" and Palin is horrible. She is an extremist who tried to fire the librarian because she refused to be a part of book burning. I can go on and onabout her. She is just plain awful. She is not a honorable person and McCain is part of the very rich crowd who "don''t really want equality and democracy. He wants to continue to exploit us as he has always done. His Keating 5 involvment showed how easily he can show bad judgement and how quickly he can be bought. Maybe he has made some progress since he graduated low in his class and was wild as a young man---but we have a chance here---for a really class act---Obama and Biden. Obama is honorable, intelligent, disciplined, hard working. He has written books which give great detail about his life and philosophy. He is a great man who can lead us back to prosperity and peace.

- Don''t panic:
I think it is beyound that at this point. $85 Billion for AIG, $100 Billion plus for tax breaks that will only help the rich, $700 Billion for bailout for rich, $35 Billion for indy mac, I can''t remember how much else for the other banks.
But this in my count comes to $1 trillion plus dollars in the last couple of months. And the Republicans want more.
