Florida Prison Guard Raped And Murdered

By
CBSNews
(CBS/ AP)  Authorities say an inmate raped and murdered a female corrections officer at a Daytona Beach prison.

The Department of Corrections reports that Enoch Hall attacked Officer Donna Fitzgerald Wednesday night while she was on duty at the Tomoka Correctional Institution. The Port Orange woman had worked at the prison for 13 years.

WESH-TV in Orlando reported that Fitzgerald, 50, discovered Hall hiding in a warehouse area of the prison after lights-out on Wednesday night. The inmate then attacked her.

State prison records show that Hall, 39, is already serving two life sentences for sexual battery with a weapon and kidnapping convictions from a 1993 case.

"Words cannot express the sorrow I feel over the loss of our correctional officer," said Department of Corrections Secretary Walter McNeil. "The entire department grieves the murder of one of our finest officers, and we pray for the victim's family during this difficult time."

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the attack. No charges have been filed

Here is my response, we are severly outnumbered every day we go to work. All our govener wants to do is cut back cut back and cut back but yet he goes home safely at night and sleep while we deal with the cut backs and no man power to protect so they can live fat in the polictical bullcrap society. Then you got the bleeding hearts who think these "so abused by guards" rapers and killers got it bad. Until it hits their families they cry for them if this was their daughter things would change. I work in this everyday and they look at us and say what you gona do to me I got multiple life sentences so go F@#k yourself cause you can''t touch me. But our congress wants to keep taking away and this is what you get...Why don''t we just let them go if it is so bad for them..why because they don''t deal with it...may God shed his love on her familiy our thoughts are with you all..WAKE UP AMERICA.

This tragedy happened due to low manpower, which is due to lack of funding from the state and federal government. Correctional officer have to deal with the bottom of the barrel, and are paid little to nothing for what they have to deal with. And worst of all, they are severely outnumbered. A ratio of 50 felons to 1 officer is a good day. But just imagine you are the only officer in charge of 100 plus felons. Even in a low level facility, you never know. There are felons in jail for simple poession, etc., and yet only there gang know that they have killed many people. It is a harsh reality, and many taxpayers are against the death penalty, and then you have organization that cry about prisoners human rights.

Look at it this way, kill and rape someone, and you can get life. 3 free meals a day, free room and board, some have cable tv, arts & crafts, etc. If you have life or a death sentence, there is nothing you can do to the criminal, and they will tell you that. Let it be known, he probably has moved up in the felon ranks for killing a correctional officer. There was a BOP officer killed last week, by a murderer. Why are these killers in general population, it is the hug-a-thug mentality of the citizens and politicians that let this happen.

I *still* want to know:
1) How this guy was able to *hide out* after lights out? Doesn''t this prison do a cell headcount after lockdown prior to lights out?
2) Where are the basic safety procedures? Why was a CO *alone* out of sight of a observation booth or fellow CO? What ever happened to the 2 man/under observation rule?

Maybe he just wanted to ensure his extended stay at the ''''big hotel'''' and be sure he can''''t be paroled. Why bother to work a job when you can have food, clothing, and shelter at the expense of taxpayers for free?

Lets ship to IRAQ. Once they are on the ground and we are leaving we can drop them a gun and tell them the only way they come home is if they accomplish all their directives. Make that a long list too.

Uh, didnt the justices just say you have a right to your precious guns. See, if she had a gun she could''''ve defended herself! Oh wait, she did have one. Huh.

No richard, she was off duty and probably did not have a firearm, many of the COs are not allowed to carry as they might be overpowered and have it taken from them.

I like the idiot said said they feel sorry for both families. SCREW THIS P.O.S. FAMILY!!! He was already doing 2 life sentences so his a** was as good as dead to them anyway. I feel sorry for the family of this woman, knowing she was raped & murdered by this animal that still lives & breathes. TRULY SICKENING!!!

From an earlier post:

I know this will honk off some of the more "humane" folk, but why not put shock collars on the more dangerous inmates. If some con starts acting aggressive towards a CO, hit a button and Zap!! The guy gets a shock that''s like twice or three times what a taser would produce.
