Take An Energy-Saver Tour Of Your House!

Danny Lipford Shows How You Could Spot Easy Ways To Save $500 A Year Or More

(CBS)  Taking a walk through your home with an eye toward conserving energy can save hundreds of dollars a year.

Home improvement expert Danny Lipford toured one house on The Early Show Saturday and found numerous potential energy-wasters. He also demonstrated simple solutions he says could save the average homeowner $500 a year or more!

The savings could come to a-quarter of your total utilities bill, and cost you next-to-nothing.

Among them:

Turn your thermostat down four degrees in winter or up four degrees in summer to save -- $110

Change fifurnace lters every three months

Clean your lint filters and vent pipe of your clothes dryer to save

Use your clothes washer and dishwasher only with full loads to save

Turn your water heater down to 120 degrees and wrap all exposed hot water lines to save

Close drapes and blinds from windows exposed to the sun

Be sure all windows and doors are properly caulked and weather-sealed

Total savings in one year based on a national average utility bill of $1900: $500
