More Bogus Obama Donors Surface

Donations Made Between July and Early August

With a record-breaking fundraising campaign, presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has declined publicly-financed funds for his general election campaign. Dean Reynolds reports.

  • Video Presidential Campaign Funds

Vaughn Ververs, Sr. Political Editor for CBSNews.com, discusses the 2008 presidential candidates, their fundraising, and what may hurt them at the polls.

  • Video Giuliani Talks Fundraising

Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani discusses a shake-up on his fundraising team at an event Wednesday in Bridgewater, N.J. He also says he won't accept contributions of $9.11.

(CBS)  CBS News Investigative Producer Laura Strickler wrote this story for CBSNews.com with additional reporting from Sarah Fitzpatrick and Ariel Bashi.

CBS News has learned that two donors to the Obama campaign that gave a total of $7,722 appear to have made their contributions under fake names that look like they were written by a mouse running across a keyboard: Dahsudhu Hdusahfd of Df, Hawaii with the following employer CZXVC/ZXVZXV and Uadhshgu Hduadh listed as living in Dhff, Florida listed their employer as DASADA/SAFASF.

CBS News did not find any records of these last names, towns or employers anywhere else. Newsweek reported two questionable Obama donors over the weekend named “Doodad Pro” and “Good Will”.

Contributions from the two donors Hdusahfd and Hduadh were made on the same day starting on July 16, 2008. Federal Election Commission (FEC) records show the campaign began refunding the donations as early as August 6, 2008.

Despite numerous refunds from the Obama campaign, Hdusahfd still has a record of giving a total of $7500 to Obama which is well over the legal limit for the primary and general election of $4600. Hduadh gave $14,200 but the Obama campaign returned all but $222.00.

The Obama campaign says “out of an abundance of caution” all of these donations are in the process of being returned.

Obama spokesperson Bill Burton sent CBS News the following email statement, “We constantly review our donors for any issues and while no organization is completely protected from internet fraud, we will continue to review our fundraising procedures to ensure that we are taking every available step to root-out improper contributions.” Burton pointed to Harry Sargeant, one of McCain’s donors who is now the subject of a Congressional investigation. McCain returned $50,000 to Sargeant in early August.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) has asked the FEC to look into foreign donations to the Obama campaign. The FEC told CBS News they would not comment on the RNC’s complaint.

Other donors who gave over the legal limit to the Obama campaign contacted by CBS News said their money was refunded promptly by the campaign. Of those who spoke to CBS News, it seems their only mistake was that of enthusiasm.

Felicity Nitz, 60, of Brooklyn says she kept on clicking on Obama’s online fundraising appeals, “I just kept punching it when I got the emails,” she said, “I’m an insane supporter.”

Christian Skeem from Chicago says he got a letter back from the campaign with a check, “I couldn’t give them more than the limit because they kept sending it back, it wasn’t like they weren’t on the ball.” The reason he gave so much? “Cause I’m a fan,” he said.

I guess people really *are* stooping to character assassination because they can''t win if they just discuss the issues.

Obama,

You have been so dishonest with not only the campaign funds you received, but the type of person you have continually supported. You definitely do not have the American people''s interest at heart because if you did, you would not be rnning with the likes of the people Palin has brought to surface.

I believe all of the Media negativity about Palin has come back to haunt them. Palin is now turning on you. You can run Media, but you cannot hide.

Wow, a very interesting title to this story. It almost sounds like Obama is up to no good unti (here come those pesky details again), well, the author writes, "Federal Election Commission (FEC) records show the campaign began refunding the donations as early as August 6, 2008."

Nice try folks, come again. Repukes are running scared...this is fun to watch!

When campaigns receive money from questionable sources, it is the campaigns duty to review the donation and return the money if necessary. Appears that Obama''s campaign did what the law required. This story is basically meaningless. Appears McCain did the same thing...or did he?

ImpeachNOW. I take it you''re talking about Palin ("she" not "he" even though admittedly it''s sometimes difficult to tell the difference). You forgot scandal plagued and proven liar after all we know she lied repeatedly about earmarks, selling the plane on ebay, and the bridge to nowhere. She''s also under investigation for abuse of power. She also tried to ban books and fired the librarian a few months after she was told that it''s not permitted.

The RNC is diggin for Dirt and looking for Mud To Sling because the RNC knows that McLame & Palin are krappy canidates for President and V.P and also know that Bush fracked the Republican Party and Economy and War in Iraq.

RNC is just looking for Dirt and Mud and Drama to Start because they know the McLame Campaign is swirling down the toilet and its sucking McLame and McFailin right down with it.

Looks like Obama and Mccain have a similar problem:

The FEC sent a letter to Sen. John McCain''s campaign treasurer Sept. 30 demanding the candidate turn over more information about "contributions that appear to exceed the limits."

The letter is accompanied by a nine-page list showing scores of overages from McCain''s August campaign finance report, including nearly $13,000 from Texas rancher Ray R. Barrett Jr.; $9,200 from an Iraqi security consultant, H. Carter Andress; and $5,000 from Joseph F. Davolio, an executive at a major national liquor, beer and wine distributor.

Doubt the majority of American voters give a hoot about bogus donations to either ticket. It''s the economy everyone is most worried about, their investments, retirement funds, future retirement savings, housing values, credit, health care, social security. If you still have assets of 2 million plus, then you are probably riding out the economy much better than the majority of American voters. If I could shout a message into the ears of all the candidates, it would be "it''s the economy, stupid!"

GOPigs = desperation. With McCain wimping out of Michigan, the heart of working-class America, he can basically kiss the working class vote bye-bye. The middle-class is basically too intelligent to vote for McCain, so those votes are lost. That gives him like the top 2% rich guys left. McPain/Failin is fvcked.

Why doesn''t the RNC ask the SEC to look into bogus lending on the part of the Ceo''s of all those Wall Street banks. Now that would be a story worth printing. While they are at it, they could look into the corrupt politicians in Washington starting with the President and working their way down.

The fact that Fox News Network is taking the position of launching a series of all out assaults against senator Obama%u2019s character is a sad day in journalism. They should be ashamed of the immoral and unethical standards that their network displays on a continual basis. What they must be made to understand is that as citizens we rely upon networks for their fair and accurate reporting of events and we will not tolerate anything less, especially when its over the top or maybe I should say as far right as Fox News Network is. If your views are the same share this message with others. It is time to take a stand against Fox and look to other networks for fair and accurate news coverage.

With all the issues out there:
troops dying in a Iraq,
mortgage failures,
the banking industry failing,
the stock market dropping,
highest unemployment in 5 years,
national debt at 10 trillion,
half a trillion debt for 2009,
gas prices peaking over 4 bucks,
georgia invaded by russia,
WHAT MCCAIN WANTS TO TALK ABOUT is a tangential relationship with a professor on a charity board and a former fundraiser. McCain is erratic and desperate.
