Whole Foods Recalls Possibly Tainted Beef

Worries Over E. Coli Contamination Prompt Recall Of Beef Sold Between June 2 and Aug. 6

(AP)  Whole Foods Market is recalling fresh ground beef sold between June 2 through Aug. 6, including beef possibly sold in Ohio, because of worries over E. coli bacteria contamination.

The company has received reports that seven people in Massachusetts and two people in Pennsylvania who shopped at Whole Foods Market became ill, spokeswoman Libba Letton said.

The company's recalled beef was processed at the Nebraska Beef plant linked to the E. coli outbreak this summer, she said. Federal health authorities say there have been 49 confirmed illnesses tied to that outbreak.

The recalled beef might have been sold at Whole Foods Market stores in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, Massachusetts, Florida, New Jersey, New York, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington D. C., Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Canada.

Whole Foods Market of Austin, Texas, is asking customers who may have purchased ground beef from June 2 though Aug. 6 to dispose of the product and return it to the store with the packaging or receipt for a refund. For more information, consumers can call 512-542-0878.

These constant, unending events of contaminated food supplies goes way beyond sheer incompetence, malfeasance, and irresponsibility and into the area of willful criminal negligence!

Is this administration TRYING to murder off the citizens by lack of conducting inspections, enforcing regulations, etcetera?! It certainly LOOKS LIKE IT!

Yes, that''s probably true! But, then when they''re trying to make the case to the public that NAFTA is GOOD---is it good that our food supply becomes
contaminated---as a result of this ''free trade'' through NAFTA?! H3ll, no it''s not! I''d say the result tends to add further evidence AGAINST NAFTA, not favor it!

stn_stage, you must be right. Nobody ever was sickened by e-coli prior between 1992 and 2000. Nice try to make it political issue.

I think when GWB flew over to China he had Air Force 1 spray e-coli over the country.

My intent WAS or IS to point out how routine---downright common---our food chain has become tainted, infected, and in many cases deadly to it''s victims!

NOW, we have ANOTHER deadly meat alert!

I didn''t make it a political issue, Bush and Cheney through THEIR bungling and failure to oversee the FDA, Dept of Agriculture, and CDC---have made it a political issue! I suggest you THANK them! THEY''re responsible!
