Basic training to learn all about America's fighting force.
The body of Spc. Megan Lynn Touma, 23, was identified Tuesday, two days after she was found dead. Police in the North Carolina city of Fayetteville have called the death suspicious, but few details have been released.
Maj. Angela Funaro, a Fort Bragg spokeswoman, said Wednesday that Army regulations would have required that Touma be reported as absent without leave 24 hours after missing a formation on June 16.
"We're shocked, first and foremost. It's always sad when you lose a soldier. And on top of that, here's a beautiful young woman who is seven months pregnant. It's sad, and deeply troubling," Funaro said.
Authorities said in a statement that they do know not the cause of death, and an autopsy is to be performed.
Funaro said Touma, who was from Cold Spring, Ky., arrived at Fort Bragg from Germany, where she had been assigned for the past three years as a dental specialist.
A barracks room was provided for Touma, Funaro said, but she decided to pay for a motel room instead.
CBS News affiliate WCSC-TV reports that other Fort Bragg officials say Touma was allowed to live in a hotel at their expense until barracks space was provided.
Her former husband, El Sayed Touma, an Egyptian native who served in the U.S. military and now lives in Charleston, S.C., said the Army had told her family she was absent without leave.
"She was left in the room for two days, and the Army said she was AWOL. They didn't even bother to go check on her in the motel where she stayed," he complained.
Touma says he is not the father of Megan's baby, but that the couple had stayed friends following their 2007 divorce and Megan wanted to name her baby after him, WCSC reports.
Touma has not been contacted by police, but said he is willing to help them in any way he can.
Spc. Touma's family declined comment from their home in Kansas, said Deb Skidmore, a spokeswoman at Fort Riley.
Megan Touma is the second pregnant service member to die in North Carolina this year. Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach was found dead near Camp Lejeune in January. A fellow Marine, Cpl. Cesar Laurean, has been charged in her death and is awaiting extradition from Mexico.

Excuse me, but what kind of sexist BS is this?!!! I have a daughter in the military, and the guys are much more likely to whine and complain than the females. They''re also more likely to go AWOL.
Since the authorities stated initially that it didn''t appear that she died of natural causes, this woman is a crime victim, not a perp. Somehow I thought that your toucy-feely, Bush-loving moniker suggested you''re a female. If you are, you must be a anti-feminist fundy who thinks that women belong barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen, tending to a passle of kids and waiting on her hubby. Women in the military do real work, and they do it well. Give them credit instead of trying to lay blame. You''re out of line!

For crying out loud, STOP JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS! They can''t just arrest somebody without some evidence! I love how you IDIOTS are willing to just throw out the constitution at the slightest whim!
This woman and her unborn child are dead. Show some respect and compassion.
BTW, this wasn''t an immaculate conception. Some guys automatically blame the woman when there''s a pregnancy, as if the man doesn''t have any responsibility. Unless you know something you''re not telling the authorities, you don''t know the circumstances. It may have been voluntary, but there are other scenarios.
Your bashing the victim reflects your prejudice and ignorance. As Lincoln said: "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."
I''m so glad we live in a free country, where everyone has the right to free speech. Even if their speech is ignorant, negative & thought-less babble!
Your stupid comments only re-enforce my belief that "people of faith" are usually anything but spiritual beings.

You sir are an idiot. 1 million Iraqis? Where did you come up with that number? If we are lucky maybe you will be the next victim.

If such is fact, you should have no problem posting a credible source that states as much....
It is because of attitudes like yours that justifies us killing terrorists
Are you sure Jesus was a he ? What if he was a nephrodite, or a drag queen ? Would you still believe in him ?
