Iraq: 5 Years At War
Five years after the U.S.-led invasion, the war wears on.
According to the U.S. military in Iraq, women have carried the bombs in at least 27 attacks so far this year - more than triple the number of female suicide bombers in all of 2007, reports CBS News correspondent Richard Roth.
A joint assessment by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security obtained by CBS News says the statistics reflect a growing combat role for females, aided by the fact that bombs are easy to hide under traditional women's clothing.
"It's much more difficult to inspect a female Muslim woman than it is a male Muslim because of religious sensitivities," said Steven Emerson, of the Investigative Project on Terrorism.
Iraqi efforts to train and deploy more female police and security guards haven't countered the threat, though policewomen like Rafal Haziem Ali say it's their job to keep trying.
Revenge may have motivated some women bombers, who strapped on explosives after a husband, brother or son died fighting.
But as with the young woman from Gaza who flinched when she tried to detonate her bomb at an Israeli checkpoint and despaired when it failed to go off or the Sri Lankan who sat down in a welfare office and blew herself up, what's happening in Iraq reflects another fact of modern war and terror - there's no enemy deadlier than one bent on suicide, male or female.

O.K., my interest is peaked! If the Muslim men get 21 virgins what do the Muslim women get? 21 studs? Just curious!
it''s not much different than say, blowing up your refrigerator. Wonder why it took them so long to figure this out.

I would assume either the GOP or Republican Headquarters.
Excellent post....should be repeated until the liberals eyes pop open, if possible.
lol
Giving what you say about Muslims full credibility, what about the fact of all the people who have been killed in the name of christianity ? I think all killing in the name of politics and religion should stop.
These poor poor women, Mohammad said that hell is made up of Muslim women and these women are obviously dying to get there.. or has their husbands/fathers told them to do it, as if they are obedient to their husbands they will make it to paradise, hmmm wonder if they are going to be happy with the beautiful virgins there who their men lust after...
I agree. She did not word it in an appropriate manner. Hopefully it was a mistake and not her intention.
Remember they wear the masks for a reason, replaced the paper bags. U-G-L-Y.

You make a good point and this is why the Russians are criticized for not only taking you out, but your entire bloodline if they can to prevent revenge! The Russians appear to be very experienced in these matters!

Every Iraqi and every home has an AK-47 assault rifle or two in plain view, and the US military is just fine with that, apparently.
DISARM the entire country and make possession of weapons by civilians an instant felony, and then watch the violence drop!
Is it just me that thinks this isn''t terribly odd - and that this "hands off" policy is contributing directly to the amount of violence in Iraq?
It''s insane to occupy a country and then allow the civilians there to legally keep military weapons in their possession - especially when there''s an active "insurgency" hard at work trying to kill our troops.
What a stupid, cowardly, ineffective strategy. Confiscate the guns and destroy them. And keep doing it. At some point anybody having an unauthorized weapon will be recognized as a probable insurgent.
We won''t our own citizens to own such weapons, but in Iraq - a war zone - everybody can legally have one...go figure.
Lets arm every man, woman and child in L.A. with Kalishnikovs and RPG''s, and see if the level of violence doesn''t increase. Good idea? That''s Iraq today.
Do the civilians in other countries under occupation get to keep their military hardware handy for daily use? No. That is generally frowned upon.
So why do we allow it in Iraq? Why not just ban the gun civilian gun ownership, like in England (basically)?
You tell me, smart guy. I''m all ears.
2) One at a time, if need be. In hoards if possible. House by house, gun by gun. Incident by incident. It becomes pervasive - a part of life - everybody knows: no guns - guns mean jail time - they are illegal for civilians to own. Period.

Where is this happening? Apparently you''re living on Pluto. Anyone who "kills" in the name of Christianity has apparently never bothered to pick up the Gospels and read them. Face the real evil in this world:
RADICAL ISLAM. and stop making excuses for it. The more you appease it and pacify it, the worse it will get. For it''s true history and origin, I suggest you go here:
http://bibleprobe.com/muhammad.htm
Not just the US - but ANY country.
Ask the Chinese about their affairs in Tibet, perhaps, if the concept seems foreign to you. Or any one of a hundred other countries on this globe who have been defeated and occupied.
So it has always been, and so it will always be. It''s called War, and the victor gets to do as they wish with the conquered populace, pretty much. Historically, the victors usually disarm their former opponents, to make controlling them less dangerous.
Like it or not; that''s real life. Not your idealistic little daydreams.

They''re already doing what they do best, which is try to associate Christianity into this article, and bash it. It''s what they always do. No matter how many times we hear about ISLAMIC SUICIDE BOMBINGS and mass murders,(which is just about DAILY nowadays) they always bring in their warped moral equivalence of trying to attack Christianity instead, totally ignoring the evil of Islam.
Liberalism is truly a mental disorder, indeed.
The reason they tend to agree with the Muslims and try to "understand" their "culture", is because most liberals are atheists, and they hate Christians and Jews too, just like the Muslims. So it''s easy for them to agree on things.

Who wouldn''t want it to stop? But the fact is there is evil in this world. Islam is an anti-Christ religion. It is pure evil. The longer people fail to recognize this, the worse it will get. Fact is there is Absolute Good and Absolute Evil in this sinful world we live in.
If you want killing for religion to stop, then you''d better get rid of Islam, because that''s exactly what their Quran tells them to do.
Are you now implying that a criminal home-invasion and the military invasion of another country are essentially the same thing? Lol...this must morph into basic "does might make right?" next, huh?
A famous military theorist named Karl von Clausewitz once wrote that "War is an extension of politics, but by other means."
That''s very true. And war is nothing at all like breaking and entering and rape. That comparison does not even apply.
War is the expression of irreconcilable ideological, political and/or cultural differences, not a personal pathological expression of lust and rage.
Conquering always earns you the right to dictate terms thereafter. It always has. I really don''t think that will ever change. It''s man''s true nature.
So...why not just disarm all the Iraqi civilians and only allow Iraqi Police and Military to possess weapons?
By the way, gang-raped is not an activity that most military forces are allowed to engage in - ever. In most countries, that sort of thing will earn a soldier military prison time - and that''s VERY hard time, indeed.
Just to be clear on that particular part of your rather silly comment...
The reason they tend to agree with the Muslims and try to "understand" their "culture", is because most liberals are atheists, and they hate Christians and Jews too, just like the Muslims. So it''''s easy for them to agree on things.

Very well said and very true!
You are obviously very young. Your ad-hominem insults are a dead giveaway, so I''ll just go easy on you
This isn''t about morality any more than it''s about your juvenile sexual fantasies. This is about that most tragic, and inevitable, human condition: war. It happens.
We are already IN Iraq, for whatever reason. We beat them in a war, for whatever reason. And their "civilians" are shooting at our troops daily, for whatever reason, which gives us all the reason that we really need to take away all their guns - at least until they cool down for a few years.
95% of the citizens of Iraq would be absolutely overjoyed if such a gun-ban were imposed. The Iraqi Police and military (who still had their guns) would be delighted too, as would the coalition troops in Iraq.
The only Iraqi''s who would object are those with plans to kill somebody with their guns. There is no hunting in Iraq, after all, and without neighbors WITH guns to defend against, nobody would need guns for anything at all, really.
So, why not ban them?
It''s been done MANY times before - read your history books - disarming a defeated opponent is a normal practice. It''s not expensive, and it does not take years to accomplish.
Most people (even in Iraq) will (believe it or not) obey the law and turn their guns in, once a ban becomes law; the remainder of the guns simply get collected up whenever and where ever they are found. Police forces alone have traditionally been very effective at this.
and only allow Iraqi Police and Military to possess
weapons?

I''m just curious about this statement, I was wondering if this is what Saddam had done to his people? Was he so successful in being a murderous tyrant because his police and military controlled the weapons? I do know that he controlled the elections this way, guns and corruption made sure to keep him in control for decades.
Pertaining to the article, women are chattal for extremists. I''m not surprised they are being used, they are down to hiding weapons on their women. How honorable, I wonder what they get when they go to jihad heaven. Are they a virgin for their earth bound abusers?

If you hate Muslims so much why do you continue to support the defense of this Muslim Nation?? Sieg Heil Bush
I''m just curious, too; do YOU think that, with US troops on the ground there, the US should allow the citizens of Iraq to legally own and carry personal "military-grade" automatic weapons freely and openly?
Is an grenade launcher or a fully automatic assault rifle really a good weapon for simple home defense?
Being a part of the US military, I actually know the answer to the question as to why it''s been condoned - but I''m amazed that nobody else here seems to have a clue - it''s info that''s long been in the public domain - no big secret.
Does it make sense to you, to allow this, when we could easily stop it? (It''s actually not too difficult to achieve, and it has been done routinely in past conflicts).
