Which Veeps Do Palin And Biden Admire?

CBS Evening News: Biden And Palin Answer Katie Couric's Vice-Presidential Questions

(CBS)  Sen. Joe Biden and Gov. Sarah Palin have put in some very long days preparing for their Thursday night debate. To give voters a better sense of who these candidates are, and where they stand on a number of issues, CBS News anchor Katie Couric asked Biden and Palin some "Vice Presidential Questions. In this installment, they discuss which vice president throughout history they admire.

Click here to read more of what the vice-presidential candidates had to say and see our series, "Presidential Questions."

Katie Couric: What previous vice president impresses you the most and why?

Sarah Palin: Oh my goodness. It would have to be, vice presidents, uh, just a candidate, and that would have to have been Geraldine Ferraro, of course. That's an easy one for me because she's, she's the one who first shattered part of that glass ceiling anyway in American politics. So it would be she as a candidate.

Couric: What about as an actual vice president if you had to name one?

Palin: My goodness. I think those who have gone on to the presidency, George Bush Sr., having, kind of learned the ropes in his position as VP and then movin' on up.

Joe Biden: Lyndon Johnson. For all the foibles he had as president, in people's minds, he really knew how the system worked.

He was able to be a significant facilitator of a new frontier, new policy. People in the Congress knew him, knew he knew a lot. And so I hope one of my roles as vice president will be as the person actually implementing Barack Obama's policy. You gotta get the Congress to go along with it. And it's presumptuous to say, but I know it pretty well. And I think I am fairly respected on both sides of the aisle.

My comment is about the interview with Gov. Palin and Joe Biden.
I don''t know how many people caught the answer Joe Biden gave Katie Curic but it was all out of stupidity and trying to make up a lie to please the idiots that are voting for him.
He told Katie Curic that Franklin Roosevelt got on television and talked to Americans about the crash of the stock market...Katie was so dumb that she didn''t even catch it, but the crash was in 1929, television had not been invented and Americans could not have been watching the president and Roosevelt was not the president at that time. Just goes to show that the media is making a fool of themselves about this man and Obama also. Not me, I have done the research on them all!!

Katie Couric, you did a super excellent job in bringing into light what the republican vp candidate has to offer. Ms. Palin succeeded in looking like a tough woman in your interview and on the debate w/ Senator Biden but she has not shown a lot of substance. I want to have a vice president that is highly intelligent and highly knowlegeable. Senator Biden came across very qualified for the vice presidency. He does evoke intelligence, knowledge, experience, natural composure (versus a lot of perceived artificiality on Ms Palin''s style), experience, empathy and so much more.
America, please be not fooled by form/appearances but rather concentrate on substance.

Now Katie Couric is biased and she berated Palin??? That is the lamest excuse for an unprepared vp candidate that I''ve ever heard. I''m tired of hearing that argument. I was going to vote for McCain--until I came to know a little more about Sarah Palin. For the life of me, I can''t believe he would put his own interests first by picking such an unqualified person to be vp. People: Quit making excuses for this terrible pick. It makes you look like a pathetic whiner.
- What Supreme Court decisions do you disagree with?
- What newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this to stay informed and to understand the world?
- Do you believe evolution should be taught as an accepted scientific principle or as one of several theories?

Those are "gotcha" questions? Gimme a break...

It seems pretty obvious to me that unless Palin has been drilled by her "trainers" on the exact subject matter and reply, she is unable to answer questions. She does have the ruthless political sense of a born politician, although I have to laugh (cynically) when she proclaims she is "not of Washington" -- oh, but she is soooo political. She paid attention during the GOPAC seminars she attended! She has a very narrow spectrum through which she sees the world.

Well, for Palin, it''s clear that it''s all about winning and ''movin on up''. She picked her favorite movies because they were about ''winning'', and her VP favorite was about GHB because he was VP, then got elected Pres. I''m sure that''s what she sees as her ambition as well. The VP debate cemented that idea. Even as VP she wants to find justification to expand the roll to have more control over the Senate. She''s power hungry and has a track record in Alaska of firing and otherwise forcing her competition out of public service in a ruthless way. Her sarcastic and snide comments about Biden and Obama shows that she''s not about reaching across the aisle or working with others of differing views. She''s about ruthless politics with little tolerance or respect for those that disagree with her regardless of party. The examples in Alaska of abuse of power and cronyism show exactly how she would act should she come to power in Washington.

I found Palin''s answer to "What previous Vice President impresses you?" very interesting. First she thows in Geraldine Ferarro because she almost made it and it''s obvious what Sarah is hoping for there. But then she really gets to the heart of it when she explains how Bush Sr. rises to become "The President"
I think she''s planing to run in 2012!
If I were Mc Cain I think I''d hire someone to taste my food.

Way to go, Sarah Palin!! I am now even more convinced that she and McCain are the candidates for me. On the other hand, shame on you, Katie Couric, for your biased handling of the candidates. No wonder CBS News has one of the lowest ratings of all the other newscasts.

No, perky Katie isn''t biased. We couldn''t possibly expect Couric to ask Biden about a vote that is the equivalent of voting against the invention of the wheel. But couldn''t she have come up with just one follow-up question for Biden on FDR''s magnificent handling of the 1929 stock market crash?

Here''s a question the public is dying to know: "If Obama wanted a historically delusional vice president, why not Lyndon LaRouche?" At least LaRouche didn''t vote against the Alaskan pipeline.

How can anyone accuse Couric of bias? She''s actually giving Palin a chance to redeem herself here. The airhead calls Ferraro her favorite VP, and instead of letting her hang, Couric gives her another shot at answering the question CORRECTLY....Sorry, Sarah, when you don''t have your notecards and teleprompters, your true abilities show...this isn''t a pageant, it''s REAL.

Katie, thank you for giving insight into 2 figures in American Politics who could someday have the power to make or break us as a country. You have been fair in your questions unfortunately one candidate proves to be more intelligent and the other is pop culture. We need leaders with a grasp of complex issues not one who relies on sound bites to get by. I''m an independent voter and Joe Biden is the one I want to be a heartbeat away from the presidency. His intelligence strenghthens the Obama/Biden Team.
Sarah I''m sorry, you are in over your head and it''s my family''s future at stake.
Independent Voter.

I think Couric has been deliberatley berating Palin as most of the extreme liberal media has been. I think our nation is in real trouble if the people don''t wake up and start doing their own research and stop depending on the media spin for the information. we have become a nation of lazy thinkers. I know we all have busy lives, but regardless of which party you belong to, you should not accept the media spin as fact without double checking the facts. The media has their own agenda and it is not in the best interests of this nation. The journalists have substituted insults for facts and have been extremely biased. I think we need to go back to the days when there was equal time granted on the airways for both sides of the issues, which we have not seen in this election year. The internet has opened up a whole new avenue of slash and burn politics which the journalists have shamefully exploited. This has given many cause to no longer respect the once revered journalists.
