Florida Man Punches Shark To Save His Dog

Wounded Rat Terrier, Jake, Is Recovering After Attack, Seemingly Unfazed

(CBS/AP)  A dog is recovering after his owner dove in to the ocean to save his pet from a shark.

Greg LeNoir said he took his 14-pound rat terrier Jake for a daily swim at a marina Friday.

The five-foot shark suddenly surfaced and grabbed nearly the entire dog in its mouth.

LeNoir said he yelled, then balled up his fists and dove headfirst into the water. He hit the shark in the back and the creature finally let go of the dog.

Man and dog made it safely back to shore. The dog suffered bite wounds but was not critically injured.

CBS station WFOR in Miami reports that both dog and owner are avid swimmers, and it seems that the experience was more harrowing for LeNoir than for Jake. The two-year-old terrier seems utterly unfazed by the attack, WFOR reports.

Such an adorable little dog, and very brave owner. If it were not for that bravery that little dog would not be here. I hope he has gotten over his nightmares and is able to sleep peacefully again, bless his heart.

What a lucky little dog! I''d fight a shark for my two dogs, too. Loyalty and love between people and dogs goes both ways.

He is one very lucky dog. This was actualy his second rescue. He was originaly rescued by Marrvelous Pet Rescue, in Key Largo. They rescue abandoned dogs and cats and seek out new loving homes and owners, and are a non profit orginazition.

That is an awsome story!!!!You go Jake and kudos for LeNoir. That is proof of unconditional love...the brains response of fight/flight. I would do the same thing if that happened to my Jack...I really get wonder how people can ask would you do that? Of course, because you don''t think you just DO!!!

shouldn''t the guy be arrested for animal cruelty? Why is it "OK" to punch a shark who is simply trying to get a meal? If he punched a dog, he''d be in jail right now like Michael Vick.

this guy rocks. there is a video on cnn (not of the actual dog meets shark moment). i hope if i ever have to face a similar situation i can find the same strength as this fella. theres pretty much nothing i wouldnt do to save my cats. some folks cant just cant understand how much a pet can come to mean to someone. mine are members of my family. let the animal haters begin to fling their poo at me for this comment, it is most welcome as i couldnt begin to care what you think.

Greg, you ROCK - Love gives us courage we never dreamt we''d have. I hope you and Jake have a lot of beautiful years together. The SPCA should do a cover story on you.
