Battle For Iraq
The government, the insurgency, key players, background and photos.
But you wouldn’t know it looking at the dingy emergency room of the Kahdimiyah Hospital.
U.S. Army doctors say it’s one of the best in the city - yet it lacks the most basic supplies.
“I am talking about IV fluids - I’m talking about strong antibiotics,” one doctor said in English.
Anaesthetic is also lacking. One man had his foot stitched up with nothing to kill the pain but his son’s embrace.
“How do you reconcile the fact that we know that Iraq has many billions of dollars of oil money waiting to be spent?” Palmer asked.
“I don't know how to answer that,” the doctor said. “I don't know.”
Bassim Sharif does. He’s a Member of Parliament on the Health Oversight Committee.
“There is a corruption in Iraq and the corruption is widespread,” he said.
But corruption is only part of the problem. Political in-fighting also is squeezing Iraq’s health budget -- so much that only $68 was available per person.
Compare that to, for example, $650 per person in Mexico and $2,547 in the United States.
“We used up our whole drugs budget in the first six months of this year,” Bassim said.
In Khadimiyah Hospital, a young girl is rushed in - wounded in a mortar attack.
But security has improved so much that war trauma patients like this are now the exception.
But the beds are still full, and medical staff who thought better security would let them deliver better care are bitter.Blog: How lacking Baghdad hospital care touched a CBS News producer
“I am so hurt that my patients are suffering and can't do anything for them for lack of simple things that are available in every country in the world,” one doctor said.
Simple, critical things doctors know Iraq’s oil money could so easily buy.

LOL - WE SHOULD PAY FOR THEIR HEALTH CARE, MORE THAN HALF THE PATIENTS ARE WAR CASUALTIES
When Millions From Oil Flow Out Of Iraq Every Day, Why Are So Many Citizens Suffering?"
The notion that, Millions From Oil Flow Out Of Iraq Every Day goes li''l bit deeper than present times.
If I had to say, this had been going on well before Iran/Iraq gulf war.
Decision makers of destiny & well being of Iraqis were not kind to People of Iraq. While it will go beyond my apprehension to name, the names of wrong doers.
But,I do know that, whom ever tried to take initiatives to protect human rights of Iraqis,he was ridiculed, blamed, tormented & and those fancy words in line with this type of condem-nation,refer Li''l Oxford dictionary.
One example, possibly so obvious is George Galoway Oil for food was tyranny than, now it is death for Oil.
But, we must respect the veteran-ary International Politics & International Relations Henry Kissenger.
He is of the opinion & precption & rightly so,
That, Plight of Iraq might have been seen very bad,But good thing is regional players are engaged in dialogue, Thats How NWO will take shape.
So, where is the problem in understanding?,that the New World Order will cripple small & Big Governments alike,to surrender their National aspirations, or face devastation.
"That is the unipolar world power concept is all about", Do you think American single moms are getting any good package, I don''t think so.
But corruption is only part of the problem. Political in-fighting also is squeezing Iraq%u2019s health budget -- so much that only $68 was available per person.
-I suggest Dr. Haider Rashid, to ask the Million dollar Iraqi propsectors searching the North American States and Canada for deals in Real Estate, in properties for sale and other commercial opportunities. There is a lotta money flowing into Iraq from USA, mainly over the Army, but thare are more flowing out of Iraq, a blessing of the European and North American Governments/organizations...

They didn''t destroy their country--it was done for them, they had no choice.

What planet are you from and where have you been for the past 6.5 years?
The war "stopped going well" shortly after Bush hung mission accomplished sign on that carrier. It''s been downhill ever since.
It doesn''t matter if, tomorrow, Iraq has 100 model citizens and begins to repay its debts. The failure is 5.5 years old already. That particular humpty dumpty fell off the wall 5+ year ago.
Everything since then has just been rethugnicans using sophistry to save face.
Of course it hasn''t worked, but it''s amusing to watch nonetheless.

We will have won nothing at all in Iraq--Bush doesn''t have control of the oil yet--that was the only thing the terrorist in the White House wanted to win.
Why would anyone like you be concerned with the well being of anyone? You have the typical repuklican conscience!
%u201CThere is a corruption in Iraq and the corruption is widespread,%u201D he said.
Well at least they learned something from the Bush administration. How to steal their own people''s money.

This war is what it''s always been, a war to make rich people richer, even at the cost of the blood of tens of thousands Iraqi civilians and of more then 4000 of our troops. This war is and was about blood money alone.
Hypocrites.. All who voted these people in you should be ashamed of all the people that have been killed by you yes you yea ***
Nice, huh?
The Iraqi''s can have universal health care, courtesy of the American taxpayers, but the American tax payers can''t.
IRLIBERAL: Yes you liberal....and stoopid.
ainttaken: You aint smart either.
SRGTRDS10-4: Youre a punk and a crybaby. 10-4 overand out.

Amen brother. This site is overrun by libs. Their like cockroaches. I don''t even bother trying to argue with them. I just kind of blast them a little bit to kind of "thin out the herd".
I really hope they are kids posting for fun and not adults.
To Al Queda and all other Islamic terrorists in Iraq, indeed it is.

Iraq did not attack us and there was no al-qaeda in Iraq until after our invasion of them. Even then the so-called al-qaeda in Iraq is nothing more then Iraq rebels trying to kick us out who have associated themselves with the real al-qaeda that did attack us on 9-11 to give themselves some credibility. None of which changes the fact that Bush invaded Iraq because war is very profitable for those who bought and paid for his election. This war never was and still isn''t about fighting Bush''s "war on terror".

Boo hoo hoo. The RINOs screeched and shouted down everybody who questioned their motive for 6 years and when it get thrown back into their faces they cry like sissies. Too bad.

Then they cry, "boo hoo hoo! It wasn''t our fault!" Except they were all about claiming the credit when things were looking rosy for them. What a hoot.
Um, read the story next time. "The White House said Monday it did not believe al-Maliki was proposing a rigid timeline for U.S. troop withdrawals" not the Iraq government.

Do you have any specific problems with the information presented in this story? If so, what? Do you dispute the facts? Which ones?

The Bush, Cheney, Scooter, Rove retirement plan. These guys really planned ahead because they knew they would be out of office some day.
Dont let the Bush Administration be involved in any aspect of this because they will over charge and mis-manage the entire process. The Bush Administration are PROs at doing this.

Yes, because YOUR post with name-calling was sooooo profound. Thanks for the brilliant insights, Professor.

No, we''ve just had our economy crippled. Were you living in a cave when the terrorists said they would not attack us physically, but instead attack us where it matters most - by waging war on our economy? I''d say, with almost a trillion dollars being flushed down the toilet in Iraq by our president, and our country in the depths of recession, they''re winning that one, sport.
Posted by cbville70 at 11:56 PM : Jul 08, 2008
We were also not attacked from 1994-2001. So you would agree, then, that Bill Clinton a great job as well? Last time I checked 9-11 happened on GWB''s watch.

- Where were all these people when he got "elected" a second time? Where was all this common sense when you had an opportunity to PREVENT this *** from happening. I am Canadian and have been steadily loosing faith in my southern neighbors since I learned to read. For a country which goes on and on about freedom, most Canadians are shocked at how little freedom you guys actually seem to have. I wish things werent like this, America should be setting an example for the rest of the world. Its really a shame.

When you saw the numbers come up that Kerry "lost" by a few thousand votes. The intelligent people were the ones who put him within that close distance. Unfortunately, I guess their are more morons in this country then educated voters. The Bush Regime also have one HELL of a propaganda machine going on not only here in the U.S. but around the world.
Personally, my wife and I were in Britain (looking to flee the ignorance) during the 2004 election. We voted with an absentee ballet just to make sure there were two more votes against this crime ring. Then we flew over and got to hear how stupid and hypocritical the rest of the world REALLy thinks America is.
