Poll: Obama/Biden Take Eight-Point Lead

Democratic Ticket Gets Boost After Convention, CBS News Poll Finds

(CBS)  Democratic nominee Barack Obama's lead over Republican John McCain has grown after the Democratic convention, which 71 percent of Americans say they watched. Obama and his running mate Joe Biden now lead McCain and Sarah Palin 48 percent to 40 percent, according to the latest CBS News poll.

This is the first CBS News poll to include the vice presidential candidates in the horserace question.

Read The Complete Poll:
Post-Democratic Convention Poll
The eight-point lead for the Democratic ticket is up from Obama’s three-point lead before the convention. But there are still a significant number of voters who have yet to firmly make up their minds.

Before the Democratic convention, McCain enjoyed a 12-point advantage with independent voters, but now Obama leads among this group 43 percent to 37 percent. Obama's lead among women has also grown to 14 points (50 percent to 36 percent), and the Democrat maintained the lead he had before the convention among voters who supported Senator Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primaries.

The poll shows an increase in the number of Obama voters who are enthusiastic about him. Sixty-seven percent of Obama voters say they enthusiastically support him, which is up from 48 percent who said so before the convention. About a quarter of McCain’s backers are enthusiastic about him--unchanged from before the Democratic convention.

Sixty-three percent of registered voters say Obama understands their needs and problems, while just 41 percent say that about McCain. And after the Democratic convention, 58 percent of voters say Obama is "tough enough," which is up from 48 percent in early August.

Though Obama has seen his lead grow, there are still areas where he has room to improve. The latest CBS News poll shows no change in the percentage of registered voters who say Obama has prepared himself well enough for the job-- a sentiment in which McCain has held a large advantage. But fewer voters now say Obama is not prepared for the job of President than before the convention.

Although 50 percent of voters now say that Obama has made it clear what he would do as president (up from 41 percent), 44 percent still say the Democratic nominee has not made it clear.

But compare the campaigns - Obama has run an exceptional campaign, while mccain seems to always be puttin'' out fires chasin'' Obama. This palin nomination is a debacle. She''s an absolutely unqualified - and leans way too far right for me. Did he really think woman would vote for just any woman? It appears she wasn''t vetted and the dirt is all comin'' out. These folks are lookin'' like the Clampets. Meanwhile, the fine tuned Obama machine is cruisin'' on...

ZOGBY:

McCain/Palin 47%
Obama/Biden 45%..

Who do you want as VP?

Joe Biden. The "cheney" to compensate for sweetie hussein''s gross inexperience; a plagiarizing expert who has stolen more words than Milton Berle (and he''s just as funny). Totally lacking in ethics, in his third-rate, mediocre law school Biden was only able to graduate 76th in a class of 85 - i.e., he was in the lowest 10.5%! Of course, while campaigning, he claimed falsely to have graduated in the "top half" of his class. A plagiarizer and a LIAR! As a politics-as-usual, 30+-year Washington parasite, Plagiarist-Joe never worked harder than in his efforts to kill bi-partisan legislation simply because it would have adversely affected the enormous income of his lobbyist son. Plagiarist-Joe is the poster-boy for all that is rotten in Washington. This choice illustrates the incredibly bad judgment of the Chicago Cretin.

Sarah Palin. A true political reformer who has cleaned-up one of the most politically corrupt states in the nation and who has shown a solid and unwavering commitment to ethical government. Palin is the antithesis of Plagiarist-Joe.

Tough choice? ----NOT!

(For the genetically low-IQ supporters of hussein: sorry about using all these adult words. Just so you''ll understand, "antithesis" means "opposite". Being a plagiarist is "bad" - not in sense of "good" but in the sense that going to jail for beating-up your old lady is "bad".)

Early THIS year, an op-ed in the Anchorage Daily News ripped into Gov. Sarah Palin''s appearance (1/15/08) on a morning "shock jock" radio show ("The Bob and Mark Show") as "plain and simple one of the most unprofessional, childish and inexcusable performances I''ve ever seen from a politician."

Palin has feuded with State Senate president, Lyda Green, over a wide range of legislation.

Lester referred to Sen. Green as a jealous woman and a cancer.

PALIN knows full well Lyda Green is a CANCER SURVIVOR, but didn''t do what any decent person would do, say, "Bob, that''s going too far."

Lester questioned Green''s motherhood, asking Palin if the senator cares about her own kids.

PALIN LAUGHS.

Then Lester says, "Lyda Green is a cancer and a b*tch."

PALIN LAUGHS for the second time.

What were teenage boys and girls thinking when they heard the governor laugh at someone being called a b*tch? How about the teenage girls who look up to Palin. What did they think when they heard her laugh?

But there is more. Lester then describes Green''s chair as big and cushy. A clear reference to the senator''s weight.

PALIN LAUGHS a third time. She''s just having a grand old time.

Palin was clearly enjoying every second of Lester''s vicious attack on her political rival. Then she says she''s "honored" by Lester and invites him to her speech.

Here is why you need the NATIONAL and INTERNATIONAL experience of a SENATOR to be our President or VP:

GW Bush.

When former Texas governor Bush because president, he cut funding for a program to corral and dispose of loose nuclear weapons grade material in the former Soviet Union, which sought to keep such material out of the hands of Islamic terrorists. Bush, understanding little of national or international affairs, thought terrorism wasn''t an issue (he famously disregarded Clintons advice on Al-Qaida when he came to office).

This is understandable, of course, for a Texas governor. Its even more understandable in a governor, like Palin, who''s been looking after fewer people than the Mayor of Memphis, Tennessee.

When Obama became Senator, he immediately joined the effort to corral nuclear materials in the Soviet Union: (apparently he doesn''t want nuclear material to get into the hands of terrorists either), and travelled to the Ukraine to monitor its progress. (Bush had meekly refunded the effort AFTER 9-11 taught him a lesson in international affairs).

What lessons will Palin be learning ''on the job''??

You cannot be a "true" independent and voting republican in this election. True independents understand the adversarial aspect of our checks and balances system. Therefore you must fire the republicans this time around because of the sadistic abuse of power. Then when the democrats abuse power, fire them. That is a true independent! 1/3 of stated independents are true, the rest are impostures or in denial. Please tell me what the Republican Party has done to earn the independent vote? The only chance republicans had at the true independent voter was if Arnold Schwarzenegger was running.

"In its first national labor scorecard, the Rutgers School of Management and Labor Relations said more than 10 percent of Americans are unemployed, discouraged from seeking work or underemployed. That is a nearly 25-percent increase from one year earlier..."

Of course, at his convention speech, McSame will say that he economy is fundamentally sound, and that over regulation is to blame for any problems.

Also of course the press will let him slide on that one.

Interesting.....

Obama''s poll numbers had flattened after the convention and CNN came out with a poll earlier today that Obama had 1 point lead.

THEN, CBS comes out with a poll that Obama was 8% ahead over "exactly" the same time period with "fewer" registered voters contacted.

What is truth? Even using the error percentages, this CBS poll is an "outlier".

Brian, Rutgers may have to restate their analysis as to whether those 10% are "citizens" or Boomers.

There are a very large number of unemployed Hispanics who have gone home. They can not apply for unemployment and have lost hope in the housing and construction industries.

One other event occuring is the "daily" retirement of thousands of Boomers.

I have not seen any academic analyis of Boomers and illegal aliens'' impact on unemployment.

My guess is that if those two events were not going on we would be much higher than 5.7% which is historically very good for a "recession".

This poll is good, but the job of well meaning Republicans and Independents is not done yet. The Rove/Corsi types will stop at nothing to further their agenda. They are lock-step with the right-wing media.

Under the catagory of "FOX news is at it again" In a FOX News "exclusive" (prior to the DNC Convention), Kristol, a regular contributor, said inside sources suggested (Colin) Powell would show up in Denver in the week of Aug. 25 specifically to back the presumptive presidential nominee (Obama).

%u201CHe may well give a speech at the Democratic convention explaining his endorsement of Obama,%u201D Kristol said, citing the sources.

...Powell said he hasn%u2019t endorsed anyone yet and wouldn%u2019t be attending the convention.

%u201CI do not have time to waste on Bill Kristol%u2019s musings,%u201D Powell told ABC News. %u201CI am not going to the convention. I have made this clear.%u201D

This "report" was put out to lesson the impact to the GOP if Powel was to join Obama. If he was to support McCain (after all he is still a Republican) it would steal even more momentum from Obama.

More "Fair & Balanced" (NOT) from FIX''d news.

Sarah Palin FLAT OUT LIED about her supposed "opposition" to the famous "bridge to nowhere" in Alaska.

In her V.P. introductory speech she claimed she said, "thanks but no thanks" to the pork barrel project. IT WAS A LIE.

LESS THAN 2 YEARS AGO, the Anchorage Daily News quoted her on Oct. 22, 2006, as saying yes, she would continue state funding for the bridge because she wanted swift action on infrastructure projects. "The window is now while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist," she said.

In a Sept. 20, 2006 appearance of the gubernatorial candidates in Ketchikan, she said, "The money that''s been appropriated for the project, it should remain available for a link, an access process as we continue to evaluate the scope and just how best to just get this done," the Ketchikan Daily News quoted Palin as saying. "This link is a commitment to help Ketchikan expand its access, to help this community prosper. I think we''re going to make a good team as we progress that bridge project."

Ketchikan Mayor Bob Weinstein said he was there at the candidate forum when "she was asked about the bridge and she supported it."

SO PALIN LIES. She''s a weak token candidate- an insult to the much more qualified Republican women McCain could have selected. Oh, and SHE LIES.

PALIN REPEATEDLY LAUGHS AS CANCER SURVIVOR OPPONENT CALLED NASTY NAMES

Since Sarah is credited for cleaning up her own Republican party, I wonder, if she did make it to the White House if she would continue cleaning it up there. She can start at the top and clean out McCain, we all know he is corrupt and has been for many years. They say she will bring in the Evangelist voters, that is good since McCain''s marriage record and the fact he has a pre-nup with Cindy does not sit well with them. (Nor does beauty pageants but oh well.) But what about her child with Downs Syndrome, who will take care of him if she accepts the busy schedule of the White House? I guess it''s easy for the rich to hire out family responsibilities, anyone can have many children and sick children if the can afford to have someone do all the care. It must be nice. Most of us, however, do it alone, we raise and care for our families alone, some even care for the elderly alone. When you do it alone your perception changes. Maybe you would think twice if you paid the price.
My point is they are out of touch with the average Joe. They do not represent me. Their lives are far different.

McCain had a multitude of more qualified people to select (including Republican women like Hutchinson, Rice, Collins, Snowe, etc.), but chose someone just to to "stick it to Obama", kiss up with the far-far-right, try and sway a few Clinton holdouts, and balance his age.

Instead McCain put POLITICS over COUNTRY

McCain has NO INTEGRITY. His "Country First" slogan is nothing more than that. "Winning First" should be his slogan. It is more accurate.

How sad. This woman has only 19 months experience. Before that she was part-time mayor of a 9000 person town.

She has NO foreign policy experience- she hasn''t even been out of her state to deal with foreign leaders. America''s enemies would eat her alive when McCain dies in office.

Don''t forget- she used her power over THREE YEARS (and during her entire short term as governor) to get an ex-husband of her relative fired from a state job, then fired the State agency head who would not fire the "ex" as she demanded. She has been pursuing a VINDICTIVE CAMPAIGN against the ex-husband for THREE YEARS, using all of her levers of power including her appointed government officials and beholden political associates. She''s under investigation for misusing her power in this case. Quite an accomplishment- corruption before being in office even a year.

She lied about opposing the "bridge to nowhere."

This is a weak pick. It looks all shiny on the surface, but once people take a little closer look at her she will be seen as the incompetent she is.
