Jon Voight Blasts Obama

Says He'd Usher In Socialism And Is Weak On Terror; Hasn't Spoken To Daughter, Angelina Jolie, About The New Twins

(CBS)  Jon Voight charges that Barack Obama would bring socialism to the United States if he reached the Oval Office, and says Obama is weak on terror.

In an op-ed piece in The Washington Times last week, the Oscar-winning actor adds that he's disturbed by Obama's past associations with what he calls "militant white and black people."

Voight didn't back off those assertions in a wide-ranging interview with Early Show co-anchor Julie Chen Tuesday.

He also told Chen he hasn't spoken with his daughter, actress Angelina Jolie, since she gave birth to twins recently.

Jolie stopped talking to her father in 2002 when he said in a TV interview that she had "severe emotional problems."

Several reports online quote them both as saying they're working on mending their relationship. Jolie said in an interview with an Australian newspaper, "We are going to try to get to know each other and maybe try not to be this daddy and daughter, but to be there for each other as friends in the coming years."

In the op-ed piece, Voight says Obama "has grown up with the teaching of very angry, militant white and black people: the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakhan, William Ayers and Rev. Michael Pfleger. We cannot say we are not affected by teachers who are militant and angry. We know too well that we become like them, and Mr. Obama will run this country in their mindset.

"The Democratic Party, in its quest for power, has managed a propaganda campaign with subliminal messages, creating a God-like figure in a man who falls short in every way. It seems to me that if Mr. Obama wins the presidential election, then Messrs. Farrakhan, Wright, Ayers and Pfleger will gain power for their need to demoralize this country and help create a socialist America."

Voight also contends, "If Mr. Obama had his way, he would have pulled our troops from Iraq years ago and initiated an unprecedented bloodbath, turning over that country to the barbarianism of our enemies. ... And while a misleading portrait of Mr. Obama is being perpetrated by a media controlled by the Democrats, the Obama camp has sent out people to attack the greatness of Sen. John McCain, whose suffering and courage in a Hanoi prison camp is an American legend."

Also: "There's not a cell in my body that can accept the idea that Mr. Obama can keep us safe from the terrorists around the world, and from Iran, which is making great strides toward getting the atomic bomb."

Voight concludes, " If, God forbid, we live to see Mr. Obama president, we will live through a socialist era that America has not seen before, and our country will be weakened in every way."

Voight observed to Chen that, in the piece, he "asked what are the qualifications of this man to become president of the United States. I find him wanting, and I expressed some of that and my concerns. ... I sat there and I watched this thing and I just came to a point where I said, 'Boy, somebody's gotta start talking about some of the real stuff.' And that's what I felt and that's what I did."

What concerns Voight most?

"His inexperience and lack of judgment. Some of that is indicated by the friendships and mentors he had growing up. We should be very concerned about it."

Voight says he hasn't heard form either campaign since the piece was published. He told Chen he's gotten "a little angry mail, but I've had a lot of support from the other side of things, too, people who have side they appreciated my stating some of this stuff."

As far as his new grandchildren are concerned, Voight admitted he hasn't made plans to see them though, "I'd like to see them, of course. I was one of the first to look it up on the Web and see what they look like. A very beautiful picture coming out."

and his qualifications to write this piece are???

and cbs has legitimized this and made it news because?? would anyone outside the washington times readership have known about this otherwise? it was published last week. cbs has decided to advance the low-level campaigning techniques the other major media outlets embrace.

the media may have had a liberal bias once upon a time. now they are just bought and paid for corporate shills.

Interesting the blind rage against anyone who speaks ill of Obama. Appears that Obama lovers can''t discuss anything without patterning their comments like the "Rev Wright" Perhaps there is a message there for those undecided voters who are trying to find out if Obama is the real deal he claims to be. He is but the deal you will get is more tearing down of this country. Look around and listen people - Listen to the voices trying to tear down this country with accusations of crimes and abuses that are more apppropriately applied to the very countries these same accusers hold up as ''models'' of what we should become.
There is no way that all the actions of this country over the past 50 plus years can be defended. But lest we forget we have great hindsight and information not available to those in power and making those decisions orginally. Denigrating this country over actions long past or even in relatively recent times does nothing to improve this country - it will only destroy it. The answer is to make certain note of problems and take action to prevent them from reoccurring. Those countries who attack the USA constantly have an agenda - one that includes payback for our failure to bow down to their every demand.

The problem is that the People cant think for themselves about the real reason for this war and its to take there spoils like oil and have a camp near all the rest of the middle east for even more war and more spoils. If Voight and Bush are such patriots, how come neither served their country in Viet Nam?

And what''s wrong with socialism which helps people (Social Security, Medicare [if we took the insurance companies out of it], Workers Comp, etc.)

What we have now is Fascism which is turning this country and world in a mess.

Jon Void you are one dumb no talent. That''s why you can''t and never could get parts in Hollywood. No other reason. So don''t attack a fine patriot and American in trying to get back at your sick perceived notions of Hollywood.

Obama stands for integrity, honesty and peace. Republicans and conservatives stand for hatred, greed and war. The Republican Party has been hijacked by Fascists and right wing nutjobs and is truly now the Dark Side.

They are devoid of any kind of intellectual conservative thought only just lashing out at the president and the media. I thought I would never hear myself say this but I miss Ronald Reagan and Barry Goldwater. They would roll over in their graves if they knew what the GOP had turned into now ! It is nothing but a racist, circus atmosphere that keeps getting more and more bizarre every day ! That is my truth and you can spin how every you want to spin it! I call a spade a spade! those are bot bites the real issue is Obama''s use of hate

Folks get a grip Obama%u2019s campaign is all about the race card just like Bush he is tapping into a under represented fearful angry demographic in the County to turn them out inflame their passions and integrate the electorate with the new non white collective majority that believes they have been oppressed held back in a white world.. The problem is Clinton didn%u2019t call him on it and stood by playing the Party growth sing along while he and the DNC used powerful white people as their foil make no mistake, you just aren%u2019t hearing the dog whistle the CODE cause it%u2019s not intended for your ears, that%u2019s why Obama all of a sudden found policy%u2019s to discuss instead of himself this week, but denial is a bad trait even on a Donkey. Where the Dem Party is no destroyed is they anointed him by cheating not on the merits that was unnecessary and wrong and why his nomination is not the celebration it could have been. Ugly dumb lazy that has harmed the country and escalated division in our communities by inflaming anger fear and hate between these demographics. We all have a role here as McCain did, call the Democrats on this platform of hate and divisiveness they are wrapping in racism and Bush et al used Values. This stuff is rancid lazy cheap and causes violence.
