Meet the Nancy Pelosi of the Great Plains.

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas, who remains on Barack Obama’s vice-presidential short list, was in Detroit on Tuesday to launch a woman-voter-outreach program for Barack Obama’s campaign. “I think many people in Michigan and Kansas and across the country really don’t know much about John McCain’s policies and how he has voted the last 25 years,” Sebelius said.

But Michiganders - and the country - may not be ready to embrace Sebelius’ radical green resume either.

Sebelius has spearheaded Kansas efforts to ban new coal plants, becoming the first state to reject new energy generation on health (read global warming) grounds.

“Instead of building two new coal plants, which would produce 11 million new tons of carbon dioxide each year,” Sebelius said earlier this year in defending the state’s decision to nix new coal facilites in west Kansas. “We now know that carbon has a huge impact on the atmosphere, and global warming is very real. In a state like Kansas, where over 20 percent of our jobs and economy involves agriculture and the land, changes in the climate and atmosphere can be devastating. Kansas has great opportunities in clean energy and alternative fuels.”

But as Planet Gore’s own Sterling Burnett has reported, 13 potential Kansas wind-farm projects are endangered as a direct result of the state’s rejection of the coal plants!

“New transmission lines were to be part of the $3.6 billion Sunflower Electric Power Corp. project,” reported Burnett. “But with the fate of that project in doubt, several western Kansas officials say their projects aren’t feasible without the additional transmission capacity.”

“I’d say this decision pretty much halts wind development in western Kansas,” said David Snyder, economic development director in Ness County. “We need transmission lines, and we need the coal plants to get them.”

Snyder is simply reciting Renewable Power 101: It’s not economically practical for transmission lines to be erected for wind alone due to the line expense and the erratic nature of wind power. Wind, in other words, can only supplement larger (and less intermittent) energy sources.

Such energy fundamentals are of no concern to zealots like Sebelius, however. Her administration’s decision has enraged western Kansans who were counting on coal power for economic development. The legislature has tried repeatedly to overrule the state Department of Health and the Environment’s ruling, only to meet three vetos from Governess No.

“Not only do we lose the $3.6 billion expansion investment (and) those hundreds of jobs won’t happen,” says Kansas House Speaker Melvin Neufeld, “(but) other companies considering expansion in Kansas may see us as an unfriendly place to do business and tens of thousands of Kansans now face the very real possibility of higher electric bills.”

Washington is already top-heavy with green zealots like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. An Obama/Sebelius ticket would fit right in.

brianbwb - In just about all of your comments, you solely blame the Bush administration for taking us to war, and lives lost, yadda yadda yadda. You keep forgetting to add that Bush wouldn''''t have been able to go to war without the blessings of your moronic democrats that voted to go. Yes, it turns out we went into Iraq under false pretenses. However, the democrats on the hill at the time believed the information too.Posted by gameoverdems at 05:22 AM

Well, gameover, I imagine that anyone that voted for Bush''s little folly, Democrat or Republian alike, never dreamed that a president would lie to them to get us involved in a war. Bush has set the bar so low for a president, that no one in a hundred years will be able to go lower. Worst president in the history of the United States.

live in Kansas. Governor Sebelius used to be a reasonable governor. But in the last couple of years, she seems to have lost her mind. Now its okay to legally own an AK47 in Kansas. What the hell for? She strikes me as now to big for her britches...kinda like Oprah.

I think you stepped in a little manure on that horse farm. Kathleen Sebelius vetoed the concealed carry law but it was overridden. I personally supported the concealed carry law and knew her veto would be overridden as did she.

As usual, the "radical" right gives you about 20pct of the facts, and makes up the rest to fit their twisted agenda.
Having lived in Kansas all of my life, let me tell you about the coal plants. These two new coal plants proposed for western Kansas would provide no energy for Kansas, just states to the west of us, Colorada and I think, New Mexico or Arizona.
So, Kansas would get all of the gunk and none of the energy. About 80pct of Kansans opposed this.
We have been building wind farms, in fact, there is a large new wind farm very close to where I live. I can''t imagine how they got those pesky transmission lines up.

I don''t mind someone supporting the coal plants but this kind of sloppy slanted reporting just to advance your point is atrocious. Kathleen Sebelius is hardly radical about anything. She has won two elections in a VERY red state. She is soft spoken, elegant, classy, and very much a lady. She was a terrific insurance commisioner and protected consumers faithfully.
She was ready to sign a bill allowing two lower capacity coal fired plants to be built, but Sunflower wants the biggies so they can make huge profits on the backs of Kansans.
So I think Michigan can relax about this "radical."

You can tell when someone at NRO is getting scared. (They call it concerned.) It is when they started labeling and name calling. NRO is no longer the thinking conservative''s outlet. It is simply a propaganda slime machine of the extreme right wing of the Republican Party.

The experience levels of Obama and a Sebelius, when combined, aren''t even comparable to one-fifth of what McCain would bring to the office. You still can''t make a silk purse out of a sow''s ear, no matter how capable one''s handlers craft their candidate''s appearance, or scripted rhetoric.

Wind farms, AK47s and some nutcase in Detroit who thinks people in Kansas are excessively green. And CBS reprints it.

Yeah, right. Whatever. (Anyone know where to find a reputable news source any more?)

this is the end for obama if he selects a far left liberal like sebelius. clinton can pull in more women & undecided voters than the other front runner ups for veep. then again,it all comes down to what michelle obama wants. she runs him.

"This Pelosi of Kansas is another one of those spaced out liberals who believe in a one world, one government fantasy." Posted by ForeverTru

But they are not the ones lying us into wars to murder government leaders of other countries, replacing them with puppet regimes, setting up military bases and concentration camps in countries in which we are not welcome, stealing the natural resources of those occupied nations, nor are they attempting to dictate the value of other countries'' currency.

Change your name to "foreverignorantofthetruth", it is more accurate.

"Washington is already top-heavy with green zealots like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. An Obama/Sebelius ticket would fit right in."

A growing number of Americans, approaching a majority, already see the writing on the wall, which reads "go green, or die slaves to oil".

Only those who are unable to read what is on the wall ignorantly and arrogantly think that America can continue its current path.

This Pelosi of Kansas is another one of those spaced out liberals who believe in a one world, one government fantasy. Click your heals 3 times Sebelius and the Wizard of Oz will show you the yellow brick road.

By the way, Obama is another one of those idiots who actually believes that every country on the face of the Earth will come together under his leadership and make him King.

King Obama and Queen Sebelius.....still having those Cocaine flashbacks.

%u201CNot only do we lose the $3.6 billion expansion investment (and) those hundreds of jobs won%u2019t happen,%u201D says Kansas House Speaker Melvin Neufeld..."

"We"? No one is losing anything, except for the power companies missing a chance to steal more money, a few construction workers to lay the bricks, and even fewer operators.

%u201C...(but) other companies considering expansion in Kansas may see us as an unfriendly place to do business and tens of thousands of Kansans now face the very real possibility of higher electric bills.%u201D

No companies that could bring meaningful jobs to Kansas are considering it anyway, they can get cheap slave labor in other countries, the most they bring to Kansas are a few McJobs, at retail outlets that no one can afford to patronize anyway.

The NRO and the rest of the American Taliban continually prove to me that being a liberal is the smartest, most honest approach to governance politics. Thanks troglodytes!

Nancy Pelosi is one of the biggest drawbacks to Obama and the Democrats. We sure don''t want another one.

You guys did Kathleen Sebelius no favors with that comparison.

What do you expect from a short sighted ignorant and corporate National Republican Order (NRO). They stand, along with the Grand Oil Party (GOP) for the fat cats and against the people of the United States.

funny, NRO thinks labeling someone as "radical green" is a negative.

Truth is the article shows her to be a no-nosense leader who did not get taken in by a corporate scam, trying to tie power lines for wind farms to construction of massively polluting coal power plants.

More sleaze from the NRO. The NRO is a little like the National Enquirer, dripping with half truths, innuendo and outright lies.

Kathleen Sebelius is a great governor and a great lady. But, she''s a democrat. So of course that makes her evil - in the eyes of the NRO.

We don''t need more partisanship. We need leadership, and Kathleen could very well provide it.

Why kathy would be great as a vp. She follows orders well, brings tears to her eyes when called on something. I''m referring to the time a tornado destroyed one of her towns and ole howie got on the phone and told her to blame the Iraq war for not enough National Guard to assist. Well, seems she was called on it, admitted to it and welled up in tears. Yep, the messiah''s handlers should love her.
jmurrerta1-are you aware that cindy mccain heads up many foundations for third world countries?? Are you aware that she has taken 5 trips to Darfur?? Are you aware that the mccain''s adopted a little girl from Bandladesh in 1988?? Are you aware that mccain''s son is serving his 2nd tour in Iraq??
Now, other that sucking up to middle East dictators
what has queen nance done for this country?? Oh yea, demand a bigger jet.
Idiot!!
