It's still early. That’s what some folks must be saying around Barack Obama's campaign headquarters today.

A brand new Reuters-Zogby poll shows John McCain has jumped out to a five point lead. Five points up for McCain from seven points down in about a month is a pretty big turn around.

In that month John McCain has referred to his opponent in mostly condescending terms. Condescension as a tactic can be tricky business but, McCain has been a virtuoso of subtext.

In demeanor and word, McCain has been playing the hardened grown up, dismissive of his younger rival. And during these troubled times, it seems America is looking for someone who can ably take the helm.

This new poll shows Americans by a margin of 49-to-40 percent think McCain would do a better job with the economy. That's right, the guy who just a few months ago confessed he didn’t know much about it, is now perceived as better able to manage it.

American unease about the future may be McCain's biggest ally.

FOR A LITTLE COMMON SENSE, BOTH CANDIDATES, AS WELL AS CONGRESS, MIGHT DO WELL TO LISTEN TO ANDREW BACEVICH%u2026 NOT JUST HEAR HIM

Only rarely does someone surface with qualifications as well as insights and a delivery that stimulate thinking. Even more rarely does an individual stimulate the very personal mental articulation of self observation.

Bacevich deserves as broad an audience as can be exposed to his thoughtful analysis.

If America votes in another Republican president this time, all I can say is we will get what we deserve. If you think the Bush tragic 8 years were the worst, than what do you think we will have with 4 more years of those type of "successes"? If I wake up on Nov. 5 and see that John McSame has won, then I will have to agree with the Europeans assessment of Americans, that we truly are a simple-minded corrupt nation of fools!

So McCain says he knows little about Economics...doesn''t mean he won''t do a better job than Obama. Don''t forget, McCain has something going for him that Americans value highly, it''s called HONESTY.

I mistakenly thought I knew a little about politics. I don''t know how I could have been so wrong. I thought that voters normally tended to vote in their best interest but it appears that is not the case. For the last several years I have listened to people biotch and complaign about how tough things were and how they just didn''t know how they were going to make it. And now, faced with the exact same policies that have been in place for the last eight years, the voters are going to elect to keep those same policies in place. If that happens, and every indicitation is that it will, when people start to complaign I''m going to tell them to shut up. This is what you wanted, live with it.

If McCain picks Romney or lieberman watch that little bump McCain has gotten in the polls disappear. Romney will Hurt McCain with the evengelicals and christian base of the Party, they will turn and Run. Put Huckabee on the ticket and get the Base excited all ready, Then you can win this thing. No one is going to "Not" vote for McCain if he picks Huckabee., If he Picks Romney There will be a ton of People that Wont Vote for McCain. Whats really going on is Romney belongs to the RNC. The RNC wants to make sure that they stay in power. By putting bush 4 in office ie (Romney) after McCains term is over. The RNC dont like Huckabee because he is more for the working class. That is blasphemy in the GOP. Y McCain will lose if he picks Romney http://www.hotpres.com I guess someone is making a movie about Obama''s teenage years. http://www.theobamaplan.com
watch video of McCain talking about his failed first marrige at http://www.mccanes.com
