Stevens To Be Arraigned On Thursday Afternoon
(The Politico)
Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), indicted on Tuesday for failing to disclose more than $250,000 worth of gifts from an Alaska oil company and its former CEO, will arraigned tomorrow afternoon in a federal courthouse in Washington, D.C.
Judge Emmet G. Sullivan of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia will provide over the session, and Stevens will be interviewed by Pretrial Services officials prior to his 1 p.m. court appearance.
It is unclear if the Justice Dept. will seek any bail for Stevens, although in similar cases involving members of Congress, the lawmakers have been released on their own recognizance.
Stevens has been represented by Brendan Sullivan of the law firm Williams & Connolly. Brendan Sullivan has a reputation as a top trial lawyer with extensive experience in white-collar criminal cases, including defending Ollie North and former HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros. Brendan Sullivan has not returned calls and e-mails seeking comment on the case against Stevens.
