Today's Quakes Deadlier Than In Past

(AP)  New research compiled by Australian scientist Dr. Tom Chalko shows that global seismic activity on Earth is now five times more energetic than it was just 20 years ago.

The research proves that destructive ability of earthquakes on Earth increases alarmingly fast and that this trend is set to continue, unless the problem of "global warming" is comprehensively and urgently addressed.

The analysis of more than 386,000 earthquakes between 1973 and 2007 recorded on the US Geological Survey database proved that the global annual energy of earthquakes on Earth began increasing very fast since 1990.

Dr. Chalko said that global seismic activity was increasing faster than any other global warming indicator on Earth and that this increase is extremely alarming.

"The most serious environmental danger we face on Earth may not be climate change, but rapidly and systematically increasing seismic, tectonic and volcanic activity," said Dr. Chalko.

"Increase in the annual energy of earthquakes is the strongest symptom yet of planetary overheating.

"NASA measurements from space confirm that Earth as a whole absorbs at least 0.85 Megawatt per square kilometer more energy from the Sun than it is able to radiate back to space. This 'thermal imbalance' means that heat generated in the planetary interior cannot escape and that the planetary interior must overheat. Increase in seismic, tectonic and volcanic activities is an unavoidable consequence of the observed thermal imbalance of the planet," said Dr. Chalko.

Dr. Chalko has urged other scientists to maximize international awareness of the rapid increase in seismic activity, pointing out that this increase is not theoretical but that it is an Observable Fact.

"Unless the problem of global warming (the problem of persistent thermal imbalance of Earth) is addressed urgently and comprehensively - the rapid increase in global seismic, volcanic and tectonic activity is certain. Consequences of inaction can only be catastrophic. There is no time for half-measures."

Hey, maybe just maybe Dr. Tom Chalko is right about this.!?
Yea, and maybe I''m a Chinese jet pilot!

CBS, I suggest you immediately post a retraction and apology for this story. That, or explain that it was an attempt at humor and still apologize for putting in the Science section instead of the Weird section. I think you managed to alienate more readers by posting a single article than any other news organization in history.

Nicely done. And this is evidently true looking at the Himalayan earthquake trends.

http://www.physorg.com/news116604628.html

" For decades, geologists studying earthquakes in the Himalayan range of Nepal had noted that there were far more quakes in the winter than in the summer, but it was difficult to assign a cause."

Obviously its because there''s more heat in the winter, and less heat in the summer. Or perhaps an aura reader with a degree in laser holography is incorrect.

Now I''ll let you decide for yourself. Do you believe that the earth under the Himalayas receives more heat in the winter, and less in the summer? Or do you believe that this guy is wrong?

As always, do your own research. The formula at the end of this post:

But I can''t say for sure. I only have a minor in Physics (major in Math) and I have no degree at all in laser holography; so I guess my information and research is suspect... this isn''t my area of specialty, and I don''t have all the answers.

I do however have cynicism, a math/science background, and a suspicious nature. I this this reporter would have done well to adopt at least one of these before posting the rantings of a loony.

brooks0638: The people behind these bogus articles probably used to work at National Enquirer. The CEO thinks,"Hey, people will buy anything. Let''s give them as much BS as we possibly can, so that they will turn their attention to us."

Hey Brianclagg, there is such a thing as mystical energy. You have to believe in paranormal stuff or have a third eye to believe it. Actually, you need some form of intelleigence to accept it. You are apparently right brained only.

Global warming is just a hoax. It was invented by the Queen of England a few years ago so she could get the British Government to pass legislation so she could have alternative fuels created to help curb the high price of oil, when they had an oil crisis. That''s all.

Once again, P.T. Barnum has been proven right.

Pity, actually. I used to have some respect for CBS News and 60 Minutes.

"What follows is not CBS News stuff; it comes from other people and we don''t vouch for it."

I hope CBS doesn''t vouch for the stuff above the line, no one else here does.

Does anyone else get the feeling that the whole man made global warming thing is just a vehicle to scare people & force the public to accept a more efficient & cleaner(and expensive)energy sources? Cleaner & more efficient energy sources is a wonderful idea & will be needed in the future, but is it OK to create a grand lie & spread fear in order to facilitate change in peoples mind set? Do the ends justify the means?
Analogy--Is it a good idea tell a child that if he master-bates that he will go blind in order to get him not to do it?

Way to go CBS: You print an article from a "scientist" that gives lessons on how to "read" auras. Not the geophysical kind, but the "mystical energy" that the fruitcakes say surrounds us all.

http://thiaoouba.com/seeau.htm (Search for Dr. Chalko)

So, in the same "spirit" I say... "Kiss my aura, Dora. MMMMMM, it''s real Angora"..

Hey, how about a little fact checking before you regurgitate this alarmist ***?
