(AP)  Democrat Barack Obama said Friday that Iran should promptly accept an international call to freeze its uranium enrichment program, which some nations see as a potential step toward obtaining nuclear weapons.

The presidential candidate met with French President Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris, where they discussed Iran, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, climate change and other issues.

Speaking later at a news conference, Obama said Iran should accept the proposals made by Sarkozy and other Western leaders. He urged Iran's leaders not to wait for the next U.S. president to push them "because the pressure, I think, is only going to build."

The United States and other Western nations accuse Iran of seeking to acquire nuclear weapons and demand that it freeze its uranium enrichment program. Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.

Obama said that he and Sarkozy agreed that Iran poses "an extraordinarily grave situation." He said the world must send "a clear message to Iran to end its illicit nuclear program."

Obama said: "My expectation is that we're going to present a clear choice to Iran: change your behavior and you will be fully integrated into the international community with all the benefits that go with that. Continue your illicit nuclear program and the international community as a whole will ratchet up pressure with stronger and increased sanctions. And we should have no illusion that progress will come easily."

Obama is in the midst of a weeklong tour of the Middle East and Europe as the first-term U.S. senator seeks to burnish his international credentials for the general election campaign against Republican rival Sen. John McCain. The trip began with a campaign-season tour of the war zones in Iraq and Afghanistan and ends with meetings with old allies France and Britain.

Obama also told reporters that "Afghanistan is a war we have to win." The Taliban and terrorist groups it supports, he said, pose an unacceptable threat to the U.S., France and other nations.

"We've got to finish the job," said Obama, who often has said the Iraq war was an unwise move that distracted the United States from efforts to find Osama bin Laden and other terrorist leaders and to root out the Taliban forces in Afghanistan.

Sarkozy said he agreed that the Taliban must be defeated in Afghanistan, where French troops are part of a multinational force.

The joint news conference had many light moments, as the two men recalled their 2006 meeting in Washington, before Sarkozy was elected president. Obama said the only other U.S. senator who Sarkozy visited on that trip was McCain, now the presumed Republican nominee for president.

Obama urged U.S. political reporters to seek Sarkozy's insight because "he seems to have a good nose for how things play out."

Sarkozy wished Obama luck, but did not endorse him. He said it was up to Americans to choose their president.

Over enthusiasm from the point of righteous political interests without extending support for troops by not visiting them is a direct insult to America. Obama is not ready to lead, not ready to change, not ready to be a commander, he is only ready to toot his own horn. That is not "Service to Americans" that is AUDACITY.

Hello everyone,
As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to ''The War Zone''. I wanted to share with you what happened.
He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram.
As the Soldiers were lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and didn''t say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General. As he finished, the vehicles took him to the ClamShell (where military personnel can play basketball or work out in with weights) so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball. He again shunned the opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service.
So really he was just here to make a showing for the American''s back home that he is their candidate for President. I think that if you are going to make an effort to come all the way over here you would thank those that are providing the freedom that they are providing for you.
I just don''t understand how anyone would want him to be our Commander-and-Chief.If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but I wanted you all to know what kind of person he really is. What you see in the news is all fake.

Thanks for your Post. Not making excuses for Sen. Obama but his Secret Service security detail was just increased to 8! Things are not always as they appear, we don''t know what his security instructions are or were on that trip. I have seen video of Sen. Obama engaged with our troops up close and personal. It was probably time issues, security issues, who knows, but the cameras were rolling and I''m sure Sen. Obama didn''t diss you for no good reason.

The U.S. Senate soon could debate whether you, your spouse and each of your children %u2013 as well as
your in-laws, parents, grandparents, neighbors and everyone else in America %u2013 each will spend $2,500 or more to reduce poverty around the world. The plan sponsored by Sen. Barack Obama, the presumptive

Barack Obama

S.2433 already has been approved in one form by the U.S. House of Representatives and now has been placed on the Senate Legislative Calendar for pending debate.

WND previously reported the proposal demands the president develop "and implement" a policy to "cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015 through aid, trade, debt relief" and other programs.

Cliff Kincaid at Accuracy in Media has published a critique asserting that while the Global Poverty Act sounds nice, the adoption could "result in the imposition of a global tax on the United States" and would make levels of U.S. foreign aid spending "subservient to the dictates of the United Nations."

"He ventured forth to bring light to the world"

"The anointed one''s pilgrimage to the Holy Land is a miracle in action - and a blessing to all his faithful followers"

by Gerard Baker

"And it came to pass, in the eighth year of the reign of the evil Bush the Younger (The Ignorant), when the whole land from the Arabian desert to the shores of the Great Lakes had been laid barren, that a Child appeared in the wilderness.

The Child was blessed in looks and intellect. Scion of a simple family, offspring of a miraculous union, grandson of a typical white person and an African peasant. And yea, as he grew, the Child walked in the path of righteousness, with only the occasional detour into the odd weed and a little blow."

The reason I%u2019m replying to your post is that you have blatantly disobeyed an direct order by participating in a election campaign, directly, or indirectly, while in a military environment. If you felt that this blog needed to know YOUR opinion of Sen. Obama, you should have left yourself anonymous. He was asked by the Pentagon NOT to visit the troops!
Obama did visit our troops in both Afghanistan and Iraq, as part of a delegation with 2 other U.S. Senators (one Democrat and one Republican). That part of the trip was considered an official Senate visit. The European part of the trip is being paid for by his campaign, and the Pentagon told him it would be inappropriate for him to visit the troops as part of a campaign stop! He followed the Pentagon''s wishes! If he went anyway, even after being asked by the Pentagon not to, then that would have been a sign of AUDACITY! If you don''t want to vote for Obama , fine, that is your right, but you are making much ado about nothing!

WellHell3.....Yes a member of the Armed Services has Constitutional rights just like any American, but we have stricter ethics that we must abide by. Have you ever seen A Soldier in uniform in any of the candidates tv adds? Let me answer that for you; NO! We can participate in any campaign event we want to, just as long as we attend it in civilian attire, and not use our military titles when expressing opinions of the US Government.

And last I heard a citizen of the United States, including a soldier has the right to speak their mind at any time, just like I do.
Posted by WellHell3

Actually, that is not exactly true! This is from an article on that subject from Slate :

"Are Army personnel free to publicize their opinions?
Yes, as long as they clear a security review. According to Army regulations (PDF), soldiers must consult with their immediate supervisor and their operations-security officer before disseminating articles, Web-site postings, or other statements in a public forum."

additional info from that same article, regarding soldiers free speech rights:

"What happens if a soldier publishes an article that fails to comply with operations-security policies? He''ll most likely be punished for disregarding an order under Article 92 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. If the writer is a commissioned officer, and his article is especially hard on the president, vice president, secretary of defense, or another government executive, then he might be accused of using "contemptuous words" against an official and charged under Article 88. Either way, there''s a good chance the outspoken serviceman will face a court-martial."

WellHell3,

Since you want to continue to argue about Obama''s canceled stop at a military hospital, check out this from CNN about McCain:

"With Department of Defense rules prohibiting political campaigning on military bases, it was determined that in some cases McCain could visit the installations as a senator but could not engage in any political activity.."

McCain campaign officials said Thursday they intentionally did not campaign on military property.

"We follow the rules," said senior McCain adviser Steve Schmidt."

Obama canceled his visit because the trip to Germany was paid by his campaign, and the Pentagon told his advisers that it would be considered a political event, and therefore is prohibited! You might not like it, but those are the rules! If Obama said to hell with it , I''m going anyway, you''d be the first to complain that he was breaking the rules!

Obama is a wimp compared to GW Bush and John McCain. Iran''s mullahs are probably doing Obama impressions and laughing their @sses off! Ha ha ha ha ha! Somehow, I cannot see terrorists fearing Barack Obama. They KNOW he won''t invade Iran, no matter what they do! If Obama were elected president, Iran would take that as a green light on their nuclear program. By the time we have "proof" enough for Obama that Iran is developing nukes, Israel will be incinerated. That''s not a future I''m willing to allow.

I can''t believe he wasted leverage on shoring up his wimpiness. Now what are we going to use if they start doing more bomb tests to ratchet up the price of oil so they can withstand more economic sanctions? :(

So what''s the deal anyway - is that correct that Russia and China have been providing Iran with nuclear materials and in turn they get a sweet deal on oil? Maybe Barack should have shored up our relationship with them first - otherwise how''s his negotiation approach any different from Bush and Condi? His bargaining position''s even worse because we''re going to be withdrawing from the region and because he''s not trigger-happy . . . anybody else not feeling to confident about ability to drive a hard bargain? :(

PS It says in the French newspapers that they''re feeling snubbed and don''t really get why Barack spent the whole day in Germany meeting with their defense minister and he gave a speech there and all they got was an afternoon. And they''re all like why''s he not even giving England as much time as Germany given that Blair even sent troops to Iraq. What''s with that?

Obama is delusional if he thinks he''s going to stop Iran from obtaining the enrichment cycle. It is painfully obvious that he does not understand Iran or its history. Regarding Iran, it has a legal right to the enrichment cycle under the nonproliferation treaty; a treaty America is in violation of, and which Israel will not sign on. So I ask, is Obama truly so ignorant as to take up yet another of Bush''s neo-con agendas? I guess he is. Wake the hell up, America. Obama is a fraud.

Free Concert by Popular Band Preceded Obama%u2019s Big Rally

From CNN to the New York Times, the media hyped Barack Obama''s Portland, Oregon rally, some comparing him to a rock star.
Unmentioned in national reporting was the fact that Obama was preceded by a rare, 45-minute free concert by actual rock stars The Decemberists.

By ignoring the free concert, the Times and other outlets made it appear that 75,000 people were drawn only by Sen. Obama''s considerable charisma.

I''m hoping Barack''s popularity will allow us to sort of force McCain/GOP to ''bargain down'' so the neocons don''t have so much say in foreign affairs and the incompetent capitalists who have pillaged the national economy don''t get to dictate economic policy to suit only their needs at others'' expenses.
