Clinton Brings What Obama Needs: Money

Hillary Clinton's Contribution To Barack Obama's Campaign Focuses On Dollars And Cents

A look at the life and meteoric rise of the president-elect.

(CBS)  Two weeks after pledging her full-hearted support to democratic nominee Barack Obama in her concession speech, and following some time off, Sen. Hillary Clinton is ready to actively rally her troops to his side, CBS News correspondent Thalia Assuras reports.

"Her involvement in the campaign is welcome news and we're very excited about it," said Tom Daschle, national co-chair of the Obama campaign.

On Thursday, she will introduce Obama to her key fundraisers. On Friday, they campaign side-by-side for the first time. Democrats are practically salivating over the potential positives Clinton brings with her.

"I think Sen. Clinton has a tremendous role if she wants to take it, in the campaign," Daschle said. "She has an extraordinary following all across the country -- among women, among minority groups, among working people."

Clinton's help in soothing the bad blood between the campaigns is critical -- history has shown how important that can be:

When Senator Ted Kennedy challenged Jimmy Carter for the nomination in 1980, the battle became bitter -- and the fallout was fatal.

"They never made up in a convincing way and it was one of the reasons why President Carter lost," said Mike Allen, Politico's chief political correspondent.

But the biggest plus Clinton offers is cash. Obama, who just a few days ago broke his pledge to rely on public financing, needs those checks.

"The campaign could not afford for all these supporters to take the summer off and lick their wounds," Allen said. "They want them to be in there raising money, giving money right away."

Obama's May fundraising report reveals a slowdown: $23 million in contributions, more than $7 million less than a month earlier. Rival Sen. John McCain was close behind. But analysts predict Clinton's supporters could produce a surge of up to $75 million.

"Money is important in a presidential campaign," said public opinion analyst Mark Mellman. "Most of Barack Obama's money is coming from small contributions. But every dollar matters and being able to get those Clinton fundraisers is very important for his campaign moving forward."

I thought flip-flop Obama was already $wimming in cash - $500 million or so. He broke his pledge to accept public financing because he was already drowning in cash and doesn''t need the public money. What has he got over McCain - 3 to 1?

Posted by lorinkundert,

Let me get this correct. You are calling Roosevelt an evil man for bringing the new deal? Have you ever considered the fact that if it wasn''t for Roosevelts actions to rebuild the nations infrastructure, we would not have been able to ramp up manufacturing as quickly as we did to supply our military needs in WW II. Given that fact its very possible if Roosevelt had not been president Hitler would have won.

I suggest you do a little reading about World War II before you make statements regarding how evil Roosevelt was!

Roosevelt was a great president who did more for his country than any other president.

The former first lady, who bowed out of the Democratic contest on June 7, reported a $22.5 million debt at the end of May, more than half of which was a personal loan to her presidential campaign. She lent her campaign nearly $2.2 million in May, bringing her total personal investment in the campaign to $12.175 million. She had $3.4 million cash on hand left for primary spending. She also had more than $23 million for the general election, money her campaign cannot use.

The arrogant elitist oligarchs have attempted a corporate hostile takeover threatening to dissolve the american democratic founding principles of representation for a diverse population of citizens, not a special select few. Some believe america should belong to those who own the gold but that is precisely what this republic was founded in opposition to namely oligarchies be they tribal or other.

Like a criminal sociopath, the right wing republican neo cons became more brazen and careless with their rhetoric. They promoted Bush and he did the american people one favor. Bush exposed the anti-american plot of the right wing corporate neo cons which is to overthrow the people ( get big public government off their backs ) and replace it with private oligarchic elitist right wing rule. The true axis of evil has been exposed.

This is more of the filthy dirty tricks of the right wing. These same ruthless corrupt bloggers were saying only a few months ago that if Hillary were to get the nomination they would vote for McCain but if Obama got the nomination they would vote for Obama. Right wing republicons are the opposite of everything they say. They have no principles. They are criminal sociopaths and use whatever means they need to achieve their end. Hilary HAS to campaign for Barack and has to be seen doing it enthusiastically. If Barack loses this fall (not likely, but still) then her political career, as a Democrat anyway, will be over. The party will turn on her and tear her to pieces for ruining the best shot at the White House in years. Right or wrong, she''ll be blamed so she''d better work her pant-suited fanny off for him, or else.

There is no human one should look upon as the trusted messiah. It has been this blind trust and non-participation that has led to american citizens coming very close to having their democratic nation underhandedly transformed into a corporate special interest oligarchy. Americans have grown fat and trusting and the predators who have always been out there have gained advantage by wearing sheep wool mixing religion and private corporate interests in with government. Be vigil but vote for Obama. The right wing neo con party has failed the american founding principles in spite of what they think or believe, they have. Anyone who has been associated with and campaigning for this ideology cannot be trusted on the basis of stupidity, poor insight, lack of vision or outright corruption.

The thoughts of a defeated republican that is seeking to mitigate the damage by encouraging non-participation. To vote on so called "principle" is to choose not to participate. Non-participation is the apathy the republicons seek from the people. This is the poisonous attitude and rhetoric that was used against the people by the republicons. The big government is corrupt, it''s not to be trusted, why vote?...that was the neo con manipulation of getting the people to not participate.

I beleive Hillary Clinto''s decision to back and support Barack Obama is a clear signal about the type of person she really is. Many didn''t believe she would campaign for anyone but herself, but she is proving those beliefs to be false.

I am very relieved and pleased to once again see that Hillary Clinton proves her critics wrong over and over again. The critics clearly have some growing up to do.

I can see many angry grumpy old men mimmicking a "Fred Sanford" act about their phony heart attacks when Hillary Clinton speaks. Yes, "This gonna be the big one!!!" "Hillary is going to be the VP."
