Column: Paris For Prez! McCain Bites Hand That Feeds

Its bad when someone gives you money to use for school supplies and you blow it on bubble gum at the drugstore. But its really bad when someone gives you money for your presidential campaign and you mock their daughter--potentially their whole family-in a campaign ad.

Thats just what presidential candidate John McCain did in his newest campaign ad that labels Barack Obama as the biggest celebrity in the world, as frivolous as Britney Spears or Paris Hilton, and questions his ability to run the country. This was a questionable move, considering the $4,600 the Hiltons donated to McCain earlier this year. Paris Hiltons reps told People.com that Miss Hilton was neither asked, nor did she give permission, for the use of her likeness in the ad, and has no further comment.

Obama responded quickly to the ad, saying, He doesnt seem to have anything positive to say about me, does he? You need to ask John McCain what hes for, not just what hes against. Paris Hilton wouldnt take McCains attacks lying down, either-Hilton fired back with a rebuttal ad, calling John McCain that old dude, and detailing an energy plan that actually sounded good. But, McCain had a response to that, too. MTV.com reports that Hiltons proposed energy plan just goes to show how unfit to rule Obama is. McCain spokesperson Tucker Bounds released a statement saying that perhaps the reality is that Paris has a more substantive energy plan than Barack Obama.

Kathy Hilton, Paris mother, also had something to say about McCains humorous ad. In a statement issued to the Huffington Post, Hilton said that the ad is a complete waste of the money John McCains contributors have donated to his campaign. It is a complete waste of the countrys time and attention at the very moment when millions of people are losing their homes and their jobs. And it is a completely frivolous way to choose the next President of the United States. As Hilton was one of those aforementioned contributors, her opinion should hold some weight with the Republican presidential nominee.

This is yet another taste of John McCains humorous side, which has been showing up more and more in this campaign. Perhaps McCains plan to get votes by telling jokes will work, or maybe hell take a hint from this situation and go back to the issues.
