Purchasing Perfect Pillows
(CBS)
The right pillow can be a big help in getting a good night's sleep.
The luxury Benjamin Hotel in Manhattan knows all about that: It guarantees guests satisfying shuteye - and offers a pillow "menu" with a dozen pillows on it!
On The Early Show Saturday, the hotel's general manager, Andrew Labetti, described some of the more popular pillows on the menu, and shared some tips on getting good zzzs.
Labetti says you should change your pillow every two years and make sure the pillow and pillow cover stay clean. Dirt and dust mites that collect naturally in a pillow can trigger allergies and break down the pillow's support.
He adds that, if your pillow doesn't return to its original shape within a matter of seconds, the fibers have broken down too much and the support has been ruined.
THE FOUR MOST POPULAR PILLOWS, as described by Labetti:
Snore-No-More: Perfect for those who snore and for their spouses, because it reduces snoring to promote a deeper, more restful sleep. Breathing is made easier by elevating the chin from the chest, keeping the jaw forward and the airway open, which makes snoring less likely. Supports and positions the head and neck. Specially designed by a physician to help reduce snoring stemming from poor anatomic alignment of the breathing passage.
Water-Filled: Positions the head and neck naturally for instant relief from headaches and neck pain. By filling this pillow with cool or warm water, guests can create their ideal sleep temperature. They can also customize the firmness of their pillow by regulating the amount of water put inside. This is a completely customized pillow.
Lullaby Sound Pillow: Hotel guests who love falling asleep to their favorite music enjoy this pillow because it provides the soothing sounds without the worry of being tangled in cords. Deeply buried in the hypoallergenic fiberfill of this pillow, ultra-thin speakers create and intimate and soothing sound experience. Any brand of MP3 player or iPod can be easily plugged into the pillow to help lull the guest to sleep.
Swedish Memory (this one is THE most popular!): Provides extensive support for the head and neck, which promotes the perfect night's sleep. Crafted with space-age foam cushioning designed by NASA, this pillow offers unique self-molding characteristics. It reacts to body temperature and contours to the head and neck while increasing weight distribution for maximum support. Its unique design also allows for maximum ventilation and year-round comfort, keeping sleepers cool in the summer and warm in the winter. We recommend this pillow especially for anyone who sleeps on his or her back or side.
