Number Of Suicide Bomb Attacks Carried Out By Women Has More Than Tripled Since Last Year

(CBS)  In Iraq's volatile mix of race, religion and tribal rivalry, police say there's a common denominator in the continuing violence - gender.

According to the U.S. military in Iraq, women have carried the bombs in at least 27 attacks so far this year - more than triple the number of female suicide bombers in all of 2007, reports CBS News correspondent Richard Roth.

A joint assessment by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security obtained by CBS News says the statistics reflect a growing combat role for females, aided by the fact that bombs are easy to hide under traditional women's clothing.

"It's much more difficult to inspect a female Muslim woman than it is a male Muslim because of religious sensitivities," said Steven Emerson, of the Investigative Project on Terrorism.

Iraqi efforts to train and deploy more female police and security guards haven't countered the threat, though policewomen like Rafal Haziem Ali say it's their job to keep trying.

Revenge may have motivated some women bombers, who strapped on explosives after a husband, brother or son died fighting.

But as with the young woman from Gaza who flinched when she tried to detonate her bomb at an Israeli checkpoint and despaired when it failed to go off or the Sri Lankan who sat down in a welfare office and blew herself up, what's happening in Iraq reflects another fact of modern war and terror - there's no enemy deadlier than one bent on suicide, male or female.

When a Muslim declares that Islam is a religion of peace, he/she is either ignorant of the Koran (Qur''an), or is deceitfully thinking of this "peace", as it extends only to those within the Muslim Community. The deceit is that they will not tell you exactly what they mean. According to the Qur''an: "Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah.Those who follow him are merciful to one another, but ruthless to unbelievers" Surah 48:29. "Kill the Mushrikun (unbelievers) wherever you find them, and capture them and besiege them, and lie in wait for them in each and every ambush..." Surah 9:5. Also see Surah 9:29: PICKTHAL: "Fight against such of those who have been given the Scripture (Christians & Jews) as believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, and forbid not that which Allah hath forbidden by His messenger, and follow not the Religion of Truth, until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low.". Please note that there is not a single verse in the entire Christian Bible that contains this "open-ended", universal command to kill/or be ruthless to unbelievers.

Who can really say that woman are the carriers of bombs? Can''t a man simply cover up and disguise himself to be passed off as a woman and make the bombing attacks? Maybe Islamic woman find it strange to know that their days of living as covered packages or human bomb transportors are numbered. Maybe religion may give way to common sense in this case and make covered woman, a thing of the past. Let''s see here.....Who would stand to gain by opposing that kind of change???

Getoffmine...Actually in the 1800''s (during the War of 1812)..The British marched into Washington D.C. and burn''t the original White House down to the ground as well as the rest of the city...The British at that time could have re-taken the United States...but...they had a thorn in their side...a big thorn..."He" was called Napoleon...Without Napoleon to fight...the Brits could have used all those huge armies that Wellington used...to defeat Napoleon (at Waterloo)...against us....At that time if the full might of the British Empire was used against us..we might full well have lost..and the colonies would have been restored to Great Britain....Oh yes...one more thing...The Canadians believe that we lost that war as we did not pursue the "Loyalists" into Canada.
