Child Porn Sweep Nets 121 Arrests In Spain

(AP)  Spanish police arrested 121 people in the country's biggest-ever crackdown on child pornography, seizing discs containing millions of video and photo files shared by a network that distributed them in 75 countries, authorities said Wednesday.

Two of the suspects produced pornographic material themselves using members of their own families, police said in a statement. Those arrested came from all kinds of backgrounds, including pilots, salespeople, porters, taxi drivers and bank employees, it said.

The arrests were made last week and four of those in custody are minors, police said.

Brazilian police helped with the operation, which began in July 2007. A further 96 people have been named as suspects in the case, which involved raids on more than 250 homes across Spain.

Some of the videos and photographs that were seized featured extremely disturbing material, police said.

Most of the suspects are Spaniards, police said without naming the other nationalities. Police said the detainees used peer-to-peer, or P2P, servers to share at least three download sites.

Spanish authorities said they have arrested more than 1,200 people in connection with child pornography on the Internet in the last five years.

They should have an international law that states anyone caught with child porn should get the death penalty. To many freekin nuts in this world and we should weed them out to protect the kids.

Proisrael -- Sorry to disappoint you, but that old girlfriend of mine was 23 at the time I met her. I was 21.

And sorry lovesamerica, its not your choice who gets rights and who doesn''t. The Bill of Rights covers every American, no matter how much you despise them. So if you TRULY love America as I do, then you''ll see the wisdom in respecting others'' rights even if you wish they didn''t have them.

My brother is in prison in Nevada for the continued molestation of his step-daughter over a period of four years. It is doubtful that he will ever be out of prison, and I think he is right where he needs to be.

I''''''''m not an idiot, and I''''''''m not a pedophile sympathizer. However, I''''''''m also not a vigilante nut with a razor sharp black-n-white view of justice.

I loved that movie with Salley Field where she listened to the brutal rape of her daughter on the phone and couldn''t get to her and help her. But, in the end, she lurred the perp into her house and killed him. That''s what I would do.

Yes, children are traumatized and some are scarred for life by things that happened to them they couldn''t control. Some kids handle it and grow up well adjusted in spite of their troubled youth, others don''t. But no amount of punishment to the person who did it will change the outcome.

And while I agree a 14-year old doesn''t have the right to consent, I still see it as a lesser offense than the rape of a small child or infant. So the punishment should be different. And I also know that 14 year olds can be quite manipulative in getting what they want, so if they participate in *** with an adult, I feel they should be punished almost as harshly as the adult.

Oh, and these "studies" you refer to that says they WILL re-offend? Could you maybe cite a few of them so I can read them for myself? Maybe back up your claim with some facts. Here''s a fact for you. According to FBI statistics, 85% of all *** offenders released after serving their sentence DO NOT reoffend. And more importantly, more than 60% of *** offenders who assault children are either family member or close relative, not some stranger bogeyman. Feel free to browse the FBI''s data if you don''t believe me.

You rabid judgementalists are quick to want to scour the earth of pedophiles or even hebephiles (those who like teens), but not once do you think about the damage you''''''''d be doing to the lives of those around that person.

Does that make you that much better than them in the
end?

What about the rights of the children that these sickos have abused? The children are left with the scars and emotional problems the rest of their lives. A person has given up their rights once they have committed such a heinous crime and deserves whatever they get. I remember seeing on the internet a few years ago in an Arab country where a pedophile abused boys. They took and beat him publicly and then hung him by the neck on a huge crane high in the air for all the thousands gathered to see. That is what is wrong with our society, ever one gets a slap on the wrist or a little jail time and go right back to their sick deeds. If this happened to you or your child you might have a different opinion.

PROISRAEL - I''m not defending pedophiles ACTIONS, only their right to live peaceably after they''ve paid their debt to society, and as long as they don''t offend again.

I''ve dated a gal who was sexually abused by both her brother and father growing up. I''ve heard stories of toddlers and babies raped. And while I agree with you these are some of the most heinous crimes imaginable, it STILL doesn''t give you the right to promote vigilante justice.

But people don''t seem to see any difference between the person who rapes a baby, and the person who has consensual relations with a physically mature 14 year old. Isn''t there a huge difference there?

I think if the 14 year old consented, then both should be punished. If it was forcible, the adult should get life in prison or death. If the child is pre-puberty, automatic life in prison or death.

I''m not an idiot, and I''m not a pedophile sympathizer. However, I''m also not a vigilante nut with a razor sharp black-n-white view of justice. And I''ll stand up for a pedophile''s right to live their lives once they''ve paid their due just as I''d stand up for your right to live your life.

I apologize Maj. Tom, I didn''t mean to imply that you were joining the lynch-mob mentality running rampant in this thread.

And while the ACLU is fighting for NAMBLA''s right EXIST, they are NOT fighting for NAMBLA to be able to harm children in the process. I don''t know what the point would be of allowing them to exist while not harming children, its a philosophical argument rather than a practical one. I guess next we''ll have "Crack Smoker''s of America" club so they can gather and talk about smoking crack, even if they''re not actually doing it.

And to PROISRAEL - I guess your self-righteous cause is more important than the lives you''d ruin. You''re no better than the guy leading a lynch mob. And if you start with the pedophiles first, then what? Maybe ***? Lesbians? Smokers? Its a slippery slope when you start deeming others'' lives to be worthless. Pretty soon you''ll come up with reasons to get rid of any demographic you don''t like.

And as much as you don''t like it pedophiles have all the same rights you do, and its not your place to take those rights away from them. If they commit a crime, then they will lose their rights and freedoms as the courts dictate. And if those people are released and deemed not to be a threat to the community, then you should allow them to live their lives in peace as long as they''re not hurting you or someone else.

I find it odd that people are more forgiving of murderers released from jail than anyone labeled "*** offender".
