(AP)  The once independent-minded John McCain has adopted the serve-the-rich policies of President Bush and the divisive tactics of ex-Bush strategist Karl Rove, Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden said Monday.

Biden blamed the Bush administration for inaction in the face of sharp cuts in automotive jobs and said McCain, like the president, was out of touch with economic suffering.

Speaking to hundreds of people in a sweltering high school gym in the Detroit suburb of St. Clair Shores, the Delaware senator decried "a culture in Washington where the very few wealthy and powerful have a seat at the table and the rest of us are on the menu."

Biden said McCain's economic programs are virtual copies of those of the past eight years under Bush and serve the rich.

"John McCain stands with George Bush firmly in the corner of the wealthy and well-connected," Biden said. "He stands with the oil company CEOs who swore to me, under penalty of perjury, that they didn't need tax breaks to explore for oil."

Republican spokesman Chris Taylor said Obama and Biden would damage the economy with higher taxes. "Michiganders have seen what Democrat-led taxes can do to a local economy," he said.

Biden also criticized the negative tone of McCain's campaign.

"The campaign a person runs says everything about the way they'll govern," he said. "John McCain has decided to bet the house on the politics perfected by Karl Rove."

Biden was referring to a series of attack ads from the McCain campaign as well as misstatements that the Republican presidential candidate and running mate Sarah Palin have continued to repeat after they were debunked. Barack Obama's campaign particularly bristled at an ad suggesting the Democratic nominee favored teaching kindergartners about sex before reading, based on a bill he supported that would teach age-appropriate sex education to those kids and help them ward off sexual predators.

McCain "is now launching a low blow a day," Biden said.

Despite his reputation for bare-knuckle politics, Rove said Sunday that both sides are being too negative and McCain has gone "one step too far" in showing ads that are not true.

Biden said he came to McCain's defense in 2000 when the Republican came under attack from Bush operatives and supporters who spread "scurrilous" rumors about him in the primary campaign. "And now, some of the very same people and the tactics he once deplored, his campaign now employs."

Later Monday, Biden planned to tour a Mazda auto assembly plant and to speak at a campaign stop in Flat Rock, south of Detroit.

"In 2000, there were 497 rapes reported in Alaska, FBI statistics show. That''''s a rate of 79.3 per 100,000 residents, the highest in the nation.

Nationally, victims'''' advocates have for years reported scattered instances of rape victims being required to pay for their forensic tests, says Ilse Knecht of the National Center for Victims of Crime in Washington. Those complaints have subsided somewhat after Congress in 2005 passed a law requiring states to provide rape exams free of charge or reimburse victims for the costs, says Knecht, whose group supported the provision.

"The reason we passed the legislation was that we saw it was prevalent enough to be a pretty considerable problem," Knecht says. "There are no other victims of crime that end up being billed for evidence collection."

The Senate version of the legislation that included the rape-exam provision was sponsored by Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware, the Democratic vice presidential nominee. Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama was one of 58 co-sponsors; Republican presidential nominee John McCain was not."

Actually, every recession was on republican watch.
In the 30''s, a democrat, FDR, had to clean the mess.

"On the other hand, McCAIN is against equal pay and once joked about a women getting raped that "she should just lie back and enjoy it"

Actually, it was McCain''s fundraiser Clayton Williams.
For the rest, you are right.

"In the Senate, McCain opposed a variety of measures on equal pay for women, and endorsed the Supreme Court''''s Ledbetter decision. In July, however, McCain said, "I''''m committed to making sure that there''''s equal pay for equal work. That - is my
record and you can count on it."

Biden who? Why hasnt Barrack been campaigning with his VP? Seems like the media would jump all over this. That is if the media was honest and balanced. The messiah has come to save us. Too many bitter small town working Americans just dont know it yet. The elitist Harvard lawyer is the answer to our prayers. Cactus John and Moose Palin are the real solution We dont need another team of lawyers (Obama and Biden) running this country. Look what all the lawyers in the senate brought us.

Mccain only needed Palin to energize his base because he couldn''t do it and keeping her away from reporters and answering questions is proof he didn''t pick her for her knowledge of the issues. Infact, I believe Palin talking to reporters is the Mccain campaign worst nightmare. Its the Mccain campaign who''s sexist, there using a woman to do there dirty work of energizing the base and give speeches they prepare but treat Palin as if she''s incompetent to handle reporters or stand on her own but were supposed to believe she''s ready to be Commander and Chief? Yeah Right! Its the Mccain campaign, thats sexist keeping Palin locked up to serve the only purpose to decieve voters into voting for the Mccain/Palin ticket. On the same turn treating a woman as either untrustworthy to give a press conference or being interviewed by reporters. Which make me believe the Mccain has something to hide which expalins the repeated and consistant lies and spin within their campaign. The media really needs to do their job and expose the Mccain''s lies as a strategy to decieve the American people and win the White House. The problem is his policies will mimic the Bush years which will be a death wish to us all.

Mccain/Palin ticket is a fraud. There not Mavericks or reformers. Everything that Palin could say that would make her reformer or Maverick turns out to be a lie. Mccain was a Maverick before he turned his back against the same issues that made him a Maverick. Mccain said he wouldn''t vote for his own Immigration Bill to win the republican nomination, now after throwing Latino''s under the bus he''s now going to secure the borders then work on immigration. Mccain is a liar and a fraud and so is Palin.
