(CBS)  Hot-shots of the digital camera world - the latest gear for shutterbugs.

The Early Show offered a peek in a brand new segment Saturday, called "What's New In..."

It will showcase the latest in technology.

Paul Reynolds, the electronics editor of Consumer Reports, spotlighted several digital cameras and accessories. They're all on the cutting edge, and they've all been tested - and given the thumbs up - by Consumer Reports.

They're among the coolest and quickest point-and-click cameras on the market:

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T70, $280

COOL FACTOR: Won't take a picture of your subject until he or she smiles!

SUPER-SUBCOMPACT: Even for a subcompact point-and-shoot, this camera is small.

LCD touch-screen enables fast action; you don't have to click through a menu.

Canon PowerShot A650 IS, $350

COOL FACTOR: For a compact point-and-shoot, the LCD articulating is very clear and very flexible. Articulating LCD means flexibility in many directions: You can hold the camera over your head and still see the screen!

HIGH MARKS FROM CONSUMER REPORTS: The highest-scoring compact point-and-shoot camera.

GREAT ZOOM FOR CAMERA THIS SIZE: 6x zoom

Olympus SP-570 UZ, $500

COOL FACTOR: The 20x ultra-zoom / 20 x zoom - the most zoom on a point-and-shoot zoom camera; 20x zoom without having to change lens. If you're in the nosebleed section at a ballpark, you could get a good picture of the pitcher!

Samsung FlipShot, $150

COOL FACTOR: Three-mega-pixel Samsung FlipShot is a sophisticated camera phone, a transformer for the tech lover; it's a phone, it's a camera. Produces great pictures! It looks like a small camera; flip it open, and it's a phone; rotate it again, and you have the LCD screen for a small camera. It's a camera phone with flash and auto-focus.

Casio Exilim Pro EX-F1, $999

COOL FACTOR: A super-zoom camera with HD video and super-fast shooting. Has 12x zoom, which is great!

NEW: Can record HD video with 1080i image resolution; can playback video in your TV.

AMAZING: Fastest point-and-shoot - shoots 60 images per second! Amazing speed; can get 30 shots of one golf swing!

Eye-Fi Memory Card, $100

NEW AND COOL: Wireless memory card for your camera; can be used for any camera that accepts SD cards. Load software onto your computer, put the card into your camera, and that's it! The software uses your home's wireless network to upload your photos to the Internet or to the hard drive of your computer. Sends the photos automatically, as soon as you walk into your wireless network area! Uploads photos directly to any Web site for picture-sharing.

Ho-hum,a buncha toys. Very few digital cameras give the flexibility needed to throw the backgound out of focus or accept wide angle lenses. The extreme ends of most of these zooms distort the image noticeably. If you are a serious photog, you are limited to a couple of Nikon and Canon models with a digital sensor the size of the 35mm frame, way up in the thousands. If the camera cannot produce a raw image editable in an imaging program, you''ve got a toy.
If you want a phone, buy a phone. If you want movies, buy a camcorder.

ERROR: Casio Exilim Pro EX-F1 does NOT record in 1080i.

Go online and look up the specs. It records in much lower 720 resolution.
