NYC Cops: Attacker Suspected Of A Dozen Robberies Of Elderly Victims - Watch The Video

(CBS/AP)  Authorities are looking for a man caught on video attacking and robbing an elderly woman in a Brooklyn elevator, and say he's connected to a string of assaults targeting older victims.

Police have released video from the latest incident last week, when 85-year-old Lillian France was choked and robbed of $900 and her cane as she attempted to get off an elevator in a Crown Heights building.

Authorities said the attack was one of a dozen robberies of the elderly since the end of June in the Crown Heights, Flatbush and Kensington sections of Brooklyn.

We are lucky he hasn't killed somebody," a police source told the New York Daily News. "I would like to believe that people have more respect for the elderly."

The newspaper said the mugger had stolen a bible from one of his victims, and a Medicaid card from another.

Unfortunately, when this piece of filth is apprehended, he''ll get a court assigned attorney who will plead as a defense his terrible and abusive upbringing and his general environment as mitigating factors to having committed the crime. Then the jury will side with the criminal and feel judicially compassionate for him and not find him guilty. The victim, of course, will never be able to receive justice since the system protects and cares more about criminals than they do the victims.

Elderly people are always taken advantage of. We get mad when a mugger (perhaps a black mugger)steals the cane of the elderly. But I think the elderly are more likely robbed in cold blood by white collar folks. It would be nice to protect the elderly. But where are the same protections for children? Our American society will correctly shun those who hit elderly or handicapped regardless of their dependency or behavior. But parents who beat their child are off the hook. It would seem there is definite bias in this media. These newspeople are getting close to retirement age.
