PUMAs On The March

(The Politico)  DENVER -- A crowd of about three dozen women and one man are marching down 16th Street in support of Hillary Clinton, chanting "No we won't," "18 million votes" and "No secret ballot."

A group of local Denver residents stop to cheer them on. "Yeah, don't cave!" shouts a self-described Republican named George. "Go Hillary!" The marchers, who say they are affiliated with PUMA Pac, cheer in response.

"I love this," says Mike Philbin, who also describes himself as a Republican. "We like Hillary, because they're all going to vote for McCain."

The demonstrators cause relatively little commotion as they move down the street, save for a few shouts of "Get over it!"

One female Obama supporter stops Ginny Roemer, 55, of Berkeley, California, and tries to persuade her to vote for Obama, arguing that McCain's Supreme Court picks could curtail abortion rights. "We'd rather have the babies," replies Roemer, walking off.

Further down the block, Roemer says she has made up her mind not to vote for Obama, but won't vote for McCain, either. "I'm so disgusted he didn't even talk to her about the V.P.," she says. "He thinks he can just waltz in." Pressed on whether her decision is absolutely final, she leaves some wiggle room, noting that she'd much rather have Democrats staffing such agencies as FEMA and the Environmental Protection Agency.

"There is a possible chance" she'll vote for Obama, she says. "It's a heartbreak, but I'm a Democrat."
