Experts: 15,000 More Babies Born In 2007 Than Peak Of Baby Boom Due To Population Increase

(AP)  More babies were born in the United States last year than ever before, according to preliminary data, but it's not another baby boom just yet.

About 4,315,000 children were born in 2007, about 15,000 more births than the peak time of the baby boom in 1957, said Stephanie Ventura, a demographer at the National Center for Health Statistics, which compiled the data from provisional birth certificate registrations at state health departments.

"According to our provisional data, we had the highest number of births ever reported in 2007," she said.

But this doesn't mean there's a baby boom under way. In the mid-'50s about as many babies were being born from a lot fewer women.

"What this really reflects is that the population has grown so much in the United States, so you naturally expect more births," Ventura said. "It's hard to call this a baby boom at this point."

Years leading up to 2007 showed slight increases in the number of births, not the substantial growth of the baby boom years, which were 1946 through 1964, Ventura said.

Isn''t it ironic to note that Planned Parenthood was designed by a "white" woman to "help" all those "colored" women from having so many babies...

I would bet that a large portion of these ''births'' are to illegal aliens. They convieniently decided to leave that detail out, so not to enrage the American Public with that FACT, since the funding to pay for these free health care births and after care to the illegals comes from our taxes and Social Security, while the costs of actually having a child in the hospital has an average of $30K and up price tag if there is no problems during the birth, or with the baby, to an American. What a wonderful Gov''t we have. I wonder what it would take to get that kind of lifestyle? Oh, thats right, just need to become a politician or an illegal...then you get the free ride.

I know being responsible that I can only afford the 3 children we have combined. If I had more it would hurt us financially.
My husband has 2 and we have 1. He makes $20/ hr and many would say we could afford more but a responsible person looks at college funds, cars when 16, emergency funds and much more.
This boom may be alot of smart people that waited until they were stable until having children. But I am sure that alot of illegals, legal immigrants that can hide income (common in the eastern states, iraqi''s, lebanese, and most middle eastern)have the most to do with the boom. Most americans know they can only HANDLE so many kids verses AFFORD them.
You say these illegal children will help our s.s. fund. Good luck, where''s their s.s. cards? They will work under the table as well their whole lives. I guess their employers will foot the bill if they are honest and not audited. And On And On And On,,, more american jobs taken for scabs!!!!

I work in the healthcare industry and I see more than enough for the illegals abuse the social service in this country. I see more hispanic mothers with 4-5 kids and are pregnant and on welfare than any other race. Why? they think that they are entitle to enjoy on the blood, sweat, and tears of the hard working Americans
