McCain Says He'd Work With Pelosi

Republican Also Says He Agrees With Former VP Gore's Goal On Energy Independence

Some call him a hero, some a maverick. Will Americans call him Mr. President?

(AP)  Republican presidential hopeful John McCain says, if elected, he'd work closely with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, despite her less-than-amicable relationship with current Republican leaders.

"I promise you that I respect her," McCain said in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle. "I will sit down with her when I'm president, and will say 'Let's work together."'

McCain went on to commend Pelosi's effectiveness and call her "one of the great American success stories."

The senator from Arizona also acknowledged the climate change work of former Vice President Al Gore, saying he agreed with Gore's notion that the country could achieve energy independence within 10 years.

"I agree with his goal," McCain said. But, he added, "I may disagree with all the ways of getting there."

While Gore says the nation could achieve energy independence completely through renewable resources, McCain's plan includes reliance on nuclear power and offshore drilling.

Pelosi has suggested that McCain's energy policy is a continuation of the failed efforts of the Bush administration.

A spokesman for Pelosi had no immediate comment Wednesday on McCain's remarks.

Well, Reagan said that he would work with the Russians. And he did. On his own terms. Guided by his own beliefs.

Hopefully McCain will do the same, and with the same effect.

John McCain is still very much the officer and gentleman. He is the decent and honest candidate who plays by the rules. McCain, however, has to be aware that his rival Obama is a fraud who will do or say anything to win this election. Obama will try all the dirty tricks in the book to win.

Why would anyone agree to work with Pelosi when she ''lead'' Congress to its lowest ratings in history? Congress needs new leaders.

Of course he would. McCain has a history of throwing his party under the bus in favor of democrats. And why? It''s not because he''s a bipartisan politician.....it''s because he wants to court leftwing democrats over to his side to help him get elected.

Pelosi, John?? Please, nice to seem compatible with the ineffective Congress, but now you are staring to sound like you are kissing A...

The other thing is the only one bringing up the "race" card is Obama and the Democrats, and they spin it around blaming McCain for their own insecurities. The Democrats, including Congress, have not produced any tangible results in along time inspite of their promises, which does not mean they can''''t, it just means their record is tarnished, too. Supporting a Democrat is a blind ambition, one which can have negative consequences, one that in spite of the "change" everyone speaks of, can be even more unsuccessful and disappointing with an inexperianced and unqualified leader. Think about it.
