Speaking at a convention of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators in Hartford, Mueller said the ruling "does throw a lot of things up in the air."
By a 5-4 vote last week, the nation's highest court struck down the District of Columbia's 32-year-old ban on handguns, the first major pronouncement on gun rights in history. It upheld the right for communities to license guns.
Mueller said communities will have to determine their own license programs. As a former Marine who served in Vietnam, he said "I tend to believe weapons harm people and more often than not they harm the people carrying them."
With his grandchildren going to college, Mueller said he hopes "those campuses will be weapons free."
Mueller said the FBI's top priority remains counterterrorism, counter-intelligence and protecting the secrets of the United States.
He said college campuses and small communities could be "potential incubators of terrorism" even while major cities such as New York and Los Angeles remain primary targets for terrorists.
"The fact is we can't rule out any community in the United States as a potential incubator of terrorism," Mueller said.

- AMERICA, WAKE UP!!! WE HAVE PEOPLE RUNNING OUR COUNTRY, AT ALL LEVELS OF GOVERMENT, THAT CAN NOT BE TRUSTED ANY MORE THEN THE KID WORKING AT WALMART, AND IN MANY CASES NOT MUCH SMARTER.

- Mr. Mueller is halfway correct----there are many people who own/carry guns that dangerous to themselves. Many of those people are FBI agents and police officers/agents.
I know of several instances where the so-called trained professions have either killed soneone or did something very stupid. Mr. Mueller is one of the eliteists that think the "great unwashed mass" are not trustworthy to have weapons----the same thoughts as Adolph Hitler, George Bush, etc. - Reply to this comment

- I came across this saying recently, which explains why government people like Meuller and Mayor Daley in Chicago would become concerned with private gun ownership:
The 2nd Amendment is there in case the Government forgets about the other Nine.

- I dont understand how allowing the people of this country their right to own and carry weapons will in anyway cause small communities to become incubators for terrorism, or in any way promote terrorism, this guy is a real goofball. Gun control doesnt work, Washington has it, Chicago has it, criminals dont care about one more stinking little law, only the law abiding citizens suffer at the hands of unrestrained criminals.

- I thought Mueller took and oath to protect and defend the constitution against all ememies foriegn and domestic. What a twist, he has come to be an enemy of the people by advocating to strip me and my fellow citizens of our right to protect our own person and property. He should resign because his view of the citizens of this nation is dangerous, full of the draconian notions of tyrants. He is a fearful bureaucrat and would love to strip us of our rights in order to protect us. Those who to give up their rights for a little safety deserve niether, Ben Franklin once said. Mueller deserves no respect as a man or a citizen. Another gutless wonder.

- These comments come from an organization whose headquarters is named after an infamous former director who was a transvestite homosexual, and an admirer of Adolph Hitler. Both Hoover and Hitler believed government should not allow civilians access to guns. This is the so called law enforcement agency responsible for the murder of innocent people at Ruby Ridge and Waco. So consider the grim history of this corrupt organization in view of the recent statement by this government stooge, now in charge of the FBI.

- (AP) FBI Director Robert Mueller on Monday criticized the U.S. Supreme Court''s recent ruling that Americans have a right to own guns for self-defense and hunting, saying it may harm efforts to deter violent crime.
******************************************
Yes, because before this supreme court ruling, there was hardly any violent crime. What a crock. Almost in every case, when states have passed concealed carry laws and have liberal gun laws, there is less violent crime against innocent victims. The places that have the most restrictive gun laws, seem to have the most violent crime. Here in Kansas a concealed carry law was passed and you would have thought the sky was falling. Everyone was running around putting "No guns allowed" signs on their businesses and the doom and gloomers were predicting anarchy in the streets. Of course nothing like that happened and violent crime against individuals went down. The gang-bangers are still shooting each other, but they did that anyway. Everything will be okay. - Reply to this comment
- Mr Mueller has it wrong, if the US of A government was doing its required job, then there would be no terrorist cells or gangs, or Unions or mistreated Vets or people dying in ER''s for lack of attention or Old poor people eating out of garbage cans and our soldiers would be here guarding our borders the way it should be, not fighting within somebody elses borders

- Didn''t Mr. Mueller take an oath to uphold, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States?
This story suggests that he is using his public office in an attempt to undermine that Constitution.
So, would that be:
%u2013--A. Treachery
---B. Treason
---C. Ethical Violation
---D. Arrogance of Power
or
---E. All of the above? - Reply to this comment
- As a law enforcement professional, I would assume that Mr. Mueller has taken an oath to uphold, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. These public comments appear to be part of a calculated effort to undermine that Constitution. I''m no expert on law, ethics or treason, but you can put me down as one American who is very uneasy with this man holding that job.
We should all remember than when seconds count, the police can be there to help you in minutes. - Reply to this comment

- Perhaps someone should remind slack jawed, communist, pinko mueller of the following:
"I, Robert, Slack jawed, communist, pinko, Mueller, do solemnly swear to support, uphold and defend the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA against all enemies, foreign and domestic, to obey the lawful orders and directives of those appointed before and above me, and that I
enter into this office without any mental reservation whatsoever, so help me GOD."
That''s ALL of the Constitution, not just the parts he agrees with. - Reply to this comment
- "I tend to believe weapons harm people and more often than not they harm the people carrying them."
The day that criminals and law enforcement and oppressive governments everywhere alike all decide to lay down their guns and conduct their daily business with paintball guns, count law abiding citizens in with them.
"The fact is we can''t rule out any community in the United States as a potential incubator of terrorism,"
And that would include the FBI I suppose. No offense intended but they''re his words, not mine. Time for a reality check on this kind of thinking in general regarding our fellow Americans - perhaps the fear felt in government circles, when it reaches the point that encompasses anyone and everyone, is the result of that thing others may refer to as their consciouses speaking to them? Most assuredly, there are crackpots out there, just as there are working in the public sector. Some even seem to get elected to public office, or appointed to office by other their crackpot friends. Hey I''m just saying... - Reply to this comment

- One more way for the government to control the people. People wake up, your rights are being taken away bit by bit.
Who is this idiot in charge of the FBI? We the people have the right to have weapons. Considering we could end up under Marshall law, have rioting in the streets because there is no food due to the high cost of gas and distribution issues, I should think every home would want a rifle to protect themselves with. Or does the Government plan on taking them away when this happens?
