(AP)  A woman in Dayton, Ohio, has been sentenced to life in prison without a chance of parole for killing her baby daughter in a microwave oven.

Twenty-eight-year-old China Arnold chose not to be in the courtroom for Monday's sentencing.

Arnold was convicted of aggravated murder in the 2005 death of month-old daughter Paris Talley.

She was spared the death penalty because jurors could not reach a consensus on the punishment.

It was Arnold's second trial; the first ended in a mistrial when new witnesses surfaced.

Defense attorney Jon Paul Rion has asked for a third trial, saying a former cellmate who said Arnold confessed has now changed her story.

The defense had argued that Arnold was drunk when the offense occurred and had no motive, while prosecutors had called the crime "heinous" as they argued for the death penalty.

During the trial, an 8-year-old boy said he saw another boy walk into the kitchen of a nearby apartment with the baby, heard the microwave go on and then later saw the burned baby in the microwave.

China Arnold should consider the help of a surgeon. A modified frontal lobotomy is a very therapeutic treatment for her paranoid schizophrenia. The Judge in this case would grant clemency if the doctor performed the procedure. The State Prison must approve this move.

I could not live knowing I had done something as horrible as this to another living being. I also hope there is no such as reincarnation, for we don''t get to pick and chose who we want to be born to and I''d hate to be born to some weirdo such as this woman.

I seem to remember that this has happened a few times in the world now... are they now going to out law microwaves because of the abuse to children, just as they did when a small minority said that a smack was abuse..
I am joking of course..but outlawing a jolly good smack was also rediculious...and we now reap the consequences of that law..
It is no joking matter, people are hurting their animals and children with microwaves.. Why the hang didnt she leave it on someones door step instead of killing it..

Since I first read this, I didn''t believe it. She was so drunk she was almost unconcious but she managed to carry her baby to someone else''s apartment and microwave it? I really think they need to take a serious look at this other boy. If he did do, that community will be in a world of hurt when he does something even more graphic later. He had a history of microwaving living things. I do think this woman is a serious mess and needs inhouse psychiatric care and to dry out but I am not convinced she did it. Guilty of criminal negligene for getting so drunk she didn''t notice someone carrying her baby out of the apartment, yes.
