(AP)  Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul is planning a daylong rally in Minnesota during the Republican National Convention that could draw attention from the presumed nominee John McCain.

The Texas congressman with a devoted following has tentatively reserved the Williams Arena at the University of Minnesota on Sept. 2, the second day of the GOP convention.

"We plan on having a large rally," said Paul spokesman Jesse Benton. "We want it to be a celebration of Republican values and what the Republican Party has traditionally stood for."

Benton also said Paul wants to send a message to the GOP "that we need to return to our roots" of limited government and personal responsibility.

The Republican Party will be gathering at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul for its four-day event that will end with McCain accepting his party's nomination.

University of Minnesota spokesman Dan Wolter confirmed in an e-mail that the Paul campaign has a hold on Williams Arena in Minneapolis, Minn.

Supporters of Paul have been pushing for him to have a speaking role at the Republican convention. In the latest Associated Press tally, Paul had 24 delegates.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review first reported on its Web site about the Paul event.

If Ron Paul hopes that modern-day neo-Republicans want to hear about traditional Republican values, he''s going to be sadly mistaken. If they let him speak it will be at 3 AM. There is no "free Speech" in the Republican Party. The price is your political soul. The price is subservience to the neocon agenda of perpetual war and Big Brother government monitoring every element of your private life.

The fact that Exxon-Mobil is sponsoring every article in the "Political" section with the money that they have squeezed from the dead bodies of Americans, Afghans, and Iraqis, shows pretty clearly who owns our elections system, and demonstrates their open contempt for the people of the U.S. and the world.

They seem to think that most Americans are really, really ignorant and stupid. I''m not sure that they are wrong on this point.

This is an excellent idea. The GOPlins in control need some good old competition. The McCaint''s are too quiet trying to figure out what to do with an honest man like Ron Paul. So far they "think" they''ve done a good job in the press coverage of McCain, but they themselves in the GOP don''t even believe it. They''re in trouble and everybody knows it. It amazes me, and is a good lesson to see just how far the extent of stubbornness for party''s sake will go. The GOP has the most honest, the most pro-constitutional candidate (with the record to back it up) they have EVER HAD,.....and he is shunned for it. You guys are cowards and ought to be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves needing a 10 fingers and 2 toes years "pubwik ejukayted" **** like me to point this out......note: Ron, you must keep your name on the ballot no matter what!

This is the man that should lead the usa. He has always fought for the the little guy. No one can touch him on economics and law. This is what america needs a president that stays out of your life and home.
Now if the readers would read about Dr Paul and listen to his message then you will begin to understand that things are not good in america

too bad so many people just dont get it ron. but a lot of people did too! would have loved to have seen a clearinghouse of useless and detrimental federal programs along with all the self important self imposing government welfare recipients (they call themselves employees) kicked to the curb and be replaced by nothing.

instead we will get more govermnent and more debt- obama or mccain. soon enough we will all be employed by the government, and well be just like old school socialized communists, enjoy.

the only man truly fighting for individual freedoms, rights and liberties. without those elements we are nothing.

getting my write in vote.

Glad to hear that Ron Paul is still in there stirring things up.

His economic message was RIGHT ON TARGET when BOTH the Main-Stream Media parties were still trying smoke and mirror popularity contests rather than SOUND Leadership and Common Sense.

Keep pushing for those ECONOMIC and CONSTITUTIONAL objectives even after this next middle school level "popularity contest" is over.

The nation will NEED help to climb back up after this ride over the cliff.

It''s amazing the youth that found Dr. Scarecrow appealing. His ideological libertarianism are some of the building blocks the neo cons used to argue in part for "privatization" which means, as time goes by, fewer and fewer will participate in the direction of society as wealth aggregates into a smaller number. Old european oligarchies were big privatized governments that served the special interests of a very small minority of elite. It was the time of trickle down economics. The masses wrote fairy tales about the elite who were hidden in their castles. Sort of the lack of transparency on the rise in this nation as politicians work for a small constituency of corporate elite.

So Dr. Scarecrow stays out of your life, doesn''t do his job representing the people of the United States and large corporations become the government. Some people are far too idealistic to the point of being unrealistic. Human beings form governments period. There is no such thing as no government. Once that is accepted for the reality it is then the next decision is who leads? Will it be a "public" government representing the broadest constituency or a "private" government representing the wealthy and powerful? Old world oligarchies drew upon the peasants to perpetuate private lives of excess. Go to St. Petersburg, Russia for one and all European countries and the history of what big "privatized" government creates for a few is impossible to miss.

Old european oligarchies are not what the United States was founded upon.

Neo Con republicons know one thing, power and money. They are the anti-christ on this issue, the anti-thesis of the message of Jesus yet many of them claim to love Jesus, at least those in the business of religion like pastor Hagee. Their mortality will be their worst nightmare when they will be faced with justice. Whited sepulchers, wolves dressed in lambs wool, hypocrites, the summation of the right wing neo con republicon conservative with everyone but themselves.

I might give you some credibility but like a typical republicon neo con you go for the jugular with your socialist cra*p. How about the extremism of capitalism? Maybe a little Zen Buddhism would do you and this nation some good. The extremes of capitalism and socialism are both legitimate perspectives that if used collaboratively could create the wise mind. Until then, any wise people who may reside in the United States have every human right to protect themselves from extremist crack pot cult members.

Of all the RepubliCONS running, Paul represented traditional republican values, none of the others were even close!

Had he been elected in 2000, we would have never been engaged in two wars, or have an economy that''s sinking like the Titanic, or lost our reputation as a beacon of freedom and justice amongst the world''s nations!

It''ll be up to ''true'' Republicans to take the party back from Bush''s extremist rightwing neocons or watch it ''go down in flames'' as well.

McCain won''t restore traditional Rep values, he''s a Washington insider. He''s surrounded by lobbyists and businessmen and he''ll continue Bush''s policies of selling out America until there''s nothing left to sell out.

Wait ''n see, if you dare!

I can honestly say all I know of Ron Paul is just bits and pieces and surmise he is as far right as Obama is far left (further left than Hillary...whoa!). However, the major hold up in getting on board with him is the crazy azz followers who pick up and run with his praises. These people are sickos. The man could be one smart cookie with all the traditional values of Republicans of not-so-long-ago...but these whack jobs are repulsive to the normal-minded who get a glimpse of having him in the White House!!! And they have to know this so I have to question their intelligence in being in such a lather over someone that they repel any one who falls within the sane range of thinking. Poor guy...he''s a nut magnet....and as a result, he''s a liability. He needs to find a way to shake the crazies before actual sane people get on board with him.

I''m a Paul-**** too. I have always been for the Constitution and learned very early that our gov wasn''t playing by the rules...
What most Americans want is to be told what to do, how to do it and when to do it....They aren''t interested in their government. The statistics today are similar to when Patrick Henry said "Give me liberty or give me death."
About 30% actually give a *** about their country....
From what I have gleaned, most people don''t think their vote will do any good and they really want to be taken care of. They think they''re standing on their own, but they don''t want the social programs to go away... Gee, it sounds like a welfare country to me... What are we to do about this..?

Well that was refreshingly sane...are you getting this truthisstran? I''m just saying...he may very well be the great hope for the Republicans...God knows McCain doesn''t know half the time whether to scratch his watch or wind his own but.t. But some of the things Paul is quoted as being in favor of are extreme and I''m tired of extremely squeaky wheels getting all the grease...whether it''s extreme tree huggers calling all the shots on environmental measures or extreme conservatives calling for birth control pills to be banned world-wide...it''s an exaggeration but it still carries the same weight with people wanting more balance in control. Pelosi needs to be bound and gagged...but Republicans need their faces smacked for getting to a place where they can''t even come up with an alternative plan to these whacked out proposals the Democrats are coughing up like so much phligm! If Ron Paul can control his crazy followers he might just be the answer.

This should be fun - a Ron Paul convention of crazies, cracking on the Republicans just up the street ! That should make for some great sound bytes, we''ll see who shows up and who says what. You Libertarians have a lot in common with the Marxists you know - they predicted the withering away of the State and a society that could stand up for itself with everyone producing what they can, and getting only what they need. They were wrong - and so are you. The only nations that have ever survived on earth have had strong central governments which served their masses, individuals and "entrepreneurs" have never had the wherewithall to build nations, it takes the organization and execution of governments. Just look at Mexico - the only reason they have a highway system or railroads or rural electrification is because of their central government. We were once where they are, you just can''t see it now. You Republicans are insane, and the Libertarians are even worse. What fun this election will be !

Barack Obama of Illinois had the most liberal voting record in 2006. He was more liberal than 86 percent of the Senate. Chris Dodd of Connecticut was close behind - achieving a mark of 84 percent more liberal. Joe Biden of Delaware rated 77.5 percent. Hillary Clinton of New York had the lowest overall liberal score in 2006, clocking in 70.2 percent.

Ron Paul is the only real Republic left in Washington.

Johnny Mc & Chuck Haggel are half plastic and the rest like Bush and his backers all total frauds (RINO).

How to tell the difference between a neo.con and a real_con:

neo.con- loves war and knows how to profit from it
real_con- hates war and knows to use our military force only as last resort

neo.con- knows how to out spend "tax-n spend liberals" , create record deficits and cuts taxes only for the ultra rich
real_con- hates BIG government and wants to to cut spending & lower taxes for the middle class

neo.con- cares nothing for individual freedoms & the rule of law, is ok with allowing government to spy on citizen because they know it can be a useful political tool, loves the traitorous "patriot act"
real_con- does not trust the government and refuses to support surrender of liberties. Hates the traitorous "patriot act"

neo.con- says %u201Csupport our troops%u201D but means help me profit from this war, who cares what happens to those suckers when they come home, they signed up this this in first place.
real_con- says %u201Csupport our troops%u201D but means thank God for our brave men & women, let''s do everything we can to keep them safe and take care of them when they come home.

McCain''s in a tough spot. He has to find a VP who''s competent and credible, but yet crazy enough to ride the Double Talk Express over a cliff in this election. In other words, he needs to find a walking, talking conundrum.

I''ve seen Lindsey Graham defending McCain on the talk shows, so maybe Senator Graham should run as McCain''s VP?!

However, I do believe I heard Senator Graham say he''s not interested in the job. I wonder why that is??? Why won''t Lindsey take a seat on the bus?

Heck, when John''s not hydroplaning, maybe Lindsey can get a few miles in behind the wheel.
