Coburn Checked For Irregular Heartbeat

By Daniel W. Reilly

(The Politico)  Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) is undergoing tests at a Washington-area hospital Friday for an irregular heartbeat that he began experiencing Thursday night, his aides revealed on Friday.

Coburn was not admitted to the hospital, his spokesman John Hart told Roll Call, and is expected to return to the Senate for its Saturday session.

“He is at the hospital having tests for common arrhythmia. He has not been admitted to the hospital and expects to return tomorrow,” Coburn's spokesman John Hart told the newspaper.

The 60-year old senator, who is also a doctor, has has survived colon cancer and melanoma.

It is an exceptionally busy time for the Oklahoma Republican, as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced recently he was bundling 35 bills that the fiscally conservative Coburn has objected to into a massive "Coburn omnibus" package.

Earlier in the week Reid threatened to hold the Senate in session over the weekend to vote on the package, however, it now appears a vote will come on the bills early next week.
