FBI Alarmed At Murder Rate Among Black Men

2007 Statistics Show Decline In Violent Crimes; Black Teen Murders On The Rise

Statistics and specifics on crime in America.

(AP)  Both violent and property crimes in the United States declined in 2007 from the previous year, the FBI reported Monday. But one expert warned the figures could mask a growing murder problem among young black men.

In preliminary figures for crimes reported to police, the bureau said the number of violent crimes declined by 1.4 percent from 2006, reversing two years of rising violent crime numbers. Violent crime had climbed 1.9 percent in 2006 and 2.3 percent in 2005, alarming federal and local officials.

Property crimes were down 2.1 percent last year from the previous year, the largest drop in the last four years.

Because the FBI preliminary figures do not contain the detailed breakdowns by age, race and gender of the final report that comes later in the year, one expert, James Alan Fox, said they may unintentionally mask a growing murder rate among black male teenagers and young adults, particularly with guns.

"We shouldn't be fooled into thinking our problems are over," said Fox, a criminal justice professor at Northeastern University. Fox said that from 2002 to 2006, the rate of murder committed by black male teens rose 52 percent.

"Violence is down among whites of all ages and both genders; it's up among black males, not black females," Fox said. "When you blend all the national numbers together you fail to see this divergence. There are many more whites in the population, so their decline can dwarf the increase among young black males."

Fox said black males are "feeling the impact of the economic decline and an increase in gangs and illegal gun markets. Gangs and youth crime are a growing problem despite these rosy statistics."

FBI spokesman Richard Kolko said, "One preliminary report does not make a trend, but it's going the way we want it to go." Kolko cautioned against putting too much significance on any shift that hasn't lasted at least two years.

Justice Department spokesman Peter Carr called the report "very encouraging" though he noted the final report could alter the figures.

"The report suggests that violent crime is decreasing and remains near historic low levels, which is a credit to increased cooperation among federal, state and local law enforcement," Carr said. "Some communities, however, continue to face localized violent crime challenges."

The largest declines were in vehicle theft, down 8.9 percent and in rape, down 4.3 percent and murder, down 2.7 percent.

The crime trends were not uniform. Murders, for instance, were down in cities of more than 250,000, including an enormous 9.8 percent drop in cities of more than a million residents. But murders rose in some small cities - up 3.7 percent in cities of 50,000 to 100,000, up 1.9 percent in cities of 100,000 to 250,000, and up 1.8 percent in cities under 10,000. Historically, murder trends have begun in the largest cities and moved over several years to smaller ones.

The other violent crimes tracked by FBI statistics - robbery and aggravated assault - were both down 1.2 percent.

The other property crimes in the FBI figures also declined, larceny-theft by 1.2 percent and burglary by 0.8 percent.

The FBI's preliminary crime report each year gives percentage changes rather than crime totals for national figures because not every jurisdiction has completed its reports yet.

the people spouting racism and horrible lies here will have a rude awakening one day, when a black doctor or nurse is the only one left to care for you when you need help the most. Or if you need a loan and the loan manager at your bank is black, and you have to comport yourself decently in his/her presence. Good luck hiding your hate, venom, and ignorance. I remember black middle class being very self sufficient, until the Repubilcan era (1980 onward) decided to send jobs over seas and bring cocaine/crack into the country. You do some homework and find out. It is sooo easy to spout evil words, and so hard to eat them later. Be careful!

I am not so sure that just race is the problem. The problem started when The Gov''t moved into our homes and told our children that absolutely ANYTHING they dont like, when it comes to rules& dicipline, is abuse. If they are not getting what they want, when and how the want it, then just make some abuse up, and you can do what ever you want. With all the horrible spankings I endured, from any authority figure in my life, I cant fathom how ppl survived for thousands of yrs, with so little crime. Wont be long, that you wont be able to give your child a warning look of impending time out, or the parent will be tossed in jail. I am so glad my child rearing days are over. I cant even imagine what it will be like for my grand children to grow up in such an undiciplined world. And dont EVEN get me started on the Foster Care BIG BLACK HOLE, that sucks these children from such abuse as a time out.

It''s funny how the blacks want to blame Jews for all of their problems. Well, I suppose that is easier than looking in the mirror and doing some much-needed critical self-analysis.

Not sure why the FBI is "alarmed." It''s been going on for a long time. Was anyone not aware of this? Everyone is aware of it if they live in a big city like Los Angeles, Detroit, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, etc.

FeelFreee4U at 02:19 AM,

Mr. Totten,

I have already pointed out that you are of fighting age, you obviously hate and fear Muslims, (now blacks) and you are obviously sympathetic to the welfare/terror-State Of Israel, yet you are too craven to join the fight. Like a sniveling, bloodthirsty worm.

If you had any gonads, you would come right out and declare your hatred and fear of Muslims, instead of hiding behind me, and you would join the fight. But you don''t join, since, as a eunuch, you don''t have any gonads.

What a small, pathetic little simp you are.

Apathy and hate are the mains causes; racism is too easily dismissed by non-blacks so hate has to be part of the reason.

But I find it stranged that the FBI would be "alarmed" by this trend. The failure to arrest and convict career criminals and their enterprises, the spat of released prisoners into communities unprepared to absorb them and the lack of community control of any institution chartered to deal with it''s problems make for this soup called inner-city crime and the loop of failed generations.

If anyone would like to discuss the hatred and fear of blacks, Hispanics, Muslims, Arabs, etc., that my impersonator "FeelFreee4U" suffers from, his name is Michael Totten, and he can be reached at his Website:

Black boys, young and old, have control of these areas called neighborhoods. Whhenever parents try and take matters in their hands, the babysitter liberal social agencies intercepts the parental authority held by the rest of American society.

In NYC, historically, children were under the complete control of parents and social services didn''t have the long arm of legal agency over citizens. Then during the mid to late sixties and under the guise of "protection", black families were no longer allowed to issue corporal punishment, power was shifted for mothers and fathers to that of the child him/herself. We''re not talking about abuse, but stern discipline that every community exercised within their own sphere.

Also, every community has the natural right to protect themselves from within as well as from the outside, except black communities. Black boys involved in illegal activities may continue to kill without too much state intervention, but if the community itself were to do what the courts, police and public safety agencies fail to do, the full force of law will be brough upon them. When the ability to control one''s environment is in the hands of those from outside that community and all is lost to those left to their mercy.

I think we all know, when we really ask ourselves, that deep down, we''re all afraid of walking near strange black males. There is no singularly more terrifying sight. Why? Gee, I''m sure it has nothing to do with the fact that you''re statistically over 35 times more likely to be shot by a black man than a white man. And over 72 times more likely to be raped by a black man. And over 110 times more likely to be robbed by a black man. Amazing crime stats, and they%u2019re all available for all us to read and know.

Somewhere around 99% of black men who are shot to death are shot by other black men. Facts are facts. I won''t even bother to speculate on WHY, but the cops and FBI all know WHO is doing the crimes.

"The term Hajji was coopted by American service members as an all-encompassing term to describe Iraqis and Arabs in general. Its connotation in this context can be construed as being derogatory, but is not necessarily intended as such."

Sure it isn''t. You are quite the prolific liar.

ALSO, ARE THESE PEOPLE "EMOTIONALLY CONNECTING" WITH ANYONE BY THE TIME THEY ARE TWO YEARS OLD? IF NOT, THEY MAY NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO DEVELOP COMPASSION OR FEELINGS FOR OTHERS AS TEENS OR ADULTS.
