Authorities allege that 54-year-old Chaudhry Rashid argued with his daughter, then choked her to death. The homicide occurred just after 3 a.m. at the family house in Jonesboro.
Rashid was placed in the Clayton County Jail. His first court appearance had been scheduled for Monday but was postponed until Tuesday.
At that proceeding, Chief Magistrate Daphne Walker learned Rashid's primary language is Urdu, according to The Atlanta Journal Constitution. Walker said an interpreter will be brought in to help with the judicial proceedings.
According to a police report, Kanwal was forced into an arranged marriage in Pakistan a few years ago. Police say Kanwal wanted to leave her husband, which angered her father.
Police say Kanwal's husband now lives in Chicago.

- Actually if the husband came on a marriage visa and has not completed his required three years for residency, it is a good chance he will be deported.

- There are extremists in every religion and belief system. When you group all people of a certain religion together and spout hateful words about them, you become equals with them. You are no better then the people you talk ***** about. hate for others is a reflection of the hate you have for yourself

- No doubt the defense attorney will use as the mitigating argument and excuse for this man''s action as being based on cultural heritage and barbaric beliefs. It is shameful that these so-called honor killings continue. There is nothing honorable about them and I hope this man gets the death penalty. If a person is in this country they had better honor and obey our laws, which trump their own. It would be the same situation in any other country.

- Only the TERM was borrowed from that region you idiot...no Iranians, Iraqi''s and Pakistanis! Europeans, some N Africans...
"Anthropologist Johann Blumenbach, Meiners contemporary, stated, "to this first variety [Caucasians] belong the inhabitants of Europe (except the Lapps and the remaining descendents of the Finns) and those of Eastern Asia, as far as the river Obi, the Caspian Sea, and the Ganges; and lastly, those of North Africa" - Reply to this comment
- I googled this story and I found out that the girl Sandeela filed for divorce on July 1st. That may be the motive why Chaudry killed Sandeela. Read: http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/clayton/stories/2008/07/08/clayton_daughter_killed.html
All I know is, after all said and done here today, I will pray for this girl and hope that she gets the justice that she deserves, nobody should ever be taken away like that over such brutality. May Allah bless her soul. Lastly, I hope the Imams teach their muslim men some sense and help keep people like Sandeela protected from monsters. - Reply to this comment
