Spc. Megan Lynn Touma was identified Tuesday, two days after her body was found in a motel room identified by an odor. The 23-year-old dental specialist with the 19th Replacement Company was from Cold Spring, Ky., and was born in Seoul, South Korea.
The Fayetteville Police Department called the death suspicious. Authorities said in a statement that they do know not the cause of death but said that Touma was seven months' pregnant at the time.
Touma had just arrived at Fort Bragg less than two weeks ago after spending three years assigned to the United States Army Dental Activity Clinic Bavaria in Bamberg, Germany.
Touma is the second pregnant service member to die in North Carolina this year. Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach was found dead near Camp Lejeune in January. A fellow Marine, Cpl. Cesar Laurean, has been charged in her death and is awaiting extradition from Mexico.
A private memorial service for Touma will be held Friday at Hope Chapel.

- So, now I''m going to make some more biggoted remarks. When Bill Clinton gave women in the military equality, he was buckling to the demands of women who were/are career women who didn''t like the no combat rule. Combat service is required to achieve the higher officer ranks. Of course how high one can go in rank determines retirement pay. I can''t prove it, but I would guess that the career women demanding equal opportunity in combat prefer same gender relationships, and the possibility of pregnancy doesn''t exist.
Now that the military has made career paths, "equal," if we ever restart the draft, that means that our country will draft women to combat. I think it is appalling.
There is no world class athletic competition where women compete against the men. That is because there are obvious physical differences which give men the advantage. YES, I know there are exceptions.
I think the fact that the U.S. sends women into combat doesn''t make us look advanced and sophisticated, I think it make us look ridiculous.
I am a woman who served three years honorably in the U.S. Army. - Reply to this comment
- Bill Clinton''''s fault as he''''s the one who pushed for women serving in the military.
Hey numbnuts - my aunt served in the USMC during WW2 and Clinton wasn''''t even born...

IOWEIGN, I didn''t say there were''nt women in the military before that...........I sayed he PUSHED for women serving in the military. Perhaps I should clarify for slobheads like you
This means that Clinton worked it out for them to have equality in the military. Men and women have equal status and responsibilities.
Of course women served in the military, but for the most part they were not placed in the front line or in dangerous positions. They were given positions that were safer. Women''s lib people didn''t like that and Clinton made it possible for them to have equality with men now. Now they fight right along side the men.........and they die along with the men........and woman''s lib doesn''t like it. I''m not sure how much longer I will remain a member with them - Reply to this comment

- June 21st... summer solstice, a satanic high holiday, second only to Halloween. Half of all children who disappear do so in the few weeks preceding those two days each year.

- Whats the rush to have kids? Its all the rage when you are single enlised female. You get out of alot of work and depolyments, all the while still drawing a full paycheck and maternity leave to boot. At least 1 full year or more out of pocket and unavailable for duty. Guys, you are really getting ripped off. Its a shame. But so life goes.

- 23... too bad. Life is a c r a p shoot. Nothing is guaranteed. That''s not a cue for anyone to start preaching The Word or saying that The Lawd needed her for something bigger & better, blah blah blah.
What''s the rush to have kids, ladies? More to life than just getting pregnant. Don''t you want to enjoy being single for a while? You have lots of time. Maybe if I was female I would understand it. But I''m not. Thank ya, Jeeezus!! - Reply to this comment

- I am sure that Touma was aware of what happened to her fellow soldier at Fort Bragg. These women, what are they thinking, they should be aware of what is happening around them and who they are associating with. They should know by now, once a baby comes on the scene the guy wants to be gone. She could have been having an affair with a married man the same as the previous marine. She should have gone to her family and close friends for help first. My condolences to her family and friends and hope that the creep that did this is convicted of killing two people and never sees the light of day.

I love it when people like this make assumptions. You know NOTHING of this case. - Reply to this comment
- Thanks to womens liberation, women who are in the military who are pregnant are expected to stay in their uniforms and perform their military duties exactly the same as if they weren''t pregnant. When I was in the military, pregnant women were taken off duty and shipped home. Maybe we should go back to removing pregnant women from the military environment. If the pregnancy was the result of a rape or a married lover, at least the mother and child would be removed from further association. That might defuse the situation and save lives. Someone out there is going to call me bigoted and/or crazy. So what? Sue me.

- flreason,
I don''t think there is less civility today than yesterday. I just think people are bombarded with it today. Just like you would have thought (in the 1990s) that our leaders have started having *** outside of marriage because of the Clinton scandal. Clinton was mild compared to some things that happened in the past (that were covered up). - Reply to this comment
- The Ten Commandments does tell us ''Thy shalt no kill'', and I certainly believe in them. However, since there are NO exceptions following that rule, how do you think this applys to WAR???

There''s some truth in what you say. It''s also true that domestic violence was often ignored and underreported in times past. I do think there is more tolerance of violence. I remember the public outcry when Kitty Genovese was attacked and neighbors didn''t respond to her cries for help. That would be a local rather than a national issue today. Ethics wasn''t just an abstract concept, it was more visibly in practice. It may only be a matter of degrees, but a few degrees of less civility and responsibility can have a large impact on the society as a whole. - Reply to this comment
- People speak as if our society has suddenly become bad, it always has been, it just wasn''t so open. There is nothing, from pregnant teens, to child molestors, to husbands murdering wives and children, and definitely a racist America that has changed, it''s just more open. *** and lesbians have always existed, but today we allow them to come out. We allow these atrocities and always have. There is nothing happening today that didn''t happen 100 years ago.

- There used to be a time when a man took responsibility for impregnating a woman. He felt duty-bound to marry the woman and support her and the child. Women are viewed by many men as a *** commodity, a momentary diversion who has no claim on his consideration. Now some men kill to avoid financial responsibility. It''''s one of the unintended consequences of sexual "liberation."

Wrong. There was a time when we PRETENDED that men owned up to their responsibilities--but the fact is, men always have been dipping their wick and often an illegitimate child was the result--we just did not talk about it. George Washington was purported to have fathered dozens of children by slaves andhe did not keep them all or take care of them--same with Thomas Jefferson.
Hitler was the the illegitimate offspring of a german man (his mom was a Jew) Illegitimate babies have always been around and in plenty too--we just did not air our dirty linen--but it is not true to think out of sight means did not happen. Now--with the law forcing culpability and with DNA able to prove who the daddy is--men cannot fight their indiscretions as well--this leads some desperate men to try to get rid of the evidence--if the woman won''t get an abortion--then maybe the man brings the abortion to her--an ugly truth--but there it is. - Reply to this comment
