(CBS/AP)  Hurricane Bertha has strengthened to a Category 3 storm.

The Atlantic season's first hurricane is still far from land, but the National Hurricane Center says it now has maximum sustained winds of 115 miles an hour.

The center of the storm is located about 730 miles east-northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands and about 1,150 miles southeast of Bermuda.

It's still to early to tell whether Bertha will hit the island, but forecasters urged residents to monitor the storm's progress.

Forecasters say it's moving west-northwest at about 12 miles an hour.

You are Right but I think you are a little early. Bertha is not going to hit the USA its going to head NW and weekend and die. jboxton I think we will have to wait until late August or Mid September or when we get to around J or M in the Alaphabet then we will get a strong Gulf of Mexico Hurricane and then New Orleans will get hit again this year.

Say, why no more stories on our midwest that has been hit over and over again. Oh yea, no shootings, rapings, looting or such, that''''s why.

Does the midwest contain ghettos like New Orleans? What do you expect when there is no law in this type of area?

Is it time to start fretting over New Orleans yet?? Say, why no more stories on our midwest that has been hit over and over again. Oh yea, no shootings, rapings, looting or such, that''s why.
I bet Bobby Jindal will do a heck of a better job than blanco if it does hit.

Here it comes again. All the dolts in the south are going to stick around playing banjo on their porches and be caught off guard when this hurricane hits. It happens every year, and every year they are too busy "chewin'' tabakki an'' hootin'' an'' a hollerin''" to prepare. Good for ''em.

Bertha is getting mad and is a Cat 3. Unless she gets her Hair and Nails did she is going to turn into a BrideZilla and become a Cat 5.

What if this hurricane does hit Washington. Will our leaders have to live in those Fema trailers?
