Five Things You May Not Know About McCain

Jeff Glor On Why, Among Other Things, Some Don't Consider His Candidacy Constitutional

(CBS)  In the minds of some observers of the political scene, it could be argued that John McCain's run for the presidency runs afoul of the Constitution.

And, in his younger days, McCain's nickname was "Punk."

Later, his Vietnamese captors called him "The Crown Prince."

The reasons behind those facts, and some other things you might not know about the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, were included in a piece by correspondent Jeff Glor.

He admits McCain has been in public life so long, and his story is so well-known, it wasn't easy coming up with the five elements.

And what does Glor conclude when taking the little-known aspects of McCain's life as a whole?

I am truly amazed at the overt pro-Obama and anti-McCain bias demonstrated by CBS news. This was most obviously and recently depicted on the "5 things you didn''t know" about each candidate piece. When I first heard it I thought it was some sort of parody giving fake humorous examples of media bias. Regardless of which candidate is my preference or the preference of other posters, any fair minded reader should be embarrassed by the CBS bias in this instance.

Wow, how incredibly biased CBS is towards Obama! McCain was not a carpet bagger, he is the son and grandson of two people who served this country in the military and thus lived in many places. Obama, on the other hand, is a true carpet bagger. He is not from Illinois, he moved to Chicago to become involved in the corrupt Chicago Democrat policital machine. This not only wasn''t the no. 1 on the Obama list last week, it didn''t make it into the top 5. And, the other points about McCain are generally negative, while those about Obama are generally positive. How about some balanced and fair reporting for a change, CBS??

"4. Crashed two planes before being shot down. Crashing two planes and being shot down are two different things altogether. We were not there so we have no idea if he was responsible for any of these mishaps. Apparently the navy cleared him of any wrong doing in any of the incidents mentioned."

Actually, it''s four planes + bombing the USS Forrestal . It helps to have an admiral as Dad.

I find it absolutely appalling that corporate media is lacking in their responsible reporting. Over and over again we heard about Michelle Obama not being proud of her country but when it comes teflon John, again, his repeated remarks about him not really loving his country until he was a prisoner of war go unnoticed. It''s also intersting how the transcripts of his recent interview suddenly were scrubbed by FOX News but the film footage lives on.

five things we do not know about McCain
1. He was born in the Panama Camnal Zone. He was boprn on a U.S. Navy base there. Being retired military i know that if a servicemembers child is born on a U.S. base in a foreign country, they are entitled to U.S. citizenship.
2. Nockname punk in high school. So what. Many kids had nicknames in high school and may have been rebels. This didn''t mean they would not becomne productive citizens.
3. Graduated 5th from bottom of Anapolis. So what . To graduate from Anapolis in any position has to be an honor. Equivalent of graduating from Harvard, Yale, or Princeton.
4. Crashed two planes before being shot down. Crashing two planes and being shot down are two different things altogether. We were not there so we have no idea if he was responsible for any of these mishaps. Apparently the navy cleared him of any wrong doing in any of the incidents mentioned.
5. He moved to Arizona to run for the House. So what. How many elected officials are elected from the state they are born or reside in ? What is the relevancy ? I think if this is the only things they could come up with , then it speaks positively for John McCain.
Before everyone gets there panties in an uproar. I am not supporting obama or McCain. I just think that everything should be given and taken in context.

The silent majority is a myth, it was thought up to reflect an huge number of Americans who don''t really care what happens to their country and Constitution. They are silent because of their ignorance, complicity in crimes against the people and completely apathetic.

"Four years ago about this time the polls had Kerry ahead by 27% and you know what happened. I was for Kerry, but was surprised he got beat.

That''s false, Kerry was never ahead by any more than a handful of points at any time during the campaign. You would know that if you were really a Kerry supporter.

I got to wondering about that 27% Kerry lead you spoke of, I found this"

May 11, 2004

Kerry Ahead by Six
The latest Gallup poll has Kerry leading Bush by 6 points among RVs (50-44), up from dead-even 5 days before. (47-47).

Not 27%.

Oh right...the "silent" majority, forgot about them, easy to do. Can''''t trust the polls, unless they show your candidate ahead. I guess you won''''t be trusting the polls all the way to the election.

Four years ago about this time the polls had Kerry ahead by 27% and you know what happened. I was for Kerry, but was surprised he got beat. I think that is what will happen this year. I think Hillary or Edwards could have won, but Obama will never pull a certain segment of the voters over and that segment has millions of voters that will vote for McCain.

wow from the descriptors here, McCain sounds just like Bill Clinton. It''s incredibly difficult to follow any one dialogue here. Why has this contest been so sour this year? Is it always like this? Hillary supporters feel their rights have been violated (can''t figure that one out), Obama-haters are about the most foulmouthed folk comin'' out of the sticks (oh why??), GOP supporters are nasty & unethical (well outdoing the dems here), and come onto this posting, and it''s a spew fest!!! McCain won''t protect any of our civil rights, male or female, so do explain how any educated women may defect to this guy, or ever support him.

The only thing your right about hungrymama is that McCain is a better "man" than you. But as far as everything else about him, his temperment, his conservatism, his misgogany, his warmongery, his support of the rich and corporations places him as the LAST person I want in the White House.

The only thing needed to know about McCain is that he is a "republican", first, last and always. And that fact is why he must be kept out of the White House.

The Republicans are going to win again. The democrats had their best chance this year and picked the wrong man as their candidate. People will not vote for him and you can''t believe the polls. The SILENT majority will be the ones voting for McCain, not the nuts on this forum.
