(AP)  How does Barack Obama lure wealthy donors to a big-money fundraiser in Hollywood? Bring in Barbra Streisand as the headline performer.

The Oscar-winning singer and actress was to perform Tuesday night on Obama's behalf in Beverly Hills. It was to be a two-step evening with a reception and dinner costing $28,500 a person followed by a later event featuring Streisand at $2,500 a ticket.

Obama was flying to Los Angeles after an appearance Tuesday morning in a Denver suburb.

The wealthy fundraiser comes on a day when the crisis in the U.S. economy remained an urgent issue for many Americans. Monday's sharp sell-off left the Dow Jones industrials and the Standard & Poor's 500 index down by more 4 percent, eroding the value of individual retirement and investment accounts, for example.

Streisand originally backed Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton but switched to Obama when he emerged as the Democratic presidential nominee.

Streisand has been outspoken in criticizing John McCain's selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate on the Republican presidential ticket.

"This calculated, cynical ploy to pull away a small percentage of Hillary's women voters from Barack Obama will not work," Streisand wrote on her Web page. "We are not that stupid!"

"I believe John McCain chose Gov. Palin because he truly believes that women who supported Hillary - an experienced, brilliant, lifelong public servant - would vote for him because his vice president has two X chromosomes," Streisand said. "McCain's selection of Gov. Palin is a transparent and irresponsible decision all in the name of trying to win this election."

Obama is financing his presidential race with private contributions after abandoning a pledge to take public financing capped at $84 million. His campaign announced Sunday it had collected $66 million in August, a fundraising record for any presidential candidate in a monthlong period.

By comparison, McCain raised $47 million in August, a personal best for his campaign as well. After claiming the GOP nomination, McCain accepted the $84 million in taxpayer funds allotted the public financing system for the race.

A lot of them promised to leave when Bush won in 2004. None left. I guess it''s too cold up in Canada and there are not many indoor pools. Plus there are bears!

Obama and his sychophants can raise as much money as they want to, they still won''t be able to buy the election. When the Hollywierd crowd jumps onboard your train, "look out, the bridge may be out ahead".

A night earlier, McCain was with deep-pocketed donors in Florida and raised $5 million, a fact noted by Obama''s campaign.

"I don''t know who showed up down in Florida where he raised $5 million but my guess is that it wasn''t a lot of nurses, firefighters and police officers," Obama''s senior strategist, David Axelrod, told reporters. "The whole corporate lobbying community is rallying to his side. We''re going to have to struggle to keep pace. You can''t challenge that group and not expect them to have a lot of money."

McCain attended his own Hollywood Fundraiser on August 27 at the Beverly Hills Hilton, which included a number of Hollywood Republicans, capping off a $4.7 million, two-event day in the Golden State. Off course when you can only draw the likes of Stephen Baldwin, Pat Boone, Wilford Brimley, Dean Cain, Robert Duvall, Angie Harmon, Patricia Heaton, Lorenzo Lamas, Craig T. Nelson, Jason Sehorn, Gary Sinise, and Jon Voight it might indicate that if you aren%u2019t an A lister yourself you can%u2019t draw A-listers.

On Monday, Sarah Palin hosted a major fundraiser on behalf of John McCain in Canton, Ohio. The event, which raised $1 million, was organized by W.J. "Tim" Timken Jr., a major Republican figure in the state.

Timken''s company, additionally, is a toxic figure within Ohio''s working class community. Only four years ago, Timken Co -- one of the largest manufacturers of tapered roller and needle bearings in the country -- was responsible for job losses in one of the hardest economically hit areas in the United States: Stark County, Ohio.

"He is the stereotypical Republican," said Johnnie Maier, chairman of the Stark County Democrats. "In John McCain''s book, Tim Timken makes more than $5 million so he is not middle class... They made $1 million in a [fundraiser] in a county where the private sector and the public sector are laying off people everywhere because people are broke."

So George w. Bush is the only one who actually has experience in being a president. So why don''t we just give him a third term?

Oh I guess the closest way to do that is to find a way to get McCain and Palin in office.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebri said yesterday that Obama made the demand that Iraq should wait until after the election before talking to the U.S. about withdrawing the troops.Obama thinks this would help him win the election and he could take credit for bringing the troops home...TREASON...

You''ve got your stories confused from the Reagan/Bush Iranian hostage situation.

Why do think the only way Mccain and Palin can gain control of our country is by spreading lies about Obama?

Obama attends Hollywood Fundraiser. $30,000 per person to dine and have a photo taken. Those in the crowd were the Hollywood Elite, Actors and Producers, Ivy League Lawyers, CEO%u2019s, and Union bosses. Obama really represents the common man. Sure he does. As he laughs all the way to the bank. Why live up to the promise of taking Public Financing when you are a pig and can dine at the trough any time.

Obama says McCain is responsible for the bad economy and market woes. He failed to tell everyone that his campaign employed the CEO from Fannie and Freddie who took million dollar severance packages before bailing out just in time. A hypocrite extraordinaire.

I''m from a small town in Pennsylvania, small town values, family, friends are most important to me. I go to Church on Sunday and spend the day with my children and grandchildren. I live within my means and am very comfortable. My house is paid for and I have zero credit card bills. Palin and Mccain are not in my best interest and I will vote OBAMA/BIDEN in November because they are the only logical choice. The republicans have decimated this Country and her Economy is in a shambles. I will never trust them to do what is right for working Americans.

The November 2008 Presidential election was too close to call, even for the media. So to break the tie, Obama and McCain agreed to a challenge. They both would go ice fishing for three days.

On day one, McCain came back with ten fish and Obama none.

On day two, McCain came back with 20 fish and Obama none.

On the third day, Obama''s advisors told him to follow McCain to see if he was cheating. At the end of the day, Obama returned and told his advisors; "I don''t know how McCain got so many fish. All he did was cut holes in the ice all day."

The moral: Experience Matters.

Lynn Sweet is a reporter at Chicago Sun TImes. She is fundraising for Sen. Obama through the newspaper. For this general election season the media, big or small are devoting themselves flatly for Sen Obama.

The media is not reporting any more.

The media is campaining for Sen. Obama.

If he loses it will be a miracle.

economy is really bad and Sen Obama is still a money genius.

He will be burning more than a half Billion dollars by the end of his bid to the Presidency.

economy is really bad. really? What economy are you talking of?

a half billion dollars for a presidency...

28,000 for a dinner with butttery songs?

5,000 for a photo with Sen Obama??

sounds like the last days of Roman empire.

we can glimse at Obama goverment spending style looking at how he manages his campaign money.

He set records in getting money out of people''s pocket, big ones, but more from small ones he claims.

What he doesn''t want us to know is his records in spending.

He is championing in spending money.

His August spending is jut below 60 million dollars, two million dollars a day. With these records he is upgrading money politics in America to a new horizen. This will be the legacy of Sen. Obama in American political history.

Does he spend the money wisely?

I am not sure.

He set quite an ambitious or unrealistic goal to win over 50 states, an overestimation of his popularity and he wasted his resources unfocusedly.

There is no doubt he will raise tax like the way he raised campaign funds. My worry is this. Is he going to spend the tax revenue wisely? So far the record shows the opposite. He doesn''t seem to know of the value of hard earned money.

Easy is money for him.

Just what Osama DIDN''T need right now.
He doesn''t need more negative perception that he is in the bag with the hollywood, ********* pod people, elitists.
He has no chance now that the old man has pulled out the big guns. And he had no business trying to run against a veteran politician. And he is half/black and threw his white grandmother under the bus by calling her a "typical white person" on national TV.
MCCAIN -PALIN......better get used to it !!!

The American Issues Project ad was paid for by Harold Simmons, a McCain fundraiser who also helped finance the 2004 Swift Boat Veterans for Truth ads against then Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry.''''

The Swift Boating of John Kerry will be recorded in history as the most disreputable and unAmerican use of campaign advertising . It will be characterized for ever more as the "new low" in campaigns.
Who would you rather be raising money for whom you intend to vote ~ Barbara Streisand or Harold Simmons. Which one do you suspect will expect the most in return?

Well, actually, it looks like it''s working just fine. McCain has pulled ahead in Minnesota by 53% to 41%. No matter how much money the Hollywood elite and wealthy liberals dump into the Obama campaign, he''s toast anyway. Trying to buy an election is really dumb anyway. The voters see right through it.

This article is going to get a lot of action. Republicans hate Streisand with a hate that cannot be measured. I can''t wait to read what the trolls have to say here.
