Black Conservative Group Rips Obama

Washington Post: Radio Ads Call Democratic Candidate A Racist And An Elitist

A look at the life and meteoric rise of the president-elect.

From Our Partner:
(Washingtonpost.com)  This story was written by Darryl Fears in washingtonpost.com's blog The Trail.

From the black conservatives who brought you radio ads two years ago claiming that the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Republican come the new summer blockbusters: ads calling Sen. Barack Obama a racist and an elitist.

King, of course, was an independent, not a Republican -- but that didn't stop the National Black Republican Association (NBRA) from airing their claim on urban radio. Now spots entitled "Arrogant Obama" and "Bitter Obama" are coming to radio stations serving black America, where more than 90 percent of voters supported Obama in Democratic primaries. The NBRA ads will begin airing July 7 in battleground states, according to the group's chair.

The mudslinging injects the issue of race into the presidential campaign with a ferocity unseen thus far. In voiceovers, a narrator claims that much of the Democratic Party is comprised of white racists who will never vote for Obama. The ads ignore the party's 40-year transformation from being a haven for southern Dixiecrats who blocked black progress to a haven for black voters who've helped put the vast majority of black elected officials into office, including, potentially, the first black president.

Here's a sample of what you might hear on your radio: "Bitter is what Obama called blacks and whites who love God. Racist is what Obama called his white grandmother who raised him and made sacrifices so Obama could get a good education and become a millionaire," says the narrator one of the spots.

"Obama's mentor for 20-years was Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who said innocent Americans deserved to die on September 11th," says the voiceover in another.

What Obama actually said about some Pennsylvanian voters: " ... It's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them ..." And, during his race speech in Philadelphia, of his grandmother: "I can no more disown him [the Rev. Wright] than I can disown my white grandmother -- a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me . . . but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed her by on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe."

The NBRA is led by Frances Rice of Sarasota, Fla., a former Army officer and avowed conservative. Her tactics have led other black Republicans to quit the organization. Christopher Arps, a former spokesman, left the group after disagreeing with Rice about strategy.

"Anyone with any sense knows that most black people were Republican at one time," Arps said when the ad ran two years ago. "But it's a far stretch to think that in the '60s Martin Luther King was a Republican."

Arps said Rice's actions were counterproductive to the NBRA's goal of drawing more African Americans to the Republican Party.

Judging by some reactions, the Obama ads might also be a hindrance. "I'm confused as to why any African American would be a Republican in this day and age," says Missouri state Rep. Robin Wright-Jones, a Democrat. "I don't remember Obama saying any of that in a speech."

NBRA = Sell out. Ditto for Log Cabin Republicans. That little voice in the back of your head is your conscious telling you that greed does not trump the truth. Let us know when you''re ready for confession.

" Black Republican Conservative" has to be almost as big as an oxymoron as military intelligence. I think the Republicans showed how tthey felt about Blacks when the candidates always made excuses not to show up when invited to speak at such conventions like the Urban League and NAACP. I think only Huckabee showed at one and even President Bush said that it was a shame and Republicans had an image problem with African Americans. If you look at the civil rights bills back in the 60''s it always the conservatives that didn''t want change. They still don''t yet these folks want to be called conservatives. HAH. I''ve always said that not all conservatives are racists, BUT all racists are conservatives.

Funny thing is when this country gets a black president, black people won''t have anything to complain about. They''ll have to take a good long look in the mirror.

When the republcan party feels it will suffer public relations problems, they outsource their dirty work to some of the fringe elements. It is always good for the parties involved. The republican party keeps its hands clean and the fringe element gets its `5 seconds of fame/

"...judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character..."

frankly, that DOES sound Republican. Democrats are the ones who are so busy categorizing everyone according to their race, gender & creed. You think Clarence Thomas, Condoleeza Rice, or Colon Powell advanced within the conservative ranks because of the color of their skin - or their gender? No, it was clearly based on their qualifications...

Wake UP Black America - liberals don''t think you''re capable of caring for yourselves... liberals only want you as their livestock so they can feed off your votes.... liberals don''t care that what they offer is perpetuated misery while they pretend to be your friend... what have liberals REALLY done for you? Republicans believe you are capable of pulling your own weight... we don''t offer excuses... we don''t offer reparations... we don''t offer anything - except dignity, freedom, & hope for a better tomorrow.

"Sen. Barack Obama a racist and an elitist."
Of course he is, you can see it in that "smirk" look on his face.

What I don''t see in his face is a real concern for the U.S.A.

He doesn''t welcome or promise change, he threatens it.

I was going to vote for him because I too wanted change, but now because I''m a VET, I''m going to place my faith in a VET.

You offer a $10 trillion national debt, a $3 trillion war, and the promise of more of the same. I would vote for the ''party of small government'' if it would, just once, actually act the part. As it is:

I''ll take a tax and spend liberal over a dont tax and spend conservative. I know which one is throwing my kids the finger, and I''ll bet most Americans know the same (finally, after 30 years).

''Republicans dont offer excuses!'' LOL!!

Gotten you elected to office, registered you to vote, given you a voice, listened to your concerns, acted on your behalf. Pretty much without Liberals, Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, all people of color would be second class citizens.

The Republican party of today is based on the immoral philosophies of the racist Dixiecrats, who fled the Dem party in the late 60''s because the Dem party wanted to support civil rights. Strom Thurman, Jesse Helms, those are the founders of the modern Republican party. Racists and bigots and hate mongers who fled the Dem party and recreated the Republican party in their vile image.

---"From the black conservatives who brought you radio ads two years ago claiming that the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Republican come the new summer blockbusters: ads calling Sen. Barack Obama a racist and an elitist"---

''Black Republicans'' seem to me to be kind of the flipside to the ''Antiwar Military'' . . . people''s knee-jerk reaction is to reject people who don''t fit into society''s neat little boxes.

That being said, I don''t think it''s objectively true that Barack is racist based on the ''evidence'' these guys put forth - I think the objective truth is that Barack has been the recipient of racism, stereotyping, close-mindedness, and resistance to change and that he''s responded like anybody of any color would to being treated in that manner.

I''d be interested to hear how more about how racism has impacted the lives of these two black conservatives to put their assessments of Barack into greater context. I''d also be interested to know where they stand on affinity groups formed based on common ground and shared interests . . .

Then you never really wanted much change cause your voting to keep in place all the Bush policies and programs and failures.

I''m a VET too but I''m smart enough to vote based on the man not the uniform. McCain was part of Keating 5, the group that defrauded the government and caused the Savings and Loan collapse that cost millions of Americans their life savings. McCains "straight talk" express doesn''t seem to have any tracks, it just kind of wanders around and says what ever the people want to hear on the day.

How can Missouri Rep. Robin Wright-Jones, say that "I don''t remember Obama saying any of that in a speech"? Does she not have a TV or radio? I believe that people are finally realizing that the Emperor has no clothes on, though it is difficult to admit that to one''s self (hard for me to finally admit it, because originally, I was going to vote for the guy! But now, no way). Let me say that I hope and pray that we have a black President someday soon. We are waaaaaaay overdue having a black President. But, please!!! Obama is not the person. Oh, my God! If only Gen. Colin Powell ran for President I think I would quit my job and go work with him on his campaign; Colin Powell is brilliant. Barack Obama is a public relations creation who has neither experience nor good judgement.

What do they have, like 4 members??

"I''m confused as to why any African American would be a Republican in this day and age," says Missouri state Rep. Robin Wright-Jones,

1. If they''re an idiot
2. If they''re whitewashed
3. If they''re a sell out
4. If they think the republican party of the 1800s is the same as the Republican party today.
5. They''re insane?
6. Um, I can''t think of any other reasons...

Dear stupid liberal - do yourself a favor & look up what leading Democrats (including Bill & Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, Nancy Pelosi, and many many more) thought about Saddam Hussein''s suspected WMDs under President Clinton''s Presidency. Then look up what Bill Clinton has repeatedly implied with regard to going into Iraq post 9/11...

then, Mr. Stupid liberal - you might have a better understanding that goes beyond the liberal mantras taught to you....

The truth will set you free! An oddity is the assertion from Missouri state Rep. Robin Wright-Jones, a Democrat that "..."I''m confused as to why any African American would be a Republican in this day and age...I don''t remember Obama saying any of that in a speech." Isn''t it interesting the selective hearing some Obama myopics have? Sounds to me like subtle coercion through inference that any black automatically must be a Democrat and therefore could never possibly be a Republican. "Some" also prefer controlling others in what they say, think and do. Remember when some blacks were pressuring and even threatening with bodily harm super-delegates to change their "allegiance" from Hillary Clinton to Barack Obama? Politics makes strange bed-fellows indeed! And nothing but silence from Obama and his lemmings and jackals.

is it me, or is it crazy lunacy to call a black man, raised in a single parent home, biracial, subjected to the prejudices of both white folks and black folks, it is just nuts to be calling this man a racist and an elitist? pardon my awe over this, but Obama was running against a white woman who never lived NEAR anyone of low socioeconomic status, and he is now running against an incredibly wealthy WASP, Obama himself has experienced what a lot of average Americans have, including myself, poor parents, paid my own way through college and graduate school (ask me about my loans!!!), budgeting and rebudgeting to make ends meet, so please, tell me, how this can possibly be declared without completely invalidating those who make such claims!?!?!

interesting tactic - I lay out clear proof that leading liberals went absolutely ON RECORD stating exactly, precisely, almost verbatim the case to say that Saddam had WMDs while under the Clinton Administration.... proving in no uncertain terms that if this were indeed, as the liberal mantra machine would assert, a case of ''Bush lied, Bush lied....'' than by a very basic rule of logic one would have to conclude that those leading Democrats also lied repeatedly in the exact same fashion on the exact same subject matter...

...and you simply ignore that fact & go on about repeating your mantras...

very telling of you and many liberals.

...yet another point of liberal hypocrisy. For SOME reason, they see blacks as one monolythic entity - a key indicator of their racist belief system. It seems interesting that liberals have some kind of ''expectation'' that a given race should vote along specific party lines. It seems liberals are quite happy categorizing & stereotyping black people beginning with their ''proper'' voting actitivy and continuing on thru many other facets of their lives...

Black people - can you see this? Do you REALLY want to affiliate yourselves with a party that considers you some kind of dependent pet - that can''t manage to care for yourselves without their help? Take a stand for yourselves... take a stand for your future..... vote Republican & let these unAmerican traitors find some other pet to take care of....

Interesting Post! Sen. Obama was subjected to the prejudices of both whites and blacks and when asked was he "Black" enough responded by saying he grew up Black and was treated like a Black because thats how he looked, "Black" and you get treated like you look! Switching gears, race and cultural discrimination is misleading, there are many discriminations, too many to even speak of, I think racial discrimination is a head game because once effectively ignored it loses it power! Take Iraq, the Shiites and Sunnis are all biologically the same! Yet the priority discriminatory factor is religion which trumps cultural and race in this case! Discrimination is a sophisticated head game, in this case you need to don''t play to win!

I''''d venture to say that the 90% of blacks who are Democrats are clearly the go-along-with-the-crowd group. The 10% who are Republicans would seem to be the only ones who are able to think outside their predetermined box. They are the only blacks who are obviously taking any risk with their political beliefs, and it is that original and individual thinking that makes white liberals so angry. This sounds like insecurity and jealousy on the part of white liberals to me.

wow. point the finger, and then expose your racist beliefs, why don''t you. try leaving liberals and blacks alone, your labels are used as insults, and you really are lacking any education yourself.
