Britney Spears' Sis Has Baby

(CBS/AP)  Just call her Aunt Britney now.

The pop star's younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, gave birth to a baby girl this morning.

A person close to the Spears family confirmed the baby's birth to The Associated Press. The person asked not to be identified because the family had not yet made an official announcement.

Jamie Lynn, 17, and her fiancé Casey Aldridge, 19, are the proud parents of Maddie Briann, born at 9:30 a.m. at Mississippi Southwest Regional Medical Center in McComb, Miss., according to E! Online.

A spokeswoman for the hospital told CBSNews.com that, in compliance with patient information privacy laws, she cannot release such information without the patient's permission.

The hospital is near the Spears' family home in Kentwood, La.

Nickelodeon, the network which airs Jamie Lynn's show "Zoey 101," issued a statement about the birth on Thursday, saying, "We wish her and her family well." Nickelodeon spokeswoman Marianne Romano said that filming of the fourth and final season of the kid-oriented program was completed last summer before Jamie Lynn became pregnant.

According to OK! Magazine, Britney flew home to Louisiana Wednesday with her father Jamie, brother Bryan and an assistant to be there for the birth.

Jamie Lynn was the star of Nickelodeon's "Zoey 101" and Aldridge is a pipe-layer from Liberty, Miss. They announced the pregnancy in December.

Why are so many girls so silly & stupid?

No morals, no respect for their bodies, their lives...no God in their lives.

Why the rush to have a baby & get married? You''re 17 for crying out loud. Enjoy life as a single person. What''s so glamorous & exciting about having a baby when you''re a teenager? Or being married for that matter. It''s not going to be a non-stop honeymoon.
Most of it will be a mundane grind.

This not to be celebrated. Particularly with those 17 high school girls in Mass. who are pregnant. I wonder how many other girls across the country followed Jaime''s lead.

Give her a break. She''s only 17 and probably just had a little bad luck.

I wish her the best, people act like she is the only unwed person out there having a baby. I say CONGRATES. I had a baby out of wedlock and I am not ashamed and shouldn''t be my child is the best thing to ever happen to me. Jamie I wish you the best and forget about all these haters.

WHY and HOW is this news? Plenty of women, young and old, give birth to children everyday, yet you don''t see it announced on the internet in the fashion that the Spears''get. Must be a slow news day. It''s as if these news outlets condone such incidents from MINORS. Yes, they are still MINORS, least you forget.

Wow. A baby. The miracle of birth. "Proud parents." Excuse me while I puke. Her uterus works! Yippee! We were worried that she was going to be an old maid.

She''ll be 35 when the brat graduates from high school. How hip & cool. "Your mother looks so young, Maddie. How does she do it?"

Someone beat me to the "pipe" wisecrack.

These kids today. Can''t wait to be mamas & papas. Popping out the babies like a soda vending machine. "I''m bored with junior high, Dad. I need a new challenge."

Children having children. This is NOTHING to be celebrated. It''s a tragedy, for all involved. Of course, 9 months ago, they weren''t thinking it was a tragedy...

Forget the name calling and all that, though I understand that sentiment too...

He took some liberties with the Miss, layed some pipe, and now she''s advanced to Zoey 471, Childhood Development and Care.
