Pelosi: Bid To Keep Blue Dogs Going "pretty Well"

By Glenn Thrush

(The Politico)  House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says the effort to keep pay-as-you-go Blue Dog Democrats in the "yes" column on the rescue plan is going well - and that she's optimistic about winning a re-vote on Friday.

"We want to see if we still have the 140 votes we had before and that seems to be going pretty well," she said during a press conference on the Hill."

The leadership has been worried that the Blue Dogs who rejected the tax extenders last week might reject the bailout passed by the Senate, which included the extenders as a sweetener to conservatives. Pelosi cautioned that she won't get a good read on her caucus until members read through the 400-page Senate version.

As for the re-vote, she said: "We're not going to take a bill to the floor that doesn't have the votes -- and I'm pretty confident this will go to the floor."
