As Hillary Rodham Clinton prepared to return to life in the Senate and announced that she will campaign with Sen. Barack Obama in New Hampshire on Friday, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee began reaching out to female voters who had formed the backbone of Clinton's support in the primary season.

The Obama-Clinton event will take place in the town of Unity, in the southwest corner of a swing state that Obama hopes to carry in November. The symbolism goes beyond the town's name, as Clinton and Obama each won 107 votes there in the January primary.

But New Hampshire is also the state in which Clinton first demonstrated her strong connection with older, working-class women, a group that Sen. John McCain, the presumptive GOP nominee, is now working hard to attract by lauding Clinton and depicting Obama as inexperienced.

At a town hall meeting here on Monday, Obama praised the women responsible for his upbringing and outlined his record of pushing to address issues important to women. The only men in the room were reporters, campaign aides and Secret Service agents.

"I would not be standing before you today as a candidate for president of the United States if it weren't for working women," Obama told the group. "I'm here because of my mother, a single mom who put herself through school. . . . I am here because of my grandmother, who helped raise me. . . . And I am here because of my wife, Michelle, the rock of the Obama family."

As the working-class women in the audience nodded, Obama continued: "Too many of America's daughters grow up facing barriers to their dreams, and that has consequences for all American families. It's harder for working parents to make a living while raising their kids. And we know that the system is especially stacked against women."

He told the group that McCain had opposed the Fair Pay Restoration Act, a bill sponsored by Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) in response to a Supreme Court decision requiring women to seek back wages for pay discrimination within six months of the first discrepancy.

"Senator McCain thinks the Supreme Court got it right," Obama said, as the crowd groaned. "He suggested that the reason women don't have equal pay isn't discrimination on the job -- it's because they need more education and training."

The McCain campaign countered with a memo outlining the Republican's support for legislation that would allow parents to work more flexible schedules, and would offer more tax relief, especially for small-business owners.

The memo also notes that McCain and his siblings "were often cared for solely by his mother while his father was away on long military deployments" and adds: "He has said that this experience has often taught him of the struggles many women face in raising families."

A day before returning to vote in the Senate, Clinton sent her supporters an e-mail on Monday with a videotaped statement soliciting contributions to help her retire more than $22 million in campaign debt, but she did not make a similar appeal on behalf of Obama.

Saying it was the beginning of the "next chapter of this historic journey," she recapped recent events. "We've blazed new trails, broken old barriers and transformed the political process forever," a smiling Clinton said, speaking directly into the camera with a vase of yellow roses in the background. "Together we made history, and I will continue to work toward our common goal of building an America that respects and embraces the potential of every last one of us. This goal is shared by our Democratic Party nominee, Senator Barack Obama, and I look forward to campaigning with him across this great country of ours."

She concluded: "I hope you will continue to stand with me and support me by going back to HillaryClinton.com. We still have so much to do together. We've made history. Let's make some more."

It is typical for rivals to help the other retire debt after primary process because it makes for party unity towards general election.

At the same time, it is reported that if only 20% of Hillary''''s 18 million voters sit out or vote McCain, Obama loses in November. That is only about 4 million voters.

Sources say, Al Gore may try to become the Dem nominee when Obama may be driven out by his own scandals unleased by media. Apparently Obama''''s only role is to rid Hillary, then self destruct so Gore will waltz in and claim the nomination in August.

What do you think?

You do a lot of wishful thinking. Al Gore needed no sabotaged primary to get the nomination. Had Al Gore run, both HRC and Obama would have lost. Because HRC was, is and will remain too divisive and with too many negatives, starting with her pathological lying. And with reaction to Obama''s race being a wild card--we would have flocked to the Noble Prize winner touting his second nomination as a chance to put 2000 right. His slogan:
What America should have done in the first place if they wanted gas at .99/gal.

Were Obama be brought down, Hillary remains the only legitimate alternative, in the eyes of the vast majority of Dem and ind. voters. According to Dem Party inner circles, Al Gore is positioning to step into the vacuum once Obama is gone. He is the oligarghy''''s "ace in the hole."

Posted by ijagpoj at 10:31 PM : Jun 24, 2008

It''s good that you qualified that with HRC remaining the choice if the only other choice was eliminated---choices are like that---sooner or later, if all the other choices are gone--only the worst choice remains. But since it is the only choice--it becomes the best by default.

That is like saying--if God were destroyed--Satan would be the best choice for most people--and stop putting Independents in your bullcrapppper. Between Hillary and McCain--McCain would be the first choice for most INdependents--because we may not see eye to eye on much--but most Independents despise HRC. That is just a fact--you ignore it or pretend it is different than that--at your own risk (sort of like ignoring caucus states, LOL)

Woo all he wants, he needs Congress to get his programs through. Doesn''''t anyone understand that Congress can vote his programs down, everyone is along for the ride. When the ride stops see where everyone lines up.

We need a third party with an experienced person to run.

Dizzy from all that spinning? You ARE Confused. LOL Because if Congress in your corner is needed to get things done--and both major parties'' candidate loses--who exactly will be there to support your supposed 3rd party winner? The Congress from the two losing parties? LOL A mind is a terrible thing to waste. rotflmao

HILLARY''S TOTAL CAMPAIGN DEBT IS ONE-TENTH OF HER PERSONAL FORTUNE.

NO FOOD WILL BE TAKEN OFF HER TABLE if she has to pay it all herself.

BWAHAHAHA!! What, are you a CERTIFIED loser, or are you still taking lessons?

You just said you''re getting ripped off by a wealthy person, but you''ll send in the money anyway. Even if it means taking food off your table.

I remember a old cartoon about the man waiting in the rain to meet someone who wants to borrow money from him. He is saying "I''ve been waiting here TWO HOURS in the rain! Well, I''ll wait just ONE MORE HOUR, then he''ll just have to borrow money from SOMEONE ELSE..."

Did you pose for that cartoon?

So I want to know from Rowdy if she thinks us Obama supporters should bail Clinton out of her debt?

I think it sucks that the richests person in the race, Hillary now wants us to bail her out. I''''ll probably do it for the good of the party but that means I will have to forgo another night of meat on the table. I have to wonder what Hillary and Bill are going to give up at the dinner table.

...So Rowdy, what do you think?

Keep having that little delusion, Chitown. Obama never won a damned thing. He was APPOINTED as the nominee by the DNC who ALLOWED him to refuse to the count the votes actually as they were cast in two states! Remember, neither Obama or Clinton got enough pledged delegates to win it. Then it became up to the DNC. Funny isn''''t it, how oil and energy money starts to look wonderful when it''''s helping your cause. Of course it''''s nasty, nasty if it helps the other party.

Couldn''t have said it better, DITTO!!!!

If Obama wins, we are so screwed. I%u2019m racing to pay off my debts by Jan 2009 because if God forbid the Obamanation should win%u2026 man I can%u2019t even complete the thought.

I%u2019m also planning to move to a red state with no income tax, and have decided not to purchase any land or house either. I%u2019ll be debt free and in a good position to withstand the imminent horrors we%u2019ll be facing, so if this HAS to happen, it may as well happen now. I guess it pays to be single sometimes.

Let%u2019s not forget the only thing that spared us from utter chaos when Clinton was President was because a Republican Congress quickly came to power and kept him in check for the rest of his two terms. People here assume we%u2019ll see a repeat of that should the Obamanation sit in the White House, but there%u2019s a reason why assume starts with A-S-S.

TruUS,

You''re wrong. If we split up the Demo vote, the Dem''s will lose.

DEM''s UNITE! We can afford another Republican Administration.

"Obama surrogates ran their primary campaign using lines that sounded like they were lifted out of a dated 1970s movie like Blazing Saddles that expected the audience to laugh at rape jokes.
